Dev update 3/17/2021

We have some technical information to share on our latest completed testing of the qt vs html5. The qt mem profile came back much better than the html5 electron wallet. The html5 electron is very mem hungry in comparison to our latest Qt wallet work. Staking and syncing with the QT wallet on laptops that are running with less than 8GB of memory should see a noticeable improvement. During the first QT delivery users will still have the option of sticking with the HTML5 as we continue to add all the  html5 features to the QT. During the process as always features are always available via the daemon. This is only for users who rely on the front end wallet. Once we clear this work here, we will move to smart contract testing (ethereum, ada, poka VM). We will be forking all the chains mentioned in order to conduct testing. This will then allow us to do testing within the core and their smart contract capabilities in comparison to what we will be looking to deploy. This will allow for us to decide language, features and optimal parameters for our SMC (Smart Contracts) Flavor in order to position ourselves to get into upgrading ioc VM/SMC and going to cham

IOC DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

October 8th 2020

IOC's Development Update

Due to the current push by governments to further break anon chains, it was imperative the team address these issues with our community. After carefully reviewing current stances, in order to afford our users complete private transactions with IOC, the team assessed that this would require a new chain implying a full reset back to a genesis block embedding mandatory privacy. For these reasons the Zero Knowledge protocol part of the upgrade is on hold. It is our duty to always advise best practices to protect the project and its users.
Recent action from governments against other privacy projects include:
- Monero - organizations being paid to crack and track balances See here
- Mimblewimble Not ready for Litecoin, currently in testnet slated for 2021 if miners adopt
- Travel Rule: establishment efforts to apply it to our sector & counter efforts to propose a ZK crypto-based solution instead.
- BitMEX - Implications of Money laundering, failure to KYC/AML and infringing OFAC guidelines

Unfortunately simply 'turning on' anon features even by encrypting balances, will not 'hide' the full transaction history (Monero comparison and what we're seeing today as mentioned above). The fix for this would be to create a completely new ledger for Nighthawk. Unfortunately this is complicated for users and requires a swap of 'Original IOC' to 'Nighthawk IOC'. The swap is not complicated for the team but it would require a decentralized exchange to do a full swap. This would be the right way to go full anon in order to ensure complete transaction anonymity. This solution can certainly be revisited depending how the regulatory environment continues and changes to cryptocurrency laws over the next months and years.

*If we were to still proceed under current conditions with Nighthawk, it would offer some privacy protections from the enabled block forward but without starting a new "sidechain" or "IOC Chain Reset" it would not be possible to offer full anonymity and prior Nighthawk transactions could be traced. Code work on Zero Knowledge is intact and we would not lose it. We can at any time go back to it again and if proper solutions are worked out in the future.*

This is our proposal for the community
Our proposal going forward for IOC would be to keep the original chain going and activate the current mostly ready upgrades of the Nighthawk protocol which would be:

- Stake halving
- Blockchain pruning tool for orphans
- Cold Sig (offline signatures)

These upgrades would be activated at a certain block in late November and wouldn't require a swap or complicated wallet updates.

As part of the proposal, with now proven POS security, we would follow this upgrade by enabling Smart Contracts on IOC. Smart Contracts would thrust IOC to move in parallel to current market conditions by allowing developers to deploy DeFi/Tokens while including NFTs to be leveraged in a wide spectrum of cases like gaming and Intellectual Property/Copyright. Fees for deploying smart contracts will be rerouted back to stakers. By enabling smart contracts, IOC would be primed to serve as a launching platform for the future Chameleon project alongside DIOEX, which would serve as a decentralized exchange swap "bridge" for both projects. We hope that this will clarify current conditions and we look forward to our community discussions.

These were laudable intentions by all standards and thanks for this update. If I may ask, has the planned upgrade gone live? Since it was slated for a certain block this in month.

Furthermore I'd like to suggest a more regular update to the community

Dev Update

We recently updated the Main Branch yesterday and have been updating our main branch when our additions pass local testing.  We only update code when we see fit to do so. This is how we have worked for years. We worked DIONS in the same way and we are doing the same with NightHawk.  At this time we have put our estimation of completion for December as we have added a new feature with private balances.

There have been updates to our website that are not currently live, all in preparation for NightHawk.

The team is also actively working on setting up options for Chameleon. Our plan is for Chameleon to follow Night Hawk but we must do so in an organized manner and that’s what we have been working on.

I wish we had a magic wand to speed up everything that we are working on but we don’t have those capabilities just yet. With that said as with DIONS we can’t wait for IOC to be upgrade with NightHawk. Please remember as with any other release when the time comes, will need everyone staking and helping us to ensure we have a successful upgrade. We have been in full communication with Bittrex and they are aware of our work.

I want to thank everyone that continues to follow our project.

Thank You all

Are there any updates regarding the DEV process? Deadline is coming really close already.. I guess another 7 months of waiting or is the date of the release still valid (until end of june)?

Unfortunately not i think. Since december it's only "we are actively working on the background". I checked Twitter and Bitcointalk but no real updates so far. Neither on Github besides some readme files that change.
You can imagine being so close to July they could have updated the community by now. Maybe we are in for a surprise. And if not, at least say: we postpone another 6 months. Hope not.
It's a hell of a task and security is key. Wouldn't mind postponing it for those reasons but comms are lacking here. I'll keep 'em staking till then for the full 1.5 IOC reward.

So I haven't seen any update yet, but maybe they shared on in Telegram https://t.me/iocoin_official . I'm not in there so not sure. I guess they would have shared it on other socials then as well.

iOC Development Update March 26, 2020

Today we would like to update the iOC community on the status of the iOC Nighthawk Protocol development progress.

Nighthawk Protocol Update

Development and testing of the Nighthawk Protocol core changes have continued on a private testnet following severe illnesses of some
dev team members during the first quarter 2020 (not related to Covid-19).

Initial developments covered the base framework integration for ring signature sending, in addition to the already existing stealth
(shade payment) sending that was already incorporated in our Aurora / Sirius upgrade.

Over the last couple of weeks we have made new advances. We are very excited to announce that in addition to ZK ring signatures, we
have also implemented a new SKEDH Technique allowing for amounts to be fully anonymous (for send and receive).

Work is now focussed on completing the Nighthawk Protocol core to enable fully anonymous transactions including amounts. Our aim is a
complete replacement of other anonymous currencies to become the goto currency for full anonymity.

We envision having the new core ready for internal tests over the next couple of weeks where we will move into an intensive testing phase.
Once the new Nighthawk Protocol core is satisfactorily tested, we will shift focus to the graphical user interface changes in the wallet.

An updated estimate for beta release (including UI updates) is now for July 2020.

Great that Bittrex has their own app. I don't think it's a wallet as you call it. It's a trading app.

A wallet app is a significant difference as most - like magnum wallet - you have control over your keys.

Either way good to trade easier.

Are you still planning to release Nighthawk on December 1st?

No they aren't. It seems there was only official communication in the Telegram channel and not in here nor twitter or other social channels.
It's postponed. See iocoin.io - timer is gone. More work needs to be done at the wallet so people can use it properly.

To be expected I guess, always hard estimating these things. Do they have an updated time frame for it?

update: yes they have an update. A delay of max 7! months. Instead of live at dec 1st they now aim for Q2 2020. So worst case could be end of Q2 (June 2020). Thats a lot of UI work. Maybe they are re-doing the full wallet.
That would be a big surprise and welcome. But there is no official comms about this delay (why it takes up to 7 months more). only a "estimate Q2 2020" on iocoin.io

Time is trivial in development. Testing always goes at the forefront. The UI we have is not HD and for this particular protocol lots has to be moved around. We are still testing the protocol itself and coding.
