Everyone wields different powers when it comes to business. Some say that cryptocurrency prices can be manipulated by wealthy individuals. Despite being decentralized, it seems that price movements can be controlled by specific entities.

So, in your opinion, can everything related to money in this world be manipulated? For instance, do you believe that the value of the USD or the largest stock market in the US can be manipulated by a few individuals?

What kind of people are capable of market manipulation?

What does "a few individuals" mean? I think that could go too far although what if the five major US banks collude on interest manipulation on behalf of their CEOs. I guess the CEOs have the power to enforce their hypothetical plans if they wanted to. Is that still an individual to you or is it an organization or more a "player" in the market.

When you look at the LIBOR scandal, you can get a good impression of what is possible on the global financial stages. Collusion at a level that nobody would imagine at first glance. But once you have looked into several scandals that happened in the past, you will realize that there is a pattern when centralization of power meets opportunity, it is almost guaranteed that the day will come when some will want to exploit that opportunity for their own benefit, regardless of illegality.

So I think yes is the answer, individuals can manipulate the market depending on what position they are in.
CEOs of major US banks conspiring? The idea is almost absurd. While a handful have power, it's foolish to presume they're puppet masters behind every scandal. For instance, the LIBOR scandal? That was a systemic issue, not just a few prominent people.

However valid, centralization of power doesn't inevitably mean widespread manipulation. Powerful people aren't necessarily evil. Decentralization, like Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, gives many optimism. Ironically, 'whales' cause large price movements in Bitcoin. So, what's your point exactly?

As you might have heard, they say money is power, so someone who has a lot of it has a lot of power and this power works almost everywhere and on everything, so financial sectors are no exception. When someone has a lot of money, they can buy a very large amount of anything they want to manipulate in the market, they then can play with the price by creating price walls of their choice for either buying or selling that particular item no matter what it is.

When it comes to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, imagine someone has acquired a million Bitcoins, and he has put 200k Bitcoins on sale at the price of $25,000. Now, the market will either need to wait for their coins to be sold completely or place their sell orders below that price, and that is how the price starts decreasing as people won't wait and will start selling lower.

It depends on which crypto asset you are talking about. Altcoins are not decentralized but bitcoin is. It is still decentralized so no one can manipulate the market. Let's say a whale owns 51% of the total Bitcoin supply. Then he can manipulate the market. But it is not possible for one person to own that much. Even if you add all the whales available in the Bitcoin market, they won't come together because different people have different agendas. So not quite possible for the moment. But no one knows what the future holds.

To some extent, yes! It can be manipulated if it is related to money. Market manipulation is done by individuals or organizations that hold the power and money to do so.

What kind of people are capable of market manipulation?

People with huge capital and people who have the power. Like billionaires and Governments. Governments control the value of money and could change it at any point. This is power. And people with huge capital could invest in something and then manipulate the market at their will. That's huge capital. Money gives you power and power gives you money. It's a cycle and those who are in it are capable of manipulating the market.

Small business or project is higher to be a target of market manipulation because it make a whale can buy everything to control the market. If we compare to Tesla or Bitcoin where the market cap is really high, it's not that easy for a whale to control the market when all of their money might be not enough to buy every stock/coin that every seller want to sell.

This is why, don't invest too big in small business or project.

Market manipulation is very common and this can be seen everywhere. Particularly this happens with billionaires who keep on manipulating to increase the networth. In my country we had a billionaire who was placed around the 300th place and now he had reached the top 5 position. Several allegations have come against him as the Prime Minister have favoured him and some shell companies have been operated to show fake investment over the company shares. These have made him grow, and the government have supported him. A research institute brought everything to the light and the opposition have requested investigation, but the ruling government always wants to save him and these kind of manipulation is happening in all sectors which eats people's money.

Yes, as long as they're wealthy and has the means to do it which they really can. But they won't just do it noticeably, if they're going to manipulate it, they won't make it look like it's manipulated.

What kind of people are capable of market manipulation?
The elites, billionaires or if there are really trillionaires, they can manipulate everything even people's emotion.

The big whales in the market be it in crypto or fiat, will always have the chance to manipulate the market and its market value. This is very common nowadays, not just in the business world, but even in our own government as there will always be manipulation from the higher positions above. Sad to say, those have become uncontrollable probably because wealthy people have always been making higher influence. However, when it comes to crypto, manipulation is observed less in decentralized market compared to centralized ones. That’s one advantage bitcoin has.

Essentially, if there is no manipulator in a particular market, that market becomes sluggish and boring. There are a lot of markets now - and it takes a strong movement in a particular market to draw attention to it. Yes, manipulators are evil, but they are often a necessary evil.
That's a fact, a market that becomes totally stagnant becomes boring for traders since there won't be enough opportunities for profit and when there are fewer profit windows and the profit percentage becomes very small, people would eventually abandon that market and start looking for alternative markets for their trades and investments. This also applies to the cryptocurrency market, it becomes way too boring when the market starts to become stable for a long time.

That's why, it's important to have manipulators because they keep the market volatile and exciting for traders since volatility creates more profit windows and the opportunities keep pouring in which makes it a great market for traders who are short-term traders and like getting small but many profits every day or week.

Basically, if the financial market is affected  by the people or artificially then we usually call it market manipulation. Legal action may also be taken against any person or organization associated with such activities. A separate agency has been created to regulate the US stock market whose responsibility it is to ensure punishment against various types of malpractices and unfair practices.

Market manipulation is nothing new. Every market can be affected by big whales to some extent but not completely. In the stock market, the share prices of various companies can be traded low and high, but it is not an easy task to do so. In this respect I think Bitcoin is completely different. Because it is decentralized not everyone can control it. However, some investors may have a temporary effect by keeping a large amount of Bitcoin under their control, in this case, if investors adopt a little awareness, there will be no major negative impact. Bitcoin price may drop for a while but it will recover again in a few days.

Who knows, in the world of digital currency, maybe there is one, maybe not, but it definitely exists, yes. For investors or anyone else, it's best not to be easily tempted by impressive price increases in the short term (daily), without being supported by clear corporate actions and solid fundamentals, of course because in the digital currency market, the models and types of people vary in terms of goals and ambitions. .

First of all, decentralization does not mean that market manipulation can't be invoked. It just means a centralized authority cannot manipulate the market. An a decentralized asset can be influenced by large amounts of capital. That being said, market manipulation tends to be a zero sum game. Someone's gains must be a result of another person's losses, so there's incentive by the wealthy not to manipulate the market. For example, someone holding a large amount of BTC could flood the market with cheap BTC and theoretically manipulate Bitcoin prices -- though that would obviously involve selling their coins at a discount. Obviously this is an oversimplification, but the principle holds true.

Individuals don't really manipulate markets because they don't hold the capital, organizations do as a collective. And the government is the organization which holds virtually unlimited capital. They don't engage in manipulation with malice -- it's normally to bolster the economic numbers above what they ought to be.

What kind of people are capable of market manipulation?
Everything in this globe can be manipulated. In trading, manipulation shouldn't be tagged to sinisterness or evil. It should be seen as a need to oil the wheel of progress. It's what makes the industry busy. It's not as if someone tries to take one thing from somewhere and place it where it doesn't belong. It's a game whales or huge investors play by either causing scarcity in the market by mopping up large quantities to create demand and FOMO or doing the reverse by selling off huge quantity and causing excess supply to panic retail traders with weak hands into FUD to dump more. These whales then go back to either dump (in the first case where they create demand) or buy up (in the second case where they cause excess supply). We see this scenario in cryptos, Indices, Forex Trading, Stocks, just to name but four. For me, I don't see anything wrong in it. It's business strategy.

What kind of people are capable of market manipulation?
Very common practice I am sure. It's not about the asset being centralized or decentralized. Infact assets that are centralized are more difficult to manipulate because you can easily come into radar. Decentralisation gives you the ability to remain untraced even after market manipulations. Ove I feel any market can be manipulated. It's more about the market makers, the exchanges and obviously the institutional investor which are primary participants in manipulating the market.

The centralized market can also be manipulate but one can be noticed with the right tools. Manipulation is everywhere whether in politics or monetary aspect. Crypto is not the only market that manipulation takes place, even in the forex and local market. This can not stop even though the government comes in. There are lots of people that have lots there assets because of manipulation that is why we need to understand what we are doing before we ever think of putting our money in such a thing.
Indeed, manipulation is not limited to the cryptocurrency market alone, it permeates all financial markets and various industries. Individuals who possess wealth and influence inevitably employ their resources and authority to acquire their desired objectives.

But for the cryptocurrency market, I think this is the most manipulated market. Many people think that it is decentralized and cannot be manipulated but that is naive because it is also being measured in terms of money. Therefore, people with a lot of money will freely manipulate the market. The cryptocurrency industry is small and without any regulation, so they are a favorite target of market manipulators.

Manipulation is of course everywhere. All you have to do is look at banks being fined for this activity to know it’s a common occurrence. I think this sort of market manipulation is probably present in every aspect of pricing in society. It’s what people do when it comes to money and especially in finance, is not surprising.
Market manipulation affects us more if we are trading but less affects us if we hold our bitcoins.

Price can have big changes on market in a day, a week or a month but after one year, Bitcoin has good price growth that can help us to gain profit. If we don't trade, you can avoid manipulation effects.

Yearly candles with 15 year candles, only has 3 red year candles.

The market manipulation effect is on the market so basically, whether we trade or hold, it affects the valuation of our holdings.  Since manipulation often affects the price in the market, the conversion value of our holdings will be affected dependent on how the manipulation is done.

What kind of people are capable of market manipulation?

I believe any powerful countries can manipulate the market anytime they want, since regulators can't prove if the market is being manipulated or not, that's why it can happen anytime, and anywhere around the globe.

For example, country A wants to manipulate the market for country B's economy will stop growing for a certain period of time because of inflation or deflation of their own currency or stocks. So, yes, market manipulation is very common everywhere. It's happening I believe in order for powerful people to gain control, profits, and power.
Smart people will always try to fool people who are stupider than them.
So as long as people are unable to realize the manipulation that other people are playing on them, that is how long their manipulation will continue to persist.
And the same goes for what some developed countries or companies do, they will always try to manipulate and interfere with countries or companies at a lower level than them. With the aim of getting the maximum profit.
And this is where transparency is needed when collaborating so that both parties can see the true facts so that no party feels disadvantaged.

As for the dollar, i don't really know in detail whether its value can be manipulated, but from the news i have heard and read so far, the dollar is used for international trade, so its value cannot be detected, whether it is manipulated or not, apart from that, it is one of the active US institutions. like the SEC, is quite active in monitoring things that happen in the US including the stock market.

in the crypto market, manipulation quite often occurs through FOMO and FUD, market speculators try to influence the level of market demand with the news they spread, so before deciding something, you must first understand what you are doing and find out in more detail because of the information you receive can lead you to do anything.

As long as this method is still effective for getting the maximum profit and can provide other benefits. I am sure that every country will try to manipulate the market, even though this method is a dirty method because it is part of fraud and is just a bad idea. However, all parties will try it.

However, I also believe that with existing technological advances, almost everyone can enjoy it. And also information can circulate and be conveyed as quickly as possible. This can encourage progress in thinking for everyone, so sooner or later the acts of manipulation carried out by several parties will be exposed.
