For your survival here, you need knowledge about most of the discussion that fly in the forum. Don't forget you are in a Bitcoin forum. If you are not very knowledgeable about Bitcoin, crypto, investment, programing, economics, mining, etc., then you should live an open mind and ready to learn from others. On the forum, we share knowledge, ideas and learn from one another on issues that relates to Bitcoin and the above list. You will earn merit if you contribute a very relevant comments on any topic on this forum or if you create a very relevant topic.

First merit doesn't secure your account, the forum is a free conversational ground for everyone but due to spamming (posts that do not make sense) the merit system was introduced to stop people from posting anyhow, for you to earn merit you have to make good post.

You might not understand what we very body here will be saying as you are new here, so you should go and read the following threads, and try to understand them before you keep posting.

If you succeed in reading the three above you will eventually enjoy your stay in the forum and the merit your friend told you about will not longer be your problem.

Without merits you can post and involved in deep conversation with other member here in fact you are free to do whatever thing you wish to do but you won't increase in rank that is the only disadvantage with the merits of a thing, so alternatively for you to increase rank you need the merits to move from level 1 another level respectively that is to say you must need the merits for rank changing and that comes with creating high quality post or being so helpful to the community.

No merit is not necessarily for you to secure your account, keeping your password save and not breaking the forum rules is what is necessary to protect or secure your account from either been banned or hacked.

It is not a must to have merit, merit is just one of those criteria’s needed to grow your account to different ranks, but account ranks also isn’t so important if you aren’t after it you can simply just learn a two or thing that brought you here and leave it. But if you need to engage in contests or signature campaigns you need rank.

To grow in rank you just need to either create good and educative threads, or reply posts with knowledgeable answers
