It depends on how you do it, you need to do everything with your head and study it. What they want to block, of course, is not correct.
Thats like saying is bun necessary for making a burger. What do you think the project value is going to be without a product? Zero. Product is like the most important thing a project needs to succeed.
Some investors are getting picky these days and they want at least an alpha or beta of the working product of the ICO. Because ideas are just ideas and they could just lead to a huge disappointment which happened in a lot of projects in the past.
Of course it’s important. Every investor wants to know that project will be successful and he will earn profits from this project. How potential investor will be sure in that if project doesn’t have any product and it’s just a fiction

I think it's very important when company has ready product. It gives good perspective for tokens. But if you decide to invest you should explore ICO project.
When I choose an Ico I invest only if there is a beta product or, alternatively, I trust enough the team on deliver it

Yes it is very important because if you don't have any product i dont think the project will be sucessful. It is like an making a thesis and propose the product you want to do.
