For me, a product is very important in a project. Not only a product but a working product that really served its purpose 100%. With that, ICO will likely to succeed because it will draw attention of investors to invest and users to utilize the working product.
Of course product is very important in an ICO. How do you present your project without a product? Even services still has product and services itself is also a product. Investors are looking at what kind of product and if they benefit from your product.

Of course a working product or atleast MVP(Minimum Viable Product) is required for the investors in order to make them believe that the team is really working on the project and not just trying to rip off the investors like most of the ICOs out there.
It is one of the more important factors to convince prospective investors to join the ICO exercises. A working solution or product indicate that their ideas are viable and workable. It is like telling the world what is needed now is more capital to help develop the product further and fine tune them for the market. Such indications definitely instil confidence in the investors.
Product is an important component of a platform or project. There are so many product benefits for a platform one of which is the application of a platform brand to a product but the product generally serves to create a good perception in the community. If the product they sell has good quality then good also the view or the public's perception of the platform.

A good project would be a project with product created. opposite. If the project does not have the product. That project is definitely a scam
If don't no the product you can't create the project. So product is important for the project. So product is important for choose the best project. you learn the project the information. Then you know the best project. Choose the best project then get more information. This information help to improve you knowledge and invest for the future business process. a working product is part that will attract more investor interested to invest in ICO project, so that really is something important for the succesfull of ICO, since trust of a custumers is important. you don't want to invest for something that you don't know it will exist or not in the future right?
many ICO project doesn't have MVP and in many case they don't even have a working product and only with idea on their whitepaper and roadmap.

so many projects that have a different theme from one project to another project, if indeed want to find a good project is we must see the purpose, core and intent of development project that we will follow.

Product is not that important as 99 times out of 100 people do not do proper research. They mostly follow hypes: see "what coin to buy" questions on this forum.
Not sure where your answer is coming from but, if those 99 people will do proper research, where are they going to base their decision to buy the token? The people behind it? The white paper that doesn't say anything about a product? Even if you have the greatest minds behind a project but there is no product what are they going to tell the people to buy the token if they have no product. Even if they don't have the product but they have the idea on their project, you can consider that as a product. Just my opinion. 
It is very important in the current space we are, the level of scam projects are on the rise and to see if the team has the capacity to deliver on what they promised, even you can see most of the recent ICOs are showing a prototype for the platfrom, the quality of the team is Okay but knowing they can deliver on this is more important

An ICO must be developed from the earliest conditions, I think it is very difficult to get an ICO that has good prospects. A product offered on ICO is very important because it can make a person's perspective change, if the offered product is attractive and the presented whitepaper has clarity so everyone will not hesitate to invest in an ICO project. but let's see if the project does not offer anything interesting in their product then certainly they lose a lot of investors and the loss will be the end result.
