What do I see: more hawkish rhetoric from NATO (read: US and Rasmussen):

NATO chief eyes more bases in E. Europe to confront Russia
http://rt.com/news/183064-nato-rasmussen-europe-russia/

Quote
Under the pretext of an 'overt' Russian threat, NATO is pushing for a ‘readiness action plan’ that will bring the Cold War military bloc closer to Russian borders than ever - even despite objections from some NATO members.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the 28-nation military bloc, which meets next week in Cardiff, Wales, would attempt to overcome internal opposition and agree to the deployment of military bases near the Russian border.

...

"We have something already called the NATO response force, whose purpose is to be able to be deployed rapidly if needed,” Rasmussen said in an interview with several European newspapers. “Now it's our intention to develop what I would call a spearhead within that response force at very, very, high readiness. In order to be able to provide such rapid reinforcements you also need some reception facilities in host nations. So it will involve the pre-positioning of supplies, of equipment, preparation of infrastructure, bases, headquarters.”

...

Remarkably, Rasmussen asserted that Russia “does not consider NATO a partner,” when it was NATO that flat-out refused Russian participation in the controversial US missile defense system, also planned for Eastern Europe. Such cooperation, had it been given the green light, would have sealed the so-called reset between the two Cold War-era foes, bringing to end years of mutual suspicion and antagonism. Instead, the US and NATO opted to keep Russia on the sidelines, ensuring nothing less than another full-blown arms race.

Norway already got several ship-loads of American weapons and tanks to be deployed near Russian border, ready to attack.

Tired of your bullshit. Humanitarian convoy was inspected by Ukrainian officials and western media. Your web of lies and propaganda start to get obvious. Change tactics or your employer will be displeased.

neither ukraine not red cross mentioned they have inspected the convoy. both have mentioned they only saw 262 trucks while russia claims 280 crossed the border. don't you think everything would be much easier if russia just gave this convoy to red cross and be done with it? but no, they had to smell fishy with it for couple weeks before letting anyone near any of the trucks. i'm amazed at how biased you are Smiley (no, i'm actually not amazed, normal russian bias)

The only reason I reply to you is that I am not completely sure that you not just brain-washed by Ukrainian oligarch-owned MSM. I am not biased, living in the West, I am objective and to the point - I know the attitude here.

So, Russia was asking the Ukrainian side to inspect the load for days now, without Ukrainian officials bothering to show up, and all the while the human situation in Lugansk deteriorates.

It is only so long that perishable goods in those trucks can be stewed by the Ukrainian officials at the border. Here is to hoping that the convoy reaches its destination and helps people and that freedom fighters will be able to provide enough protection from marauding Ukrainian units. The real heroes now are the truck drivers, risking their lives to save lives.

Think. If Russia wanted to invade Ukraine, it would have done so long ago, swiftly, and definitely not using any idiotic scheme like a humanitarian convoy as a cover. Russia is probably the only country interested in peace in Ukraine, which as some put it, is Russia's soft underbelly. Judging by the persistent actions of the Ukrainian government, even they don't want peace in Ukraine, but do as Washington tells them.

Currently, apart from the East-Ukrainians, the only other party suffering from this war is Russia. Do you think money for the almost 1 million refugees just pop out of thin air?

Re-posting this on Lugansk thread as it's more appropriate.

Prediction: Is Kiev-Style Maidan Possible in St. Petersburg?
http://futuristrendcast.wordpress.com/2014/08/19/prediction-will-there-be-a-maidan-in-st-petersburg/

Background: Evgeny Fedorov is the leader of the NOD – People’s Liberation Movement of Russia. He had lived through the wholesale looting of the country in the 1990s. What’s important, he was a Russian Duma Deputy even back than. Here is the way he describes what was happening at the time in Russia. There was an AMERICAN supervisor (commissar, using Russian terminology) who was assigned to every politician, head of every organization, every company, etc. ALL decisions on all levels had to be CLEARED with the American commissar assigned to them. In short, in the ’90s Russia was a fully occupied country, with no voice and no ability to move a muscle without clearing it with a Western supervisor. Russia in the ’90s was what Ukraine is today.

I’ll be honest with you, dear readers. Having written the above phrase, I had sudden chills going through my body, as if putting it in writing made it especially real and scary.

Fedorov takes the view I generally take – Ukraine was just the prelude and training grounds for creating the mayhem of the century in Russia. The big prize is Russia and her destruction. I have warned many times that this is the big goal and the mega-prize for the US, the West, or, if you will, NWO.

"Invasions can take many forms." one of which is "humanitarian convoy". right?

Crimea is historic Slavic land. I don't want to comment whether it is Russian or Ukrainian, but right now Russians are the majority there.

A large part of the Russians (+ Ukrainians, Belorussians.etc) living in the Baltics are recent migrants. Baltics is not a part of the Slavic homeland. But still it is wrong that they are not allowed to use their native language.

I don't hate the Western world. I hate only the NATO war machine. What I don't want is Ukraine being accepted in to the NATO as a full member and American nuclear ICBMs being placed in the Russian-Ukrainian border.

"I hate only the NATO war machine" well you have the right to hate whomever you want even if it's completely unreasonable. question is why your hatred excuses russia bullshit moves? it's not NATO that has invaded ukraine and annexes part of it's territory. it's not NATO soldiers killing people on ukraine/russia border. unreasonable fear of nuclear ICBMs seems a very shady argument here.

You know what's even more amusing.
All , those freedom and peace loving pro-russians who all the day claim that the nato shield is useless and their iskanders can reduce europe to ash in seconds Smiley))

Nato shield is useless. It can't possibly block all incoming missiles coming from Russia.

it is ironic that you fail to see the irony in my message and it is very telling that you fail to see the hypocrisy of russians claiming crimea "historically russian land"

Crimea is historic Slavic land. I don't want to comment whether it is Russian or Ukrainian, but right now Russians are the majority there.

are you willing to allow russia do that on every piece of land where russians are local majority? grab piece of estonia lithuania and latvia? and what about "protecting russians" in finland? finland doesn't have russian as official language so that for sure is an oppression! MOVE IN THE ARMY PUTIN!

A large part of the Russians (+ Ukrainians, Belorussians.etc) living in the Baltics are recent migrants. Baltics is not a part of the Slavic homeland. But still it is wrong that they are not allowed to use their native language.

seems like your hatred of western world makes you excuse every bullshit move russia makes - do you think that is reasonable?

the whole point is that ussr collapsed and crimea is with ukraine and russia has accepted and recognized that fact by signing a contract about black sea fleet and signing budapest memorandum. and now suddenly russia invades with it's army and proclaims it "historically russian territory".

what was his name again?

Doesn't matter. At that time, all the Eastern Slavic tribes were speaking different dialects of the same language. The Russian-Belorussian-Ukrainian division occurred many centuries later.

Avoiding my question because you have felt in a trap with your thousands years of history knowledge.

What, you want to claim that Prince Sviatoslav I of Kiev was Ukrainian? No. He was not. The term Ukrainian didn't existed back then. The people were known as either Eastern Slavs or Cossacks. The Kingdom was known as Rus.

European armies are not in shape for a war of that magnitude and if you read about recent acquisitions of weapons and vehicles it was most likely just to move some money around. At least for what concerns Italy they were "scammed" and ripped off with inefficient fighters and weapons, but in that case too it was probably just because they wanted to make their games to take some tax money. US intervention should be massive for something like that to happen and though they have means and funds to do so (since as always it's the only sector that receives good tax money), I don't see it happening considering they have very little to gain off such an effort.
I'm going to give a different view on the topic. Economy is changing and in a near future it will most likely move away from what triggered recent wars. Just think what progress technology has made in the past decade and traslate that in the next 10 years. We always talk about decentralization in btc but everyone should consider how decentralized the world has become in terms of accessibility to what even a couple of years ago just few people could have. Food and energy won't be a problem in some years (hell, they aren't a problem today considering how much food we waste). Imho information and data will be, so next conflicts, if we can call them so and if there really will be some, won't be fought on the ground, but mainly on cyberspace and probably in the near solar system as firsts enterprises are looking to begin asteroid mining in 2020-2024. You shouldn't be really concerned for an invasion or big wars nowadays.

And last point - if you're into history crimea originally wasn't even russia - why not returning it to turkey or even reestablishing independent country of Crimean Khanate? so you're not only wrong but also hypocritical.

The Crimean Khanate came in to existence only during the 15th Century AD. Slavs were inhabiting that land for at least a thousand years before that. The Turks (now called Tatars) came to Crimea, defeated the small chiefdoms and then enslaved the local population. Crimea was one of the major slave trading centers of the world from 15th to 18th century AD. Slavs were sold to regions as far as Morocco and Yemen. The Khanate was destroyed in 1783, after Şahin Giray was defeated by Alexander Suvorov.

Quote
In the mid-10th century, the eastern area of Crimea was conquered by Prince Sviatoslav I of Kiev and became part of the Kievan Rus' principality of Tmutarakan. In 988, Prince Vladimir I of Kiev also captured the Byzantine town of Chersonesos (presently part of Sevastopol) where he later converted to Christianity.

The enslaved natives suffered demeaning and horrible treatment by the Muslims. From 1474 to 1694, more than a million natives of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth were sold as slaves in Crimea. If you include the Russians and others as well, then a total of 3,000,000 Slavs were sold as slaves in Crimea until 1769.

Quote
It seems that the position and everyday conditions of a slave depended largely on his/her owner. Some slaves indeed could spend the rest of their days doing exhausting labor: as the Crimean vizir (minister) Sefer Gazi Aga mentions in one of his letters, the slaves were often “a plough and a scythe” of their owners. Most terrible, perhaps, was the fate of those who became galley-slaves, whose sufferings were poeticized in many Ukrainian dumas (songs). ... Both female and male slaves were often used for sexual purposes.

It is ironic that the Ukrainians are siding with the same people who almost wiped them out a few centuries back.  Grin

I think I have enough of you. Russian weapons? Really? The whole of Ukraine and half of the former Soviet satellites use Russian/Soviet weapons. USA told Poland to ship their Soviet-time weapons to Ukraine and buy replacement NATO weapons instead. Russian artillery support?

On the video the scale of the Google-Earth angled image and the elevation of the virtual eye, and the small stretch of a water do not match. Could be anywhere in the region. Besides, the border is not exactly enforced. The freedom fighters could move their positions across the border to get a better vantage point and then drive to a new location. Now, what about Ukrainian armed groups (note that I am not saying that it was the Ukrainian army) artillery shelling the Russian cities?

"whole of Ukraine and half of the former Soviet satellites use Russian/Soviet weapons" except numerous weapons are found that are either too modern iterations that only russian army has or even with markings of russian military bases.

"small stretch of a water do not match" i wonder if you've even tried to see and analyze the video. i'll give it another shot though - here's a compelling analysis with google locations, streetmaps and illustrations http://ukraineatwar.blogspot.de/2014/07/russian-grad-firing-from-russian-soil.html

i know it's must be a shocker for you to admit that russia has fired GRADs into ukraine but it did happen. just analyze the evidence, one step at a time.
