You're also forgetting Russia doesn't have its' buffer zone.  It wasn't the Russian winter which burdened Napoleon or Hitler, most of it it was largely the Belorussian and Ukrainian winter and their winters are mild compared to what you'ld encounter in the American Midwest.

Belorussian and Ukrainian winters in the summer and autumn of 1941?! Did I miss something? Wink

That being said even most Americans can't withstand the American midwest winter, the American troops were posted on exercise to the Baltic in spring and were complaining about the 8 Celsius cold and soldiers were getting sick from cold sickness due to improper gear (the American military predominately recruits from the South, Texas and California which is mediterranean or semi-tropical).

Russia would also be disproportionately hurt by any tit-for-tat move from the European Union to close its own airspace to Aeroflot and peers, said Oliver Sleath, a Barclays Plc analyst in London.
“This is extremely unlikely to happen because the response would be more crippling to the Russian economy,” Sleath said. Russian flights cross EU airspace outnumber European carriers’ trips over Siberia, he said.

So it will end up as usual with Russian troops in Paris and Berlin! Smiley

Russian troops in Paris as usual? Please let me know the last time this happened..

In 1813. Do you think that it has been long time since? Wink

In 1813 like in 1945 it wasn't Russia against the rest of Europe and the US.
In 1813 it was allied with prussia england and austria
in 1945 it was allied with the uk , france and us.

All of it's former allies are now on the opposite side.

Yes, friends come and go, but enemies accumulate! Cheesy

Btw , why isn't there any article on rt about this one?

President Vladimir Putin has decided to introduce a sales tax on Russian consumers, two sources acquainted with the issue said on Thursday, raising the tax burden earlier than expected as Western sanctions deepen the country's financial woes.

Quote
According to Uralsib Capital, the sanctions together with the sales tax and tight monetary policy may reduce economic growth by up to one percentage point over the next two years, while adding up to two percentage points to consumer inflation in 2015. This year the economy is on track to post 0.4% growth according to central bank forecasts, compared with an average growth expectation of around 6% previously.

It is a regional tax "allowing each administrative district to decide on a sales tax of up to 3 percent to make up for [regional] budget shortfalls"... Cool

Quote
"The VAT will not be touched. Sales tax will be up to three percent depending on the decision of the region. Everything will go to the budget of the region," said one of the sources acquainted with the issue.

I know what the tax is about  as i always read the articles before posting or quoting them.
The fact is that the economic growth took a nose dive and that a new tax is needed to cover for budget deficit.

Yet , no Russia today article on this move. Why/ Simple , because it's creating a bad image.

The same propaganda war on each side:

British Airways, Air France and Lufthansa are the biggest EU airlines. Lufthansa said it could potentially lose more than €1 billion in three months if it does not use trans-Siberian routes, according to Forbes. The three air carriers told RT they weren’t commenting on a possible block on European flights as they don’t have any information.

Russia’s possible curbs on European carriers crossing Siberian airspace in response to Ukraine-related sanctions would have a limited impact on travel, even as news of the threat weighed on airline stocks.
Service from Europe to Japan and South Korea could be most affected, an analysis of routings on the Flightradar24 website shows. At the same time, relatively few carriers cross eastern Russia, in contrast with more crowded skies closer to Moscow.

Moving there one step closer at a time. This one seems to be a move from Washington to justify the upcoming nuclear first-strike.

Ever wonder why your (Russian) quotes are 95% from RT (Russia Today) channel? You guys have no other or is it the new Pravda?
That one is what? The new attempt from a long side-lined Russia to try to make their citizens afraid with the "Evil America"?

For no other reason, than RT being the most accessible for the English-speakers. I often give references to Russian sources with short summaries in English, but then people start complaining that it's in Russian.

Other sources in English are:

http://en.ria.ru/

By the way:
Ukraine shells Russia once again, but that's for another thread.

‘Lies, hypocrisy, propaganda’: Russia slams US over claims of nuclear treaty violations
http://rt.com/news/177464-russia-nuclear-treaty-us-claims/

Quote
Moscow has upped the ante in its growing confrontation with Washington after releasing an incendiary statement, accusing the US of spinning and distorting facts to allege that Russia is testing a new cruise missile, banned by a landmark Cold War treaty.

“Once again the US is trying (and again rather clumsily) to act as a mentor, for some reason pretending to possesses the truth in the last instance and have the right to judge others. Claims are made with little to know evidence and based on warped logic, in other words presented not with further experts’ analyses in mind,” opens the lengthy tirade by the Russian Foreign Ministry, in response to the allegations detailed in the State Department report released on Tuesday.

“The purpose seems to be to create a wall of information noise to incite other countries, and to boil up a propagandist brew for the media. Or does the US administration still sincerely deceive itself that the world can take Washington’s word?”

...

But the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia repeatedly raised concerns with US short range missiles for target practice, drones and the MK 41 Vertical Launching Systems which the US is planning to deploy in Poland and Romania.

It seems that the current unsubstantiated accusations against Russia are just a “tendentious and provocative’” attempt to create a smokescreen and draw attention away from the Pentagon’s own transgressions, Russia says, going beyond identifying a single specific area of disagreement.
