It's way easier to talk about leaving or stopping gambling if you're addicted than actually doing it; seeking professional help is often a very good option if you know you're addicted to gambling but can't quit it or if you know someone who's suffering from a serious gambling addiction that agrees with seeking help. Some people also unfortunately shun help, which can be tough, but as long as you're doing all you can, it's not really your fault.

Yes you are free to leave gambling world if you feel that it is destroying you especially your family, once if this gambling really affects your family then this would be the time you really need to stop gambling because gambling may give you a lot of problems especially if this gambling is one of the reasons why you are having a hard time with your family. Stop if you feel that gambling is not for you or else you will just suffer a huge lose on it.
the problem is HOW can we leave gambling if we are completely hooked on this?because for those who are just betting to have some fun there is no issue at all since they can just stop whenever they want and they can play whenever they feel.
maybe just like what the other comments said,i think it is much better to talk about how to prevent from becoming addicted and so we won't get into this same point of needed to leave gambling because it is destroying you.

Unfortunately I don't think it's so easy to do. You gamble because you hope to get rich and it's very hard to convince yourself to give up the dream of your life, it's like giving up the aim of your life.

There are only two outcomes, it can destroy your life or it can improve your life. You are the one who have control over yourself and you are the only one who have expectation on what kind of outcome you want. It can destroy your life if you do not gamble carefully where gambling have control over you, most of the people got addicted to it and that is why their lives became miserable. In other hand, there are some people who improve the quality of their life because they have good gambling psychology and good risk and management.

That's why I don't want to be a gambler someday if I get rich, it's just a waste of time and money.  Sad

You don't need to if you are already rich,.. every gambler has different mentality, a poor gambler wants to get rich in gambling so most likely they will lose more or a victim of gambling addiction while most of the rich people are just playing for fun, they don't aim to win big money, they are just willing to spend their extra money but with discipline.

Well, the topic should be "how to stop gambling" since people can't leave easily in gambling due to addiction. The reason why some people keep playing and betting are due to addiction to gambling. They thought gambling is the solution to their financial problems. Probably, when they get amused on playing gambling, they will not give a single thought on the other things like family needs. That's also a sign of gambling addiction, therefore we should talk about more stuff on how to stop or quit gambling 'cause it's not easy as you think.

I agree and I think that determination is key in anything you want to achieve.Even in such a difficult case when someone addicted to gambling want to quit the main factor for me is determination. The problem though is very few people have it and many lack it.If you want something really bad you will get it eventually while doing all the required work for it.

Like what I have said before, removing addiction is not an overnight process where you just magically wish it away. It requires time, effort, and determination both to yourself and to the people around you that are willing to support/help.

Not just in gambling but addiction in general can be potentially dangerous especially if you lose the discipline and self-control to limit your actions. Determination and motivation are indeed the key but these are the first steps that you must undertake before you continue the process. Without these factors, an individual might be having a hard time deviation from his addiction, which might further damage his relationships around him.

The first thing gambling addicts must do is admit that they have a problem. If they can’t do that then they’re never going to be able to overcome their addiction.~~
It is true. But in fact, most gamblers don't admit if they have been already addicted to gambling. They think it is just like to become their habit and no problem with that thing. In this case, I think their families need to make them be aware of the addiction. The addicted gamblers cannot solve the problem themselves, they need help from their closest people.

-snip-

Shift your mindset to a healthy one and that should be sufficient. There is no reason to be quitting if your mindset is correct and you correctly identify gambling as entertainment, not a way to make money.

the best thing i 've ever read since tonight, shift your mindset ...normally people who gambling doesn't aware their mind been set up by house since greed matters come, anyone will get ruined. But that can be prevented when u can stay focus and shift your mind to healthy and take just sufficient things.

I always think that when people say that gambling is bad or that you need to quit gambling, they are taking it to the extremes.

Gambling is supposed to be a fun entertaining activity. It's not designed to give off long term profits, because of the innate -EV that it carries that will benefit the house in the long run. Thus, it is unhealthy to believe that you'll be able to make money off gambling.

Shift your mindset to a healthy one and that should be sufficient. There is no reason to be quitting if your mindset is correct and you correctly identify gambling as entertainment, not a way to make money.

There are things you need to remember to stop gambling, not based on money, money is just greed: again, again and again.

To stop gambling there are some addicts to do.
1. Intention:
2. Individual mindset:
3. Family:
4. Hobbies:
5. Debt:
6. Positive:

This is easier been said than done.
[.. snip ..]

That bolded statement. To be honest, I was once an addicted gambler, and the only reason that I quit is because I lost my job, my sideline and the worst, almost lost my family as well. So obviously, I don't have the money anymore, and the supposedly "gambling friends" that I have, made a U-turn.

So that's a wake up call to me, and once I recovered, I learn to prioritised things. I still gamble, but I just have some fund and only play money that I can afford to lose. I don't want to go to that horrifying experience, it was really an eye opener for me and thank God I was able to get back on my feet and stay away from gambling that almost ruin everything for me.

you mentioned debts on the reasoning to stop gambling . i feel that debts is related to money   but you said money is excluded on the reasoning to stop gambling   .

It really but it will only happen if you are already addicted to gambling because if you know moderate gambling, you will only limit the money you will spend in gambling. If you're a wise man, you'll not let your money to be wasted and have so much debt. Self-discipline is needed to attain to stop the urge od becoming addicted to gambling. If you're having a hard time to avoid it, try to practice not to gambling or minimize your time that you spend in gambling. Gambling should become a stress reliever and not a source of stress.

now , i am still gambling and i know to my self that it wont destroy me but infact it helps me to get some extra income  because im  more wiser now  .

Help you get some extra income? Although a wise and intelligent man isn't guaranteed to win always in gambling. Gambling is about luck and a some sort of strategies, but that strategies is not certain to help you win in gambling. So don't tell me that you will not stop gambling just because of you get extra income. Our luck is just temporary and it can occur occasionally in our life.

It is very very difficult for a addicted gambler to just woke up one day and quit. It should be a process, however, how can they quit if they don't recognised the problem in the beginning? We can put lot of advises here, but if the body is not able to overcome or at least admit to themselves that they are addicted it will be hard.

Gamblers are gamblers either newbies, experienced, veterans, professionals. We can't just say to ourselves that we should stop. The more we lose, it creates thinking that we need to win. And the more we win, the more we want to continue. That's the start of a never-ending process of gambling interest.

And did you know that let's say a gambler decides to stop, once they are put again on the situation wherein they need quick and urgent money, maybe due to an emergency, gambling will be one of their options. And there are lots of examples. No matter how disciplined a person is, there are really times that they will encounter the call of doing gambling.

Honestly, to say that gambling destroys everybody isn't exactly the true.

That's like saying don't drink water, because several people have died from water intoxication.

In reality, there are acceptable limits to everything. So long as you stay within those limits, you'll be fine. Gambling is one of those. If you actually stick to the script, and gamble only in moderation with what you can afford to lose, it's no worse than spending your money at the store or buying something you'll never use.

I do agree that it can cause problems, but so can everything that's taken to an addictive level.

Honestly, let them be like that and just don't mind them.
I do agree because there are people who have lost a lot in gambling and they just feel like they should suggest others to not repeat the same, this I believe is the reason for so many stop gambling threads.

The pointers, suggestions, advice that everyone creates here to "stop gambling" is useless to them. Gamblers will not stop until they didn't experience their "worst" losing experience in their gambling journey. Much better to advise them on how to deal with gambling and give them tips, instead of stopping them. They are the only ones who can decide when to stop.
But then there are people who are new to gambling and if they somehow read 1 of these "stop gambling" thread at least they would be more conscious about gambling and more controlled. I often talk to my gambler friends and they tell me that if at starting you know how dangerous a simple gambling habit can be, you will be much more controlled and easier to get out of it.

I already lost several times by doing gambling but still here putting up bets. Of course, there are also winnings on the way. Self-disciplined is the key.
Same here too and I never felt like I am loosing too much.

There are people who cannot feel that gambling destroys them,
We need someone to tell us that we should stop gambling anymore if we lose our money.

It's all go out on how responsible are you when gambling if you have a strong character before you to gambling, you can stop yourself from falling hard on it, a strong character has a strong will, and he knows his priority in life a responsible person knows where to put gambling in his life.
It's easy to say and explain as you did but much harder once you are into a losing loop. Basically a loosing loop is where you loose money, try to recover it and loose again and this repeats itself until you either actually recover your loss (hardly 1% people manage it) or you just loose too much money and even realizing that is not enough in the end because there is no way back.

I think the only way gamblers would stop gambling is when they spend some time with themselves, realize what they are doing and if what they are loosing is too much - STOP and if it's not then continue gambling. In short a small self-checkup is important and key.

That is basically chasing losses and it's not a good idea to continue anymore because you will continue to lose more. I think that is something that most addicted gamblers can't control haven't been mastered already. It's better to leave gambling as soon as you can than to suffer more if a gambler can't think any other way to make some money or recover their losses.

Happiness is always a choice, if they aren't happy with what they are doing—then leave before it destroys you.

There are addiction centers all around the world that helps these kinds of people, even though I am certain that OP wanted to be helpful and wanted to advice people to have a better life which on itself is an honorable effort, I would still say seeking a professional help is above all most important thing you can do as an addict.

If you seek professional help and can afford to get it, you will be capable of fighting with the demons inside you that hurts you and people around you. Education is also a quite important part of addiction, the very well educated people (not smart, nor wise, just educated) knows the potentials of what addiction could do which is why addiction is lesser in the well educated parts of the world compared to uneducated and ignorant parts of it.
I tend to disagree because most of the guys who fell in gambling addiction are under aged and their parents can only guide them to such centers and professional help but the problem is that their parents would never know their son (well, daughters don't gamble, do they?) is involved in such kind of activities. Threads like these don't help I agree but if every time such threads are opened and even 1 person is able to quit gambling, I believe the thread is worth it!

Even guys like Mayweather (the famous boxer) gambles, so I believe gambling and education have little connection.
