My suggestion is BTC, ETH. Why? Both of them is the coin with a good potential, we know BTC is number 1 in Coinmarketcap and ETH almost number 2 in Coinmarketcap. People know crypto from BTC I think, and a lot of token use ETH for their platform. Thats my reason. And the other altcoins maybe you can also invest on ETC, LTC, Waves, XRP, NEM, NEO maybe STR.
Any ideas what to buy now and keep for longer?
If you want long term holding then i would suggest to go for the coins which are in the top 20 and the price is below a dollar because my thinking is that these coins appreciate later in time just don't know when. If you buy less than a dollar and in 3 year it will priced at 5 dollars so there is profit.My first suggestion is to choose bitcoin for long-term investments. everyone knows its potential. then Ethereum and three ripple.

My third one is STRAT. Great platform coin. From big exchanges, you can buy STRAT now because STRAT is just warming up.
Coins can go 10% lover but once downtrend is over it will go at least 50-60% up. This is my idea of course...

I you want to be on the safe side I'd suggest ETH & NEO for 2018.
However, don't be fooled my the price on coinmarketcap alone, as a guy above me stated. You always want take the maximum supply into consideration. Some coins simply cannot reach a price BTC managed to reach because there are too many coins in circulation.

For long term investments, Bitcoin comes on the top of everything. Please do not forget that. I know there are so many people here who have invested much on altcoins but they cannot just deny that Bitcoin is the safest and the fastest rising in the long run. That is why we cannot just set Bitcoin aside. For altcoins, the good investments include Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, Waves, Strat, Monero, IOTA, Cardano, Ethereum Classic, and some more. Actually, there are so many coins on the top 50 that will definitely grow even higher.

I like to invest briefly on ico projects, new ICO projects have brought me a lot of profit but it also took away my lot of money because I have invested in scam ICO projects. This is bad . But I still prefer short term investments in ICO projects.
You will get the most reliable QTUM, ETH and NEO for a long time.
AppCoins is a long term HODL for me.

IOTA is a long term invest in my eyes. But there are also other that could perfom good in the long time: OPUS and EBTC
In my opinion, XRP, TIO and PKT are suitable for long term investment. let's research and you will know that why I choose these coins.
What the TIO? Which scam some bounty hunters with their second part of rewards? Or another TIO that is tradetoken? Now so much similar coins

personally I prefer big coin coins with high fame to make long term investments, let's call it ETH, BTC, XRP, and NEO. I believe that they have good potential.Buy litecoins and ethereum and keep them for long, your investment wont go to waste, buy Bitcoin and keep it even longer it will turn you into a millionaire in future
How much your capital ?
if your capital is big I suggest you invest in ETH or Bitcoin, but if your capital is only small I suggest you look for coins that have cheap price but have potential in the future, you can look for coins / tokens ICO, the average coin ICO has prices are relatively cheap and have potential for the future

buy xlm now and save them to invest long term will give you great results. because of the long-term investment in itself does not cover the possibility would be much produced, for one or two years can just coin will start riding high could even be doubled a lot.
Idex Membership Token (idxm) is my new favorite. Price looks high but it has a very good potential. If idex will be more popular, idxm price will reach bitcoins price

There are many coins that you can invest in now and make some good profits in future and some of them are highly cheap coins. Bitcoin is going to make a very high significant upward movement any moment from now. Ethereum is also good that you can add it to the list of the coins that you may like to invest.

Since everything have settled now, i think BTC will go up 1st then the alts. For long term you can never go wrong with BTC and ETH. They may look expensive right now but in the long run will look cheap. Worst mistake of people is investing in high returns and not taking their profit and then losing all their money when their investments crash. It is also good to join twitter to stay updated of the developers of your invested coin so you know when to hold or sell.
