My CPU is Ivy Bridge with AES-NI.
It's an i7 3630QM. But maybe 6 MB L3 Cache isn't enough.

I wanna try GPU's. They are cheaper to buy and are more usable. You can extend them easy. And the power consumtion wouldn't be much more than CPU's.

Is there no hardware camparison list?
What do you guys use for mining and what's the hashrate of it?

My rig pulls 1150 watts at the wall.
175 per AMD 280x GPU for a total of 1050 watts (6xGPU) Average about 3030 H/s with the GPU's
100 watts for the i5 Intel CPU running 2 of the 4 cores for mining.  I pull about 100 H/s with this CPU so you should be getting better than that.
2 cores are open to run the OS and the rest of the system.  I've found that 8GB of ram run the overall system better than the 4GB I had in there initially.

Total system hash on average 3130 H/s

...

You told me the fastest GPU's doing 200 H/s? .... so why does he has 500 H/s with a 290x? I guess 390's would even be faster.

Not the fastest, most power efficient. 750 ti uses ~50 W to get 250 h/s. 290x probably uses like 300 W to get 900 h/s with claymore miner I think.

I asked for the most powerfull. Not for the most efficient.

8 Threads = 80 H/s
6 Threads = 65 H/s
3 Threads = 50 H/s

What miner you use?

I did it! Reached the next performance milestone on 290X!

Thread 0 is a 280X at 1150/1500, Thread 1 is a 290X at 1125/1500, Thread 2 is a 290X at 1150/1500, and Thread 3 is a Fury (unlocked to Fury X) at 1100/0500 (NSFW): https://ottrbutt.com/tmp/xmr-improved1.png

Good job, and thanks for adding NSFW.

Here's the same thing, but with no furry pr0n:  http://imgur.com/FuYRKSG

My system was set-up 2 month before. It's all brand new. All the drivers and BIOS is new. I did benchmarks and the results were ok. I also did some System testing tools. They didn't find any errors.

But my system is fully encrypted with veracrypt and cascading algorithms. Maybe this is the problem.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
Something is definitely wrong there, but I don't know enough about mining on Windows to suggest what it might be.

Anyone?

Yes, something is borked.

How does 1 thread do?

Try benchmarking the subsystems to isolate the problem.

You might have to update your BIOS, set it to optimized defaults, and reinstall Windoze.

How to assign them to special cores?

I just know -t number

Don't worry about cores for now, you can optimize that later. What hash rate are you getting with 3 threads? If not at least 150 something is wrong.

6MB L3 is enough for three threads.  Assign them to cores 1,2,3 (leaving 0 for the OS) and you'll do fine.

GPUs use more power per hash, as they brute force what CPU's AES-NI and on-die cache do elegantly.

With 6 MB cache you want 3 threads. With more or fewer threads you will probably get a worse hash rate. (Fewer might still be okay if you are using the computer or want to reduce heat though.) Should be around 180 w/3 threads.

The workhorse of GPU mining for Monero has been 750ti, with a hash rate of around 200-250 (depends on model). Many other GPUs can be used, but I'm not sure there is an up to date hardware list.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
I use an i7 quadcore CPU and "only" get 60-80 H/s. Sure there are faster ones... but I've seen GPU's with 500 H/s.

So I'm sure GPU's are much faster. But which one is the fastest? R9 390 with 8GB Ram?

Or are there even ASICS for Cryptonight?

Your i7 should be faster than that.  Try using 1 thread per 2MB L2 cache, and assign the process to alternate logical cores (1,3) to help cache segregation.

CN exploits specialized AES-NI circuitry in modern CPUs, which makes then effectively ASICs.

To make a CN ASIC, you need a chip covered on AES-NI units attached to on-die ultra-low latency memory (L1+L2+L3+L4).

For the ASIC to be remotely competitive, you'd need to use a process comparable with modern CPUs, around 22nm.

All that would cost a bloody fortune and only produce something marginally faster than an i7.

So it's not going to happen until Monero is halfway to the Moon.

Put another way, CN was designed to use modern CPUs as ASICs, in order to protect decentralization and ensure a distribution sufficiently wide to bootstrap the ecosystem.

Your i7 must be old without AES-NI. The new ones get 250 H/s or so.

There are no ASICs. The fastest server CPUs (many $K) are probably >1000 H/s. I don't know what the fastest GPUs can do.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
Could someone please  tell me what's the fastest mining device available?

What is important for cryptonight?
Amount of memory? Bus of memory? Core clock? Memory clock?

Multi-core server CPUs are fastest, though GPUs may be more economical.

CN exploits specialized AES-NI circuitry in modern CPUs, which makes then effectively ASICs.

The algorithm performance is constrained by L2+L3+L4 on-die cache capacity (2MB per thread) and latency therein.

This is all very nice because it approximates Satoshi's ideal of 1-CPU-1-vote.

Variance shouldn't matter much, unless by "small" you mean "infinitesimal".

Agree. There are still going to be 720 blocks per day. With 0.14% of the network hash rate you will average a block per day.
