In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks. The required scores are:

(...)

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

I have started a thread in the Dutch local section, two months ago. I've still got sMerit to give...

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-in-nederlandstalige-community-3494821

Some say there's a problem with people not willing to give sMerits. Seeing that after several weeks, I still haven't given out all of my sMerits in the Dutch section, I'd rather think there's a problem with people not willing to RECEIVE Merits... Roll Eyes Tongue Embarrassed

Enlightening thread....

How do I get Merit to rank up?

Please read the first post. Reading a post like these after 200++ pages makes me kind of mad because there are so many people who has hand that is faster than their brain, they can not even think before asking with a post.

My problem with the current merit system is simple: I was a Hero member, my account was hacked and I had to start all over again since I could not get any help with recovering my account.
'Start over again', what does it mean?
Can you explain a bit more about your case?
After the hack, your account's postcounts dropped and you had to collect activities again, or you actually lost the Hero-ranked account forever and had to start from zero with a Newbie account/
Which one is your case?

It means I never got the Hero account back, had to start completely form scratch as a newbie.. No help, had to open a new account and start over. This actually happened twice accounts RJF and RJF19 both hacked and these accounts had good passwords and no leaks from my computer, odd. I reported it both times, no joy.

How do I get Merit to rank up?
Well, you managed to get a contradiction going there, nearly an oximoron. You cannot seriously consider the thread enlightening and not having understood what this is all about. With that lack of effort on your behalf, ranking-up is going to be an ideal that will simply not crystallize.

Often, when you study for an exam or prepare a meeting, you need to reread it all a couple of times to get the hang of it first and eventually master it. Consider this something of the kind: if after reading this thread you cannot answer your own question, reread the thread until you eventually do:

WHILE merit is not understood AND still wanting to contribute to this community
BEGIN
Read posts on thread (or extend over to other threads on the topic if necessary)
Refrain from creating posts asking trivial or sufficiently answered questions
END

There are three posible exit combination to the above algorithm. Hopefully you will do it meeting them in positive...

it is very interesting to see the full members who, with 100 merits, were able to grow to great ranks. There are such? Respond please!
There are such indeed ... check out the following thread by mdayonliner : 5 lists for merit earners: Initial merit drop to the next recognized rank

You can also see it on the Merit Dashboard.

- Go to the Tab called “Ranked-Up”. There are 38 Full Members (initial Merit of 100) that are now Sr. Members (250 Merits or above).
- There are also 9 Sr. Members (initial Merit of 250)  that are now Hero Members (500 Merits or above).
- Click on the number from the top table to update the detail on the bottom table with the User Ids and Names that have ranked-up. Click on any username to access the link that takes you to the user profile on Bitcointalk.

Edit: I've just seen that coinlocket$ also answered in the post above mine, so you can see we try to help around when the question is not some sort of spam or easy to answer by looking around a bit.

Edited : On the other hand you already spammed 3 posts while I was writing this, so I guess I'll just report you myself.

You have to be dead from the neck up to post plagiarized content in meta. I also reported him earlier after finding >8000 search results with the same statistically improbable phrase shown above.

Bitcoins are created as a reward for a process known as mining. They can be exchanged for other currencies,[13]products, and services. Research produced by the University of Cambridge estimates that in 2017, there were 2.9 to 5.8 million unique users using a cryptocurrency wallet, most of them using bitcoin.[14]

On 18 August 2008, the domain name "bitcoin.org" was registered.[25] In November that year, a link to a paper authored by Satoshi Nakamoto titledBitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System[4] was posted to a cryptography mailing list. Nakamoto implemented the bitcoin software as open source codeand released it in January 2009 onSourceForge.[26][27][12] The identity of Nakamoto remains unknown.[11]

In January 2009, the bitcoin network came into existence after Satoshi Nakamoto mined the first ever block on the chain, known as the genesis block.[28][29] Embedded in the coinbase

You have copied all this from steamit, but you didn't mention the source, those type of actions here are considered plagiarism and are the final result is ban.

Let me FTFY.

I was looking for a clear and understandable explanation about the ranking system. And this is the closest I have come to such a thing. Thank you for sharing this. Although I don't understand why they use such complex algorithms to calculate rankings.

You and I both...

Don't worry, Google search rankings will soon include 'how to move up the ranks on bitcointalk.org', or 'how to get merits in bitcointalk.org' among the top searched. Maybe then it becomes more explicit.

How i wish i can make my own topic that will acquire me my very first merit,
Creating a "topic", doesn't guarantee you that you'll earn a merit and it isn't the only way to earn a merit either.

maybe some of the members here will try to advise me.
Try to contribute normally (don't try too, you'll get it eventually).

Reading a thread is difficult.

I didn't say read the whole thread, I said the opening post, that's the first one. If you want a tip as to how to get some merit the most important one I can think of is to never post in a thread if you haven't read at least the whole of the opening post.

Well said, I think that half of the comments to this post are written and not reading the introductory post. And the second half - about charging the merit during its introduction, just for the activity, which is not entirely fair and should be corrected with time.

but confused who can gives us merit its automated or users have power to give merit and how ?  Shocked

You will be confused until you start reading. The opening post of this thread describes how it works.
Reading a thread is difficult.
Searching for the right thread is even more difficult.
Asking again again someone to explain again and again is easy.
Someone just don’t want to understand how life works.

that means if I want to be a member I must have 10 merit right ?
Yeah right.

but how can I gain merit can anyone explain please  Huh
Help other members & write high quality posts...
That was said over and over in hundreds of topics but you are right, it is hard to find those simple informations in the bounties and alternate cryptocurrencies board...

Only your astonishing merit/activity ratio can explain the extremely witty (borderline sarcastic), yet effective answer given to that lazy user.
If I had merit I would contribute myself to increase that ratio!

My two cents,
F1

Everything is too general, I do not know how to get merit. Please guide me in detail!
Thanks you!
Get used to being a Jr. Member, because you're going to be stuck at that rank for quite some time.  Does that help?

Seriously, why are you asking a question that's been answered probably a hundred fucking times in this thread alone?  If you don't speak English and insist on posting in English, forget about it.  Hit up your local board and pray to your silly little god that there's a merit source around.  That's all the help anyone can give you.

"Thanks you" is a dead giveaway that you're in the wrong section of bitcointalk.

Why should ANYONE answer this question when it's obvious you can't be bothered to read all the other posts that would address it?  You're obviously not going to read or understand any other answers people can give.  And since it's so important to you, it's clear you're just another bounty hunter shitposter and nobody gives a fuck whether you understand or not.  You're going on ignore, along with tuantrau.
