sir can you explain further about paying for merit just to rank up? there are people like that? in my mind is that they will be banned if noticed, right?

The Merit History seen on any user profile is limited to the las 120 days. All previous merit transactions are not shown, thus giving the impression to some that there is no historical record for transactions over 120 days old. On Meta there are at least seven methods that I’m aware of that have been published, and that give you access to the complete merit transaction history. Some of the systems are easier and quicker to use than others, while the scope and depth of analytical capabilities varies amongst them, as do the skills necessary to operate them. The good thing is that there are enough methods for everyone to take their pick based on their needs.

Also Vod 's BPIP project lets you trace user profile information, merit, trust, activity, posts, etc., updating the data within a very short time spam from the update on the Bitcointalk website.
   

I'm noticing in the Dutch forums that threads with "merit" mentioned receive a lot of Google Translate, automated, bot comments.
It probably won't work, but it's still annoying.

I know I am new here and merit is kind of important for new members here. With time it should not really matter much just like the activity.

really useless your merit system, now scammers found the trick and it will penalize even more the legit guys
i see more and more guy with merit but no historic
i guess they give merit to their alt and after that, they delete the post, the merit stays but there are no proof of collusion

Maybe the rules on bitcointalk are for the convenience of account users, so there are no duplicate accounts or spammers, so it's a bit difficult especially now that there is a better merit system.

You will do fine, just follow the forum rules and follow them. Also, give some attention to grammar like typing I instead of "i".

Hahaha funnny as shit! But yeah, that’s exactly what is happening now. Then again it’s better than everyone getting to higher ranks just by posting a weekly report of their Facebook bounty campaign in some threads. Like it more than I hate it :p

The main purpose of this forum is to learn from one another that can be used on your work that will come on your way later on.. there advices, strategies and wisdom to keep on working hard for yourself and success of your project.

All I can say is that merit and ranking system is already there and will come on your way later on.. just keep working hard to earn trust and ofcourse money 😊

I ought to ask an intelligent question or compose an elaborate, let's just say well written, reply but as I just posted one and saw your post above the one I responded to I thought I'd comment. Any merit received, I will gladly continue by sending the smerit to a deserving member who has not been dealt any; or has received fewer than perhaps the level of the quality of their writing in posts on this forum.

Reading through several posts in this thread helped shed some light on how the merits work, as without much knowledge about this previously I thought that if I clicked the "+merit" link it would automatically apply one merit to that post (not accounting where they come from, but if I have only 1 merit and clicked I assumed I would be giving away that merit).



I now understand that the new system also awards smerits, to send without affecting ones 'earned' merits. This makes sense but I'm not sure how many general members are aware of this. It does seem like they are being held quite tightly... as if many members think as I did previously, that if you give a merit it is deducted from those you've earned (without any regard to the smerits).

The paragraph above I included since I am now seeing merit selling being discussed in off-site, individual coin community forums, and partly wanted to see if that is even allowed. This must definitely be due to new rank requirements and it was stated in the older thread, about such topics, that some of the members here were afraid that would happen--yes it is happening.

There ought to be a better way, or a highlighted/pinned post about the rank and merit changes and requirements (and likely there is, I'm reading them here) to enlighten members with plenty of merit that the intent is to encourage quality posting and award will be out of smerit and NOT deducted from their own.

There is an advantage to the way how merits can be given currently.

When you click on merit, a new tab opens and you are asked to input merits and then send. So, it is kind of confirmation that you really want to send merits and double check on how much you want to send. I think admin could easily integrate what you are suggesting but he might have kept it this way intentionally.
