AMD beta driver create problem to control Voltage .. In my rx 580 it take over 115 W

Post your bios and I'll mod it, maybe the new drivers will like a modded bios better.

**** If you click "download" on any ROM(s) I post from pastebin.com then "save as" a .uue file then extract the compressed .7z archive with WinRAR, WinZip, etc.. and the bios_file.rom will be inside the .7z

I've modded the ROM on my Gigabyte RX580-4GB with Elpida memory. GPU underclock, VRAM overclock, lowered Voltage offset and patched brand performance specific straps.

30 MH/s ETH
830 H/s XMR @ 90W (gpuz)

Gigabyte RX580-4GB (Elpida) Mining BIOS
Gigabyte RX580-4GB (Elpida) Mining BIOS v2 *** fixed TRCDR/TRCDRA

If you've got any mod requests I think I can mod most RX cards.

UPDATE:

It seems not all Gigabyte RX580-4GB cards are made the same, I had one card start putting out hardware errors running the VRAM at 2000. So I made this new ROM that runs the memory slower, much slower. Good news I saved 10W on power, bad news it hashes at only 700 H/s.

I completely agree. too many sleepless nights with this card.

but I may be on to something with the bios I played around with last night.

Ethash:29Mh/s temp:66C power:85W errors/hour:27/3

started with original bios then with PBEv1.6.2
- applied one click timings
- upped max fan speed from 3000 to 3300
- upped the core voltage@300 from 750mv to 824mv
- changed core voltage@900 to 65282
- changed core voltage@1145 to 65282
- changed core voltage@1215 to 65283
- changed core voltage@1257 to 65283
- changed core voltage@1300 to 65283
- changed core voltage@1365 to 65283
- changed memory voltage@2000 to 1024

MSI AB setting: 1145core/2100mem/80% fan
Trixx setting: 1145core/2100mem/-108mV

no problem boss. no need to apologize. whats with the globe business?

tried without after burner. just with trixx to undervolt.
same results. maybe am doing something wrong or its just no use running both nvidia and amd on same rig.

will put this freaking card in a separate rig as the nvidia cards won't be able to work without MSIAB.

@henyojess did you say you're using msi afterburner? turn that off uninstall it then test the bios i made, there's no reason you shouldn't be getting well over 30 MH/s ETH.

Oh and sorry about the confusion, I hate to be gullible especially after that globe business.

@notbatman
hey, am really not pulling your leg. I have nothing but respect for you and your work.
Are you saying gpu-z is wrong when reporting that my card has hynix mem instead of the samsung?
why do you find it hard to believe the card exists?

I also noticed this from your earlier posting:
GV-RX580XTRAORUS-8GD/F2/0540 (C) 1988-2010, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
My card has this from your latest posting:
GV-RX580AORUS-8GD/F4/0529 (C) 1988-2010, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

Notice, no XTR? could mean they used hynix mems.

@whatomine
glad to finally find someone with the same card! I will try to lower voltages just like your bios.
can you please share your original bios and your modified bios just in case I screw up?
Whats your ambient temp? What card temps are you getting at 117W?
To be clear, voltages are set at card bios? you are not undervolting via trixx? or undervolt via MSI AB?
what settings did you set in MSI AB? just fans? or core and mem clock?
what settings did you set in claymore?
Are you on win10pro?
Are you using the latest blockchain drivers?
What version of MSI AB are you using?

thanks.

Notice this from my current posting,

thanks.

^^^ Gigabyte doesn't put Hynix memory in their GV-RX580AORUS-8GD card end of story. You're a proven liar, documented and archived by folks who put bankers owners in jail (Iceland). If that card has H5GC8H24MR (SK Hynix) GDDR5 RAM then Gigabyte didn't put it in there.

Hardware: Intel G3930, asrock fatal1ty gaming k4, 4GB DDR4, 4x1060,2x1070, 1xpciex1-4xpciex1 expander
OS: fully patched win10 pro
drivers:latest amd block chain drivers+atikmdag patch and latest nvidia drivers.
utilities: MSI AB beta 19 and sapphire trixx

Current modified bios using one click timing patch and reduced memory voltage:
http://oi63.tinypic.com/2kg09x.jpg

Current performance with claymore10:
http://oi64.tinypic.com/mvrgpj.jpg

current observed behavior:
when core clock is increased to 1000 and core voltage is offset down to 925mV(anything lower hangs)
hashrate becomes 27MH/s which is still below expected 29-30MH/s and temps become uncontrollable and eventually climbs to 79C even with fans at 80%

when mem clock is increased to 2040 at either 1000mv or 900mv, the system hangs as soon as mining starts.

I hope you guys can help me. Let me know if any details are still missing.

I have the same card and it is running at 29 Mh/s ETC + 800Mh/s LBC dual mining. My settings: 1150 + 2050 and 870mV for both mem and core voltages. The card draws 117 Watts reading from GPU-Z. The only difference in the rom that i'm using is the 750 mV  was set for 300 Mhz instead of 800 mV as in your rom. The card does get lots of memory errors if running above 2050 mem-clock. Also, all of the setting was set in claymore and the fan speed was set to 50% using afterburner.

Hi guys! I hope you can help me.

I recently obtained my first AMD card which is an Aorus RX 580 8GB Hynix(shown in gpuz).
It is currently installed in a rig with 2x1070 and 6x1060 as the 9th card.

OS:Win10 pro
Driver:amd blockchain driver(aug 23)
Bios: stock(1365core,2000mem)
Miner: claymore v10.0
EthDcrMiner64.exe  -mode 1 -platform 1 -epool eth-sg.dwarfpool.com:8008 -ewal 0xAAAAAAA -epsw x

at stock bios and stock clocks and voltages:
ethash: 22Mh/s @ 120W with temps rapidly reaching 80C+ even with fans at 100%(3400rpm)

I already did the most basic bios mod of copying 1750 -> 2000 timing straps
Bios Editor: Polaris Bios Editor v1.6.2(https://github.com/jaschaknack/PolarisBiosEditor)
ethash: 25Mh/s @ 120W with temps rapidly reaching 80C+ even with fans at 100%(3400rpm)

performance: poor. temps: too high. power: too much.
Should I just give this card away?

can someone share good roms for this card?
What hash rates are you getting at what power consumption and temps?
Are you guys using the blockchain driver? Should I shift back to regular drivers?
Are you able to unlock core voltage controls in MSI afterburner? Its currently grayed out.

^^^ The Gigabyte Aorus RX580-8GB has Samsung memory according to the stock BIOS... The 4GB version has the slower SK-Hynix memory.

@notbatman
am quite sure its hynix based on latest gpuz and polaris bios editor

do you happen to have the stock bios you are referring to?

thats aorus xtr.

I have the regular one Wink

what command did you use to view the information you posted above?

VendorID 0x1002
DeviceID 0x67DF
VRAM: H5GC8H24MJ (HYNIX_2)

Hope you can help me.

This Aorus rx580 8gb card is hopeless.

I UNINSTALLED MSI afterburner beta 19.
I then boot in safe mode and run DDU to remove AMD drivers and prepare for card installation.
To make sure it's not a power issue, I removed 2x1060 cards from the rig.
I installed Gigabyte Aorus rx580 8GB(hynix H5GC8H24MJ) and booted into win10.
I installed the blockchain driver(driver only, other options unchecked).
Next I installed the atikmdag patcher.
Next I rebooted and then installed MSI afterburner beta 19.

I checked MSI afterburner beta 19 and found that I can't modify core voltages.
I tried running claymore10 with: -mode 1 -platform 1 -benchmark 145 -tt -80 -tstop -79 -cclock 1100 -cvddc 950
result: 24Mh/s 100W(gpuz power draw) and temps rapidly climbing to 79C(terminating claymore10) even with fans at 80% and 950mV was IGNORED

I tried running claymore10 with: -mode 1 -platform 1 -benchmark 145 -tt -80 -tstop -79 -cclock 1000 -cvddc 950
result: 24Mh/s 90W(gpuz power draw) and temps rapidly climbing to 79C(terminating claymore10) even with fans at 80% and 950mV was also IGNORED

I tried running claymore10 with: -mode 1 -platform 1 -benchmark 145 -tt -80 -tstop -79 -cclock 900 -cvddc 950
result: 22Mh/s 85W(gpuz power draw) and temps rapidly climbing 79C(terminating claymore10) even with fans at 80% and 950mV was also IGNORED

I installed sapphire trixx to try to undervolt.

undervolt by: -156mV
I tried running claymore10 with: -mode 1 -platform 1 -benchmark 145 -tt -80 -tstop -79 -cclock 900
result: 22Mh/s 80W(gpuz power draw) and temps stable at 69C with fans at 80% and vcore:0.89mV

running higher core clock regardless of undervolt results in temps climbing to 79C(terminating claymore10)
anything at or above 85W (gpuz power draw) results in temps climbing to 79C(terminating claymore10)

this is all done with stock bios. help???!!!

Hardware: Intel G3930, asrock fatal1ty gaming k4, 4GB DDR4, 4x1060,2x1070, 1xpciex1-4xpciex1 expander
OS: fully patched win10 pro
drivers:latest amd block chain drivers+atikmdag patch and latest nvidia drivers.
utilities: MSI AB beta 19 and sapphire trixx

Current modified bios using one click timing patch and reduced memory voltage:

Current performance with claymore10:
http://oi64.tinypic.com/mvrgpj.jpg

current observed behavior:
when core clock is increased to 1000 and core voltage is offset down to 925mV(anything lower hangs)
hashrate becomes 27MH/s which is still below expected 29-30MH/s and temps become uncontrollable and eventually climbs to 79C even with fans at 80%

when mem clock is increased to 2040 at either 1000mv or 900mv, the system hangs as soon as mining starts.

I hope you guys can help me. Let me know if any details are still missing.

I hope you're not just pulling my leg with a hoax BIOS, I still can't believe this is a real card...

In any case I modded the BIOS so here it is: RX580_SN085_MINING_BIOS.rom

** WARNING **
UNTESTED BIOS

note:

Test XMR with sgminer-gm 5.5.5 or gatelessgate v0.1.3.pre6, claymore is still working out some bugs... The ETH/DCR miner is very stable however.

Hi notbatman.

Thank you for the modified bios and giving me the benefit of the doubt that this sucky card exists.

I was able to download the bios you posted on pastebin saving it as a uue file.
I used winzip to extract it as 7zip complained about errors opening you uue file.
I extracted the 7z file and opened that with 7zip.

I was able to extract the bios rom you provided.
Before flashing, I first reset to default settings on AB and Trixx and flashed with atiflash.
I then did full shutdown and cut power to the rig.
Rebooting, I again reset defaults with AB and Trixx.
core clock now defaults to 900 and mem clock defaults to 2250.
I tried applying undervolt via Trixx but its not working.

Result:
No change in hashrate: 24.7Mh/s
Slight drop in power use from 71.5w to 70w according to gpuz
Lots of memory errors according to hwinfo. more than 50k in 3 minutes.

did you also use pbe 1.6.2?
the bios rom you provided uses the same timings as my current modified bios.
as far as I can tell, mem voltage was dropped to 880 from 1000 default.
max gpu freq was dropped to 1100 from 2000 default.
can you share what else you changed?

Yeah, PBE is one of the apps I use. I forced the memory to run at 2250. I can't do any more for you without having the card in hand, I suspect the factors limiting your hash rate are related to system hardware, mining software or video drivers.

BTW where did you get this card from?

this card came from lazada:
http://www.lazada.com.ph/gigabyte-aorus-radeon-rx580-8g-videographics-card-gv-rx580aorus-8gd-19765677.html?spm=a2o4l.search.0.0.f8f0e08Qp9IRi&ff=1

I also tried this card on a standard desktop, amd a8 processor, gigabyte board, no other pcie gpu, clean install win10pro + latest amd drivers.
It works stable for gaming at 1080p but was running hot(75C) and I believe consuming too much power.

anyways, thanks again.

I will probably sell this, you want to take it off my hands for 1eth?
need to check though how much cost to ship to your place.

I have saphire nitro 470 4gb cards (mining edition) with samsung memory. Any on modifying the bios? Should I just copy the 1500 straps all the way, or?

Thanks

BBT has a Bios modded for those card in the description of the live stream video he did on them.
