It could not be considered as the main reason but the correct reason is almost 85% of tokens in the market are using ethereum as the main platform and that creates a lot of noise about ethereum. Because any discussion about ico will be related to the ethereum platform too.

Yes ETH is slowly losing its dominance and reputation, the main reason for the downfall of ETH could be the scam projects which played a vital role of the dump.
However ripple is taking advantage of this and it is in peak now, ETH need to comeback strong to regain its position.

You are right, now a lot of people believe in eth , I myself as well and it is unlikely that Ethereum will disappear from the top coins, the platform is very popular and in demand ! almost all the talk about Ethereum, maybe they are one of the fans of Ethereum so they always monitor the movements of Ethereum so they talk about Ethereum.
