Sergio Perez is being tested for COVID-19 for second time.
He keeps himself in isolation ulti the results come out.
If he will be positve then we are going to probably see the Calendar being postponed for at least 15 days...
And his second Covid-19 test was positive:
https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/53601564
But they aren't going to postpone race because of this. Almost 2 weeks passed since last race and Perez didn't had contact with staff and other drivers recently. He will be replace by Stoffel Vandoorne or Esteban Gutierrez.
When season is so short, every missed race can affect position in drivers championship seriously...

@LTU_btc yea the race is on and it makes no sense to cancel it because there’s very limited time now, and further no one else seems to be effected because of him so it’s fine if they continue with this race.

Sergio Perez is positive to COVID, the 1st rumor is that they are talking for a new driver so the GP will happen.

I think they will let Hulkenburg drive the next two races.

Perez have to be at least 10 days in quarantine so will also miss next weekend.

@dre1982 according to this article (link below) Hulkenberg paid a visit to Racing Point Silverstone factory, and they believe that his name will be announced as the driver who’ll replace Sergio for the upcoming race.

Quote

According to reports from Motorsport.com and Racer, Racing Point is leaning towards the German’s services this weekend. The Racer reports that Hulkenberg visited Racing Point’s Silverstone factory for a seat fit on Thursday. Allegedly, the team could potentially announce Nico Hulkenberg as Perez’s replacement on Friday morning.

Well I know that Verstappen has a clause in his contract but I think Mercedes is the only other team which can give him a better car.

The team dynamic is a crucial factor. I think there is zero chance of Verstappen or Vettel going to Mercedes whilst Hamilton is still there. Remember the chaos and infighting of the Hamilton/Rosberg years? What they have now in Bottas is a very good driver who is willing to accept (to the extent that any driver ever accepts it) that he is the number 2 in the team and a back-up to Hamilton. Mercedes have a world-class, multi-champion lead driver, and a second driver who is high enough quality to ensure that Mercedes remain constructors champions. And the team atmosphere is calm. Mercedes gain nothing by bring in Verstappen or Vettel. Hamilton is a winner, and if Bottas is good enough for 2nd place, then how can they improve on that?

I agree with all of you and I never meant to say Verstappen will leave, just that he always has that option open based on his contract.

And yeah, Merc is the best at the moment, but that can change and things in Formula change sometimes very drastically and fast. Plus you have an allure of Ferrari always present and not many drivers pass opportunity to drive for Ferrari.

All this is for 2022. not 2021. There could be a lot of shuffling in 2022. when it comes to drivers.

So some talks are swirling around that Vettel is going to Racing Point next year as there are more talks about its car being legal and allowed.

But here's another rumor...  If the pink Merc is legal, Toro Rosso or whatever they're called now will build a car next year based on this year's RB16 and get Vettel to drive it.  Hmmm...  Vettel will be back at RBR in no time after Verstappen leaves.

Well dont know when Verstappen will leave Red Bull. The only step forward for him is to Mercedes and I don't see that happen when Hamilton is still in the Mercedes team.

Verstappen has a clause in his contract that he can leave if the team does not build a car that can compete for the title, so technically Verstappen can leave suddenly depending on the car performance.

Regarding Vettel, I'm pretty sure he will end up in Racing point/Aston Martin.

Well I know that Verstappen has a clause in his contract but I think Mercedes is the only other team which can give him a better car.

At Red Bull they think they have found the recent problems of the car and have fixed it. Let's see if there are closer to Mercedes this weekend.

I think as you, only Mercedes is for Verstappen a step forward. I also read about aerodynamic problems at RedBull, the team analysis the problem and when they understand the problem then engineers will fix. Newey speak from a very difficult situation. So RedBull make one step back to later two forward, but i only find a German article.

https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/red-bull-problem-analyse-upgrades-nase-aerodynamik/

So i hope RedBull have fix the problem for this weekend, the races would be more exciting again.

New article about Racing Point (Aston Martin) and Vettel

Aston Martin would be "foreign territory" for Vettel

But is this good for Vettel to go to the #2 Mercedes Team and he have chance to win with Aston Martin Brand prix?

If the car Racing Point builds will be really competitive and would give Vettel a chance to fight for winning races that would be good for Vettel and F1 in general. However I strongly believe that Racing Point will not offer such a car with this performance next year.We have to see the behavior of this car in the upcoming races and if it is on the upside then maybe they will be able to offer such car to Vettel.

Next year Racing Point becomes unnamed to Aston Martin (Mercedes Team #2) , at time Sergio Perez have a valid contract for next year and i think the departure will be well paid from Aston Martin. Maybe Vettel paused one year?

About Mercedes, i wonder about this news? The DAS system is banned next year?

Mercedes plans to continue with DAS development

 Huh Huh

Well it is mentioned in the article that they will focus mostly on extracting as much performance out of DAS as possible during this season. There is not much talk that they will still focus on further development of the DAS after this season ends, but if they find a way to adjust it so it bends the rules a bit they will use it in 2021 in a new way for sure.

Very good race for all viewers at TV, so Fabio make a start to end victory -> amazing like A Marc ✌.

Congratulations to Yamaha, their drivers managed to get on the podium to receive the trophy. The incredible surprise of the Andalusian GP F. Quartararo won again. This makes it the leader of the standings with 50 points. Interestingly, it turns out that F Quartararo is only included in the Yamaha Petronas satellite team, not from the manufacturer's team that has large funds for research. In history, I remember the name Marco Melandri, who also had a record winning streak with a satellite team.

I just watched some on board videos from Portimao track. Here is one if you're interested https://youtu.be/8TAA0FDQJRo
What I can say, it looks like interesting and good track to race. It reminds me other F1 track a bit, just not sure which one. Maybe Zandvoort or Istanbul.
Interesting, what configuration they are going to use, especially in first corner.

Thank you for the link, the course looks really interesting for this year so i am anxiously waiting for this race.

Minor F1 update.

The fact is Ferrari have no chance in 2020, with a shortened season and from a position so far behind Mercedes - where they are actually getting lapped in a race! Equally they have little chance in 2021 with the restrictions that have been put in place for that season due to the Covid19 pandemic. Perhaps with enough little changes they could be competitive in 2021, but it's a lot of effort for a single season before everything has to start again. I think the focus on 2022 makes absolute sense.

Confirmation of the above has now come from the Ferrari chairman (John Elkann).

Ferrari chairman says team cannot be competitive before 2022
Quote
"This year we are not competitive because of car design errors," Elkann said.
"We have had a series of structural weaknesses that have existed for some time in the aerodynamics and dynamics of the vehicle. We have also lost in engine power.
"The reality is that our car is not competitive. You saw it on the track and you will see it again."
Elkann said that Ferrari supported the decision taken at the height of the coronavirus pandemic to delay new rules aimed at closing up the field until 2022.
But he admitted that this decision, and the fact that teams have to use the same cars again in 2021 as this year, would penalise Ferrari "greatly, given that we start off poorly - and we must be realistic and aware of the structural weaknesses of the machine, with which we have been living for a decade".
He also addressed the team's decision not to renew Vettel's contract and replace him for 2021 with Spaniard Carlos Sainz.
"In the past 10 years we have had champions such as (Fernando) Alonso and Vettel, who have been world champions," Elkann said. "But it is undoubtedly more difficult to rebuild a cycle and ask patience to those who have already won compared to those who have the future ahead of them.
"We are laying the foundations for building something important and lasting, and the contract we signed with Charles proves it: five years, never so long in Ferrari's history.
"Leclerc and Sainz will make Maranello their home, will be close to our engineers. The new machine will be born with them."

It may be that this year and next both turn out to be a Mercedes procession, although Mercedes have said they're unsure how their car will perform in hot conditions, and there was that potential reliability issue from the first race...

Mercedes will presumably dominate the next 2 years until the new rules come into force, after which the cards will be shuffled again. Until then it will be a one man show, I fear. Mercedes have a little problems at very hot temperatures but the can reduce a little bit the power and the are fast enough.
