Bitcoin address signing seems more appropriate in my opinion. We don't all use PGP, but we do all have Bitcoin addresses.
However we don't all have bitcoin clients that can sign messages well/at all.

I would recommend the option to have both, given that PGP is already there is there any problem just leaving it?

Code:
seats owned by kuzetsa
12 seats

theoretical total value
5.64 BTC (from last confirmed sale)

Yay!!! my conversion / signup / whatever thingy finally showed up Smiley

... unfortunately, the value has dropped a bit since when I originally ended up with said "seats" (shares) via glbse.

Ah well, it's better than nothing.

Other thing:

waiting for all members to join

How much longer will everyone be waiting for the pending "members to join" / account conversion process?

Basically, I'm trying to figure out how / why the fan-club uses PGP in the first place

I choose PGP because it is what I use every day for communication. I did not think that Bitcoin message signing is more wanted. But now I think you are right and we should use Bitcoin message signing. Should I throw out all PGP fingerprints submitted and change the account setting to Bitcoin address? Or do other members want PGP also?

I can make this change without a poll because it is a website feature and not nastyfans policy.

and also I'm suspicious about the fingerprint for our president's key... still, even after more than 24 hours, not showing up on any public key servers.

I did not send it yet because there is no need for it yet. Maybe I never send it if we decide to throw out PGP and use Bitcoin message signing instead.

Next? perhaps a chat option on the website? moderated! Wink
we could have a discussion once in a while, could be good for integration of the fans. Just a suggestion...

Basically, I worry when people implement CGI from scratch...

I agree.  That is a potential cause for concern.  However, I trust nonnakip and I am not concerned.

Nothing makes developing an application buggier and slower than re-inventing everything from the ground-up.

Does the site seem slow and buggy to you?

Huh? What? But ... I didn't say anything about the site being slow: The "development" of this application (the nasty fan-site) is what I meant. Performance / speed of various features are more likely constrained by bandwidth / server load / network conditions than the underlying engine. NOT referring to the site as slow.

The "work" or "progress" or however you want to refer to it. Work on that is called "development". For things outside information technology, the word "design" might be the preferred word. The process of software / site / application "development" (the exact words I used were "developing  an application") and that is the only thing I was referring to:

There is something like 20 years of technology that can be built-upon, saving time, and hassles which can be avoided with less time and effort wasted on troubleshooting bugs that shouldn't have been there, but were introduced because someone felt like they knew better than to rely on the work of others.

Basically, I worry when people implement CGI from scratch instead of using a ready-made (open source or otherwise) engine such as coldfusion, asp, c#, php, etc. etc. etc... Feels really gross to have issues like "how much memory should I set aside for this data-entry field" (password or otherwise) which wouldn't even be an issue otherwise -- We're going to have bugs that wouldn't have existed if things weren't done by hand with a manually implemented CGI. THAT will slow us down. Other bugs will exist because a readily available CGI engine or a library written or built for the same use, but then WASN'T used, in favor of "from scratch" etc. etc. etc.

I don't think those are mined coins. I think that is just an actual donation to the website creator - nonnakip

nonnakip takes no donations. Those are for the club.

Well, I stand corrected. And that is awesome.

Will we receive one big dividend for that?

No, but we got another BFL FPGA.

Also, an SC upgrade for it.

There is also a page on the fan club that shows mined coins, or you can watch 1EwtTKJaXAtctSFqCQKU3LiCg9dqYPEkxN

Something I just thought of:

Would it be possible to show the number of seats accepting donations?  Even if it is approx it would be nice to be able to see what my donation would be if it were paid out at that moment.

I also think this would be a cool statistic. Rome wasn't built in a day though. Smiley

A 63 character password limit is more than long enough to satisfy me. It is a non-issue.

Thank you OgNasty. But I decide to increase the limit to 16383 characters. It means I must accept much larger CGI requests but we are talking about kilobytes here so it is not a issue.

To kuzetsa: I hope you use a secure 16383 character long password.  Wink

What the... is this fan-site using some manner of hand-coded, old-school CGI or something?

I see...

Nothing makes developing an application buggier and slower than re-inventing everything from the ground-up.

Does this fan-site not use PGP / GPG normally?

the current president of nastyfans is nonnakip with pgp fingerprint 5ED0 BD48 84D2 CA27 0E64 72D5 C01B 4F70 668F F5EB

I sent e-mail to all on the list. If you did not get e-mail then PM OgNasty. We will wait some time for accounts to be activated. Then we see how many seats are unclaimed.

Yep, got my email.

BUT, I honestly do not remember how many shares seats I had, so I rounded to the nearest 10 seats when creating my account. I'm sure the list you have also has the correct number.

Your question was answered here.

And just for the record, the amount of shares you put in doesn't matter? And is just in case there will be a dispute?

Correct.

If you want you can say what the Bitcoin address is and I will tell you why it is invalid.
The address I'm using is 12PLkshcHDxtUVNe5DseNmA78ngwFZW6eN. Seems like a perfectly valid address to me.

You are correct. There was a error in the BItcoin address validation code. This is now fixed. Thank you for reporting.

Doesn't seem to be fixed yet. The site is still reporting errors when trying to set an address:
Quote
error
invalid pgp fingerprint
failed value test
invalid pgp fingerprint
invalid query
common.c:256

Looks like you filled something in the pgp field.
Leave it blank when setting your address (also leave password blank)
