How many BTC have been mined while GLBSE has been offline? Will we receive one big dividend for that?

Nothing makes developing an application buggier and slower than re-inventing everything from the ground-up.

Does the site seem slow and buggy to you?

Something I just thought of:

Would it be possible to show the number of seats accepting donations?  Even if it is approx it would be nice to be able to see what my donation would be if it were paid out at that moment.

I also think this would be a cool statistic. Rome wasn't built in a day though. Smiley

A 63 character password limit is more than long enough to satisfy me. It is a non-issue.

Thank you OgNasty. But I decide to increase the limit to 16383 characters. It means I must accept much larger CGI requests but we are talking about kilobytes here so it is not a issue.

To kuzetsa: I hope you use a secure 16383 character long password.  Wink

What the... is this fan-site using some manner of hand-coded, old-school CGI or something?

I see...

Does this fan-site not use PGP / GPG normally?

the current president of nastyfans is nonnakip with pgp fingerprint 5ED0 BD48 84D2 CA27 0E64 72D5 C01B 4F70 668F F5EB

Basically, I'm trying to figure out how / why the fan-club uses PGP in the first place, and also I'm suspicious about the fingerprint for our president's key... still, even after more than 24 hours, not showing up on any public key servers.

I even tried searching for just the last 32 bits worth ( 0xC01B4F70668FF5EB ) and still found nothing.

I sent e-mail to all on the list. If you did not get e-mail then PM OgNasty. We will wait some time for accounts to be activated. Then we see how many seats are unclaimed.

Yep, got my email.

BUT, I honestly do not remember how many shares seats I had, so I rounded to the nearest 10 seats when creating my account. I'm sure the list you have also has the correct number.

Your question was answered here.

And just for the record, the amount of shares you put in doesn't matter? And is just in case there will be a dispute?

Correct.

If you want you can say what the Bitcoin address is and I will tell you why it is invalid.
The address I'm using is 12PLkshcHDxtUVNe5DseNmA78ngwFZW6eN. Seems like a perfectly valid address to me.

You are correct. There was a error in the BItcoin address validation code. This is now fixed. Thank you for reporting.

Doesn't seem to be fixed yet. The site is still reporting errors when trying to set an address:
Quote
error
invalid pgp fingerprint
failed value test
invalid pgp fingerprint
invalid query
common.c:256

Looks like you filled something in the pgp field.
Leave it blank when setting your address (also leave password blank)

Next.

I think that point that kuzetsa was attempting to make is that if the hashing is done properly there is no need to arbitrarily limit the password length, and that password max-lengths are generally indicative of storing them directly in the DB.

Taking nonnakip @ his word that he is doing hashing the only reason I can think of the limit is to limit attacks on the system.

Nasty has created a "Fan Club" of Nasty Mining. There's no "securities" here. Only "seats" in the fan club.

I want to stress the fact that nonnakip created the fan club. All I did was hand over the GLBSE list.

By the way, I am still waiting for my email.

About half of the fans are still awaiting emails. Wait another 24 hours before starting to worry.

I also don't particularly like how the Nasty Fan Club is progressing, but its better than nothing.

Give it time. Everything will be sorted out once fans start voting on changes and those not wanting to be a part of the fan club trade in their seats.

Issuing unregistered securities is illegal whether on glbse or someplace else. It doesnt matter what platform you use.
Whoa, can someone ... no actually, can OgNasty please give a detailed description of what exactly is going on?

Nasty has created a "Fan Club" of Nasty Mining. There's no "securities" here. Only "seats" in the fan club.

Every once in a while... maybe every week, a special donation will be made to everyone who has seats in the fan club. The biggest fans "probably, maybe, sort of, .etc" get more donations. The biggest fans are measured solely on how many seats they have in the fan club.

Check in on the fan club and make changes to your seats at the website set up by nonnakip.

I hope that clears up any confusion of what happened to your part Nasty Mining.

If you are using a one-way cryptographic hash (salted or otherwise) to store passwords, there can be no risk of the password being stolen.

I am. I do not know or have access to any passwords. I can increase the maximum password length. But a limit will exist. Do members want passwords longer than 63 characters?

Nope. You're mistaken / doing it wrong:

When hashing passwords using normal best practices, there is never a valid reason to limit the length. Please state your (mal-informed / incompetent / misguided) reason to limit the length of the password. Unless the password is stored using some method other than hashing (which can be deciphered / reversed), there is no reason to limit the length / size of the password.

If you understood what a Cryptographic hash function even was, I wouldn't be needing to explain this:

((quote from "Cryptographic hash function" on wikipedia)) A hash function must be able to process an arbitrary-length message into a fixed-length output.

... Also, here's a second, third, fourth, etc. opinion on the matter:

((...snip...)) any such limitations as an indication that the developers don't know what they're doing securitywise, and are probably going to store the password in cleartext ((...snip...))

Updating my "donations" address gives the error above.. I've tried 2 addys now..

Can you change those awful post buttons (seriously - one form per button) to actualy url's?
Otherwise you end up with "confirm resubmission" when you try to go back on some pages..

You are probably running into the same problem I had. Try clearing out the pgp fingerprint data, so that the only data on your screen is your bitcoin address.

Cool - ta - that worked.. sloppy code on the site.
Why are we using pgp anyway?  You have a bitcoind addy.. the bitcoin api supports signed messages - creating & verifying.
If you need to reset your password - you may as well sign a server generated message with your bitcoin address than with a pgp key.

+1
I really would like to see that implemented. Maybe even with a second address instead of pgp key.

And I also would like to vote against the inactivity timeout. Or please do at least increase the time step from 90 days to 1 year, so in the end it would take 3 years to lose the shares. Time flies by faster, when you get older Wink

If the unsold seats can be used for voting then they would far outweigh the other voters so motions are pretty much pointless.

This is why on most exchanges they are called "treasury shares" and cant be used for that.

Well, I have no problem with only losing voting rights, if I don't login.
