There's absolutely nothing wrong with gambling in front of your kids.  The whole key is being a good parent and teaching proper manners/values/right from wrong etc.  My dad loved gambling.  He went to Vegas 2-3 times a year, and the local gambling "boat" by where we lived once a month at least.  My father was extremely successful in life.  He was a degenerate by any means and he typically did quite well gambling.  But he taught us to be careful, to study before gambling (he read countless blackjack books) etc.  He taught me little life lessons that stick in my head to this day and I lost him when I was 15.  It's all about how you parent/teach your children.  Nothing wrong with gambling around kids, nothing, as long as you teach them to do it properly.

Agree with you because once kids get addicted to gambling they will steal gambling money and it could be your personal funds. So gambling should not be played in front of children and especially not be made known to them about online gambling. You were wrong but everyone needs to be careful here because online gambling is an easy way so anyone can easily adopt this route. Personally i have a specific room where one room is used only by me and my children are not allowed to enter there. Because my kids are not addicted to gambling and they don't know it yet.

For the most part I agree with you.  Anything that can be habit forming shoukd be kept clear out of kids minds.  They are still developing and if they have a natural tendency to fall victim to something like an addiction you could be sending them down the wrong path.  There are more harmful things than other but any and all gambling should probably be kept away

Hey gamblers' community, hope you're all doing great.
I wanted to convey my message here that gambling in front of our kids may put adverse effects on their growing minds and they may also take the wrong path and start gambling (either by asking you personally for funds or by stealing it in order to fulfill their gambling cravings).

I'm sharing this because I saw this issue with my kiddo who was once watching me gamble at a website playing blackjack and she started asking me more about the game. Then one day, she wanted to play it herself and asked me if she can go for it and I said "no, it's not your legal age to go for such games". So, it's better to keep our kiddos away from gambling and let them focus on their studies, else it'd actually ruin everything for the whole family if the kid takes the wrong path.

There's a multiple of things you shouldn't do Infront of children and gambling is one of them. Not only would they be curious about the things we are doing but also learn from our behaviour and expression while we are indulged in it. And most people are not behaving their best when they gamble.
Kids would come to know of things like gambling one day but just like sexual relation we should neither glorify it or tell them it's something very bad.
If you aren't gambling at your place or online Infront of your kids. Fairs are probably the first place kids comes close to gambling. And they would surely want to have a try at the wheel or the hoops, what they should be taught is managing their funds. And stopping when you have lost.

I agree with what you said and although I have never experienced the same problem as you did which is an experience that should not be repeated but I also feel that doing gambling activities in front of children will be very dangerous for their growth.

Even though there is no prohibition on it and it is up to you but when we act as parents, of course we want positive things for a child so when they are not old enough to do gambling then I don't think it is appropriate to be given such direction. As for when they grow up it's up to them, it's just that when they are not old enough then never show our activities that are not too good in front of them let alone suggest it because this can have a big impact on their growth.

I agree, as parents, we need to show that we're a good example to them. Whatever they see, they will copy. Always remember that they're like that and they're looking for a role model that they're going to copy as they grow older. It's hard to see that one of your kids becomes an addicted gambler when they grow old. I dunno if someone will be able to take that and will have to blame himself for not telling them that there's a better way of living aside from gambling. We're old, we know the sides of life and things and we don't want our kids to have that kind of life. We all want the best for them in life and we're just aware of the possible setbacks if they become one in the future. Whether we like it or not, we don't know what's ahead in the future or what they'll be since they'll still be able to know what gambling is and might try that in secret. But just be the best parent for them and teach them the right thing to do and don't gamble, so don't gamble when they're around too.

You must have talked about a sound decision, of course gambling should never be discussed or played in front of children.  When a father discusses gambling in front of his child and gambling can have an adverse effect on his child. When such an adverse effect is exerted on a child, he will certainly raise funds in various ways, and he will not hesitate to steal for gambling. And one day it will be seen that those children will disobey their parents and indulge in various vices and covetousness in which they will perish. That is why we all should never discuss gambling or how it should be done in front of the young children in the society. If a person does this with caution, surely his children will always advance in the path of education and never indulge in gambling or gambling. And to remedy this, every individual must work with awareness, but society can expect good things from children in the future.

Young ones will always have the tendency to copy the actions of elders especially kids that still has no judgements of things. It is their curiosity which pushes them to copy adult actions. Best way is to not expose them with things you don’t want them to learn if not at the present, in the future. We all know the risks involved in gambling and just like with other bad things such as vices, we won’t wish the young ones to copy our wrongdoings. They have least to no control with the consequences of their actions and that simply means they could as well ho beyond what you are doing or the thing that they are trying to copy from you. Gambling is easy to learn but never easy to unlearn. If we are having trouble to stop our drive, so what more of the kids who do not know how hard it is to earn money just to be used in gambling.

It wouldn't be surprising if the kid already has been on the website you have tried playing. Once they see you doing such a thing, it's already in their mind and they may even use it as a reason to do the same. They wouldn't even ask you for anything, they can figure it out themselves. Youth today are more tech-savvy, they may even be gambling inside the games they play on their phone even when it's not a gambling site. Kids find their ways to also do what their parents do.

It's funny to see a post like this. Still, you think gambling is bad if you are trying to hide this addiction from your children and save their innocent lives from it. Smiley

Or maybe you should concentrate on work? Smiley Otherwise you may go down the wrong path. Smiley

This is not about gambling only, there is age limit in everything human being are meant to happen, a gambler is not permission to gamble unless he or she has enter the age bracket of 16-18, that is the most age limit you will see around the world, anything below that age is an abuse, this is just like marrying a girl that is less than 18 years, it is offensive in the eye of the law and the same goes with gambling, if the gambling platform should find out that the gambler is an underage, they have the right to close the account with immediate effect without any warning.

Imagine a 10 years old has already master how to gamble instead of facing their education, it's unavoidable for that child to become gambling addicted when he become adult because the sense that he is meant to be thinking on how to better his life will be focus on gambling and this is what the society see as normal, they don't do anything when they see an underage participate in gambling, they closed eye as if it's nothing, bad parenting every here and there.

Yes a child always learns everything from his parents.  So they will get used to them as their parents do in front of them.  So if a parent gambles in front of their children then the children may try to gamble as a result eventually those children will also be attracted to gambling and become addicted to gambling. Which will bring great danger in the life of that child.  So of course a parent should hide there gambling habit  from kids
A child whose parents fail to teach him properly will indulge in bad habits including gambling. Children will grow up in the same way as their parents teach them from childhood. Gambling in a minor is very dangerous because life is worth it.  He doesn't understand what it is. When he becomes an adult he will understand everything in his life then he will think about his future even if he gambles and later indulges in other bad habits. But a minor will indulge in gambling and other bad habits without thinking.
Gambling is a place of entertainment so it is natural that adults come here to entertain and along with entertainment there is a chance to win some huge amounts in a short period of time which is why people are most attracted to gambling. However, those who are adults can control themselves in all cases, but those who are children or minors cannot control themselves, so they have a lot of risk in gambling.  And this is why a parent should never gamble in front of their children

Better give the kids some other typical games that kids should play with. Gambling in front of them will really give them some thoughts on their mind as they're always curious and why you're playing that and they're not. It will stay on their minds until someday they'll also do it on their own without us knowing it. As a father, we need to take care of their welfare and teach them the right path to take. Yes, we may be gamblers and we're also losing money because of what we're doing but if it's about child care and for the betterment of our kids, we have to control and limit what we're showing and the actions that we do in front of them. Because once they see it, they'll keep asking that over and over again.

I think it mostly depends on the gambling activity and game which one is having fun with.
For example, I would not play dices or slots in front of children, because it can obviously affect the their developing minds; however, there are some games which are quite social and it may not be as harmful as dices and slots are.

When I saw a child, my family used to play bingo and it was an event where both adults and children took place. It was not seen as an addictive activity for children to be hooked up, but rather a community event which was held at most nights.

That is just my personal opinion, of course.
In the end, children still have access to dices and tabletop games, and most of them do fine.

There were few times when my son caught me when I was playing plinko and slot games, he asked me about it after the few times he caught me and how I answered him?
I told him the fact and educate him about the basic thing of what I'm doing (gambling), although he was still underage (around 10) but at that time there was no reason for me to hide it and I took the moment to give early education for him.
Of course it is always better to educate our kids without getting caught first, and better to gamble privately with less chance to get caught by our kids.

Never perform any form of addictive behaviour around your kids. I thought I should add that because gambling is just one of the addictive behaviours that kids can easily pick up from their parents or guardians.

However it takes a responsible parent and Gambler to adhere to this. Parents should not hide the dangers of gambling to their kids because whether they like it or not their kids will sooner or later find out about gambling either from their peers, from social media or from just a simple advertisement. Therefore the earlier the parents speak to their kids about gambling and the inherent dangers involved when the individual becomes addicted to it the better they save their lives so that they do not fall victims.

Parental control is very important for children's future, that way children can know what is allowed and what is not allowed. See how online gambling games are easy for anyone to access. Even slot games can be downloaded from Playstore and can be played anytime and by anyone. We as parents have a responsibility to protect our children and families from gambling games that will have negative effects. If as parents we want to play just for entertainment, then keep it away from the children and don't let them see it. They will tend to imitate their parents' behavior.

It's fine if they see what we're doing because no matter what we do, they will still be able to discover gambling in the future. What important is we are enlightening them about the risk of gambling and remind them that it isn't for kids and it's just for adult who knows how to deal with its risks. It's better to enlighten and guide them than to hide everything from them because when they become curious about gambling, they might try it out since they aren't aware of it's risks.
As parents, it is our responsibility to guide our kids with the right and wrong. Hiding them everything will only left their questions unanswered.
They should never see you gambling, that is the goal, do all your gambling stuffs In private, then I believe you will never have anything to explain to your kids, or they will never have anything like or related to gambling rousing their curiosity.

It is commonly said that, somethings are better left unsaid, than said, I am a father my self and non of my kids have ever seen or watched me gambling aside playing some video games on my phone which I do allow them play at times when I am not using my phone.
Children of nowadays will hardly understand even when you explain heaven and earth, they will still want to try that thing to know how It feels, so it's better to hide it completely from them, until they are of age atleast, by the way. How do you explain to a six year old that gambling is not meant for people of her age, how do you think he or she would understand?

That is right.
Never have I heard my kids ask me what I am doing with my computer unless it's on YouTube and I never watch gamblers who stream their playtime so I am safe there. I don't gamble in front of them but my casino game is always running just to wager so I could say I am not entirely playing or gambling because I am not there. I am more busy with other things and I am just running the casino game for the wager requirement and maybe hoping with some luck that I will hit a jackpot too. I know the sound of a big multiwin so I don't really need to look and just let that browser window be hidden by another. Kids are curious about anything especially my youngest one who is always asking for anything but I am thankful he doesn't ask about the sound that he is hearing.  Cheesy

Childhood is a time when they are always curious about something and always want to try it, so what they see they definitely want to feel to try it.
The title you gave in the thread is very good and I agree with never try to play gambling or never show something that is not good in front of children because it can be a suggestion for them and want to try.
The mistake you made once when your child found you gambling was a condition that was actually wrong and it should not be done again because the more children see something that is still considered negative for some people, the more they want to try it.

Many people don't really realize this even though when we accustom them to seeing or being near when we are gambling, their motorbikes capture more things like this which is also dangerous for themselves.
