Never perform any form of addictive behaviour around your kids. I thought I should add that because gambling is just one of the addictive behaviours that kids can easily pick up from their parents or guardians.

However it takes a responsible parent and Gambler to adhere to this. Parents should not hide the dangers of gambling to their kids because whether they like it or not their kids will sooner or later find out about gambling either from their peers, from social media or from just a simple advertisement. Therefore the earlier the parents speak to their kids about gambling and the inherent dangers involved when the individual becomes addicted to it the better they save their lives so that they do not fall victims.

Parental control is very important for children's future, that way children can know what is allowed and what is not allowed. See how online gambling games are easy for anyone to access. Even slot games can be downloaded from Playstore and can be played anytime and by anyone. We as parents have a responsibility to protect our children and families from gambling games that will have negative effects. If as parents we want to play just for entertainment, then keep it away from the children and don't let them see it. They will tend to imitate their parents' behavior.

I'm sharing this because I saw this issue with my kiddo who was once watching me gamble at a website playing blackjack and she started asking me more about the game. Then one day, she wanted to play it herself and asked me if she can go for it and I said "no, it's not your legal age to go for such games". So, it's better to keep our kiddos away from gambling and let them focus on their studies, else it'd actually ruin everything for the whole family if the kid takes the wrong path.
Childhood is a time when they are always curious about something and always want to try it, so what they see they definitely want to feel to try it.
The title you gave in the thread is very good and I agree with never try to play gambling or never show something that is not good in front of children because it can be a suggestion for them and want to try.
The mistake you made once when your child found you gambling was a condition that was actually wrong and it should not be done again because the more children see something that is still considered negative for some people, the more they want to try it.

Many people don't really realize this even though when we accustom them to seeing or being near when we are gambling, their motorbikes capture more things like this which is also dangerous for themselves.

There is something wrong with you, why do you gamble when you are with your family, even though it should not be shown to your children, especially when they are still with you, I usually prefer to gamble when my children are asleep, so there is no longer any worry for me from what what you think in this thread, actually children's behavior depends on how their parents educate them.

Show children something that is more positive and keep away anything that looks negative in our eyes and is not suitable for consumption by our children, after all we all know that just because you can gamble using a cell phone and is so easy to access, it doesn't mean we gamble on the spot. which is really not good, like when you are with your children or family, play when everyone is asleep and you can play casually.  Wink

I wanted to convey my message here that gambling in front of our kids may put adverse effects on their growing minds and they may also take the wrong path and start gambling (either by asking you personally for funds or by stealing it in order to fulfill their gambling cravings).
I totally agree with you that gambling in front of our kids could affect them negatively. Even gambling companies have age limits for their customers, this means they understand the negative effect of gambling on children.

It is no longer news that gambling requires a great deal of psychological preparedness which children at certain stage are not expected to have gotten. From experience, kids from loosed families that are exposed to gambling at very tender age grow up to become thieves and this paint a very bad image for gambling in general. So, as much as it is possible, we should protect our kids by ensuring they are not exposed to things they are not matured to handle.

Kids of nowadays are just so smart that sometimes, I begin to wonder if they are a different species of human beings, I
In the old days, we could do a lot of adult only things in front of kids and it won't have any negative or so effect on them, but this days, the story have completely changed, if you are a father who smokes, you can't send your child to buy cigarettes for you because if you do, you did one day catch that child smoking at the backyard.

So, I very agree buy in to what op have said, we should never allow our kids watch us while we are gambling, if we allow them do, one day , they would want to try it to see how it feels, and that could become the very beginning of problems for them and family.

This phenomenon is seen a lot, the father who works, his children follow him and try to work. I don't think good about this, gambling behind the eyes of children, gambling should not be done at once. Although many gamble for fun, they must be careful that children do not learn anything about gambling. I won't name the people I saw in the places I live. They 3 brothers are all addicted to gambling, his father gambled and his grandfather also gambled. I think gambling should never be talked about in front of children. Keep your children away from gambling.

It was actually, my daughter was sleeping besides me and I was playing the blackjack game with 20% volume on as my mic got crashed by my daughter on that very same day. I had some funds on my gambling account so I decided to play, didn't see that she got awakened and was watching me playing it. I didn't do it intentionally but it was all by mistake (the reason I was besides her is because, she doesn't sleep without me and I made sure that she slept before I started playing). However, tough luck she saw it.

If someone lets their kids watch them while they are gambling online, they should at least educate them so they will understand. Of course, curiosity will play a big factor, and if they aren't guided, they may be misled. That's how simple it is.

Yes a child always learns everything from his parents.  So they will get used to them as their parents do in front of them.  So if a parent gambles in front of their children then the children may try to gamble as a result eventually those children will also be attracted to gambling and become addicted to gambling. Which will bring great danger in the life of that child.  So of course a parent should hide there gambling habit  from kids
A child whose parents fail to teach him properly will indulge in bad habits including gambling. Children will grow up in the same way as their parents teach them from childhood. Gambling in a minor is very dangerous because life is worth it.  He doesn't understand what it is. When he becomes an adult he will understand everything in his life then he will think about his future even if he gambles and later indulges in other bad habits. But a minor will indulge in gambling and other bad habits without thinking.

It is totally a bad idea to gamble in front of the kids. They will follow what their parents do because the kids are always interested to know it. When they know we gamble, they probably try to gamble as well. We can't blame the kids, it is the mistake made by their parents. As the parents, we must understand it is not the right way to do. Gambling isn't something to show up to the kids, we even don't want other people know it. It surely will bring bad impact to the kids when they are curious about gambling. If they can gamble, they have the chance to get early addiction because the kids will play the gambling games excessively. So, we must be careful about our gambling habits. We must never let our kids to know it!

Kids learn fast and they are curious about everything. One good example is how kids perceive the concepts of reproduction and sexuality - because these are vital subjects that need to be taught in the correct manner in order to develop a free thinking and non-judgemental adult. Similar with gambling and other games of chance in my opinion. Show them how you have only lost money on BJ and never made anything significant. Teach them about the math behind this and why everyone keeps on gambling even when they keep losing.

If they learn these they will abhor gambling and teach about it to their friends as well.

On the other hand just telling them that something is bad will not solve the problem but increase it because that will tingle their curiosity and they will start searching about it and land up in the wrong parts of the internet.

If you are playing blackjack then let her play without involving money. It’s just a card game after all and you can download same app on playstorr or appstore free without any money involvement. There’s nothing wrong on letting them play card game since she already exposed on it. Teaching her how to play the card game is much better instead of her being curious and learn it through gambling.

But I really understand the point here. It’s parents responsibility to keep away their children to gambling since it’s not for young age.

Good advice. Actually, gambling is for adults only, for people with mature minds. So it's really wrong to let your kids see you gambling, as they will become curious about what you are doing. During their early years, their curiosity about things is very high, so I personally consider it a big mistake for us parents if we let that happen. Now that the kids already know, it will be hard to explain to them because they will not forget it and might be experimental with that certain thing. As they say, prevention is always better than cure.

Well, that's relative, do you think Daniel Negreanu or Phil Gandolf (famous professional poker players) are going to hide from their children to play? From a young age they will teach them what poker is all about naturally.

Some families don't encourage gambling due to religious belief, but they play with their kids, card games or other board games featured or can be found on different casinos. I've seen parents playing casino board games like Joker with their kids, without staking any funds. It's not bad for the kid to engage in games, the only issue starts if we teach them about the monetary aspect of playing such games. In most cases, when the kid grows up and find casino games similar to the ones they played as kids, they can venture into it. The duty of the parents is to advise them to do it at the right time. On the other hand, peer pressure can affect the child to gamble before reaching the appropriate age according to their country. So, in Op's experience, it's not bad for kids to play games, it helps to keep their brain busy, brain development. I mean they play video games, casinos provide demo, or the parent can download such game into the child's mobile phone to play. Gambling is whenever money is staked when participating in a game. Not when a child is just playing a game.  Nobody wants their child to gamble money, but it's our duty as parents to figure out methods to give our kids the best treatment.  If a child watch you gamble, it's wrong to tell them that it's gamble or that it's bad to play such game. It'll leave the kid to ponder about why you said such and why you play it. That's why it's great to find such free games on appstores for the kids to play or engage with them with some card games during your leisure.

Well most persons in this generation are too reckless with parenting as we're  all in a haste to hit back at the street with is absolute  wrong. What I'm trying to say is that, most parents have this mentality  that since their child is grown regardless  of their age, they should be responsible  for themselves  maybe as a result of the higher responsibilities, so most times, they feel too comfortable doing the abnormal in the presence of their kids whichbis wrong.
I do support the fact that parents should stop gambling in presence of their kids regardless of their body size except they're 18years and of age.

I completely agree with what you say, never gamble in front of children, because indirectly the child will imitate the behavior of his father or mother in his behavior.
If we show them gambling habits, we will make them want to gamble too, especially when they get older, they will follow their father's behavior. We agree that gambling is a negative thing for children's growth and development, both in terms of their thinking and character, when they don't have scientific foundation and strong character in understanding the world of finance, I am sure that this child will be lazy, a spendthrift and definitely an impulsive gambling addict.

Several cases of my neighbors doing this, today's son who is only 12 years old is already gambling because he follows what his father does (quite logical because today's 12 year olds can already operate a cellphone), even though his father previously warned and forbade his son to do so. don't gamble, but they seem to get justification with the phrase "daddy can play, but I can't", and the child usually plays without the knowledge of his parents.

The problem is in playing EV-games that make you lose money in the long run and that brings problems to many people, but with a serious education to the children on the subject they should not have them. The education comes down to making them understand that if they want to make money with a casino they have to be the owners of the casino or investors in it, not players. With the exception of poker and some other disciplines.

I have a small daughter and she comes sometimes to me when I am spinning the slot machines in my computer,I just tell here look at how many fishes (I play Fish Eye slot most of the time) and since she is 3.5 years old she says to me with that surprised little voice, wow daddy look how many fishes  Grin so when children are at this age I doubt that inflict any damage to them.

Of course I strongly agree that when they start understanding a lot more, most likely at the age of 6-7 years old then there is a very bad habit to gamble in front of them,we should wait for them to go to sleep and only then to gamble our session.

Rhetorical question, why do you do something you don't want your children to do? You are aware that you are doing something wrong, but still, you continue with it. Even in front of the children...
In the end, they won't have to steal the money, you will give it to them willingly because you understand their need.

By the way, that's exactly the situation that happened to me, but instead of gambling some other things.
