INTERESTING RULES...NICE WEBSITE

Do such rules also help keep spambots out?

So that's why there was no 'reply' button on the page.  Been lurking a while and just signed up.

I feel restricted, but less so than what I may have felt previously had I been a newbie at the time.

Wow.  Last time I was on this site was a couple years ago and I made 4 posts.  I was insanely confused today when I logged back in and no longer could find the reply button...

I'm following this forum for months, but as I'm the opposite of "troll" I didn't have anything important to post so I havn't registered here.
Now I'm forced to troll some nonsense here first to be able to post something meaningfull elsewhere.

At least your not the only one that needs 5 posts to be able to post elsewhere, there are others that are on the same boat as you. It isn't great, but its the rules, and can't argue with that logic.

Agreed, and if you've been on the IMDB message boards, you'll know why these measures are necessary. The way various organised groups of crackpots and their sock-puppets so quickly spammed really well written threads minutes after their conception was really depressing. I began to wonder if there should be a 'posting delay' for each new thread, to encourage people to actually read them/think about their replies first! Also, 'waffling' is very far from trolling Wink

Ahh, that explains why I couldn't find the PM link!

- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.

Its there still, I was able to find it, I think it depends on if users allow you to pm them.

Does limiting a persons ability to post actually cut down on spam?

I can't help but enjoy the irony of how many people are reading that there is a post count limit and then rush to reply to the thread things like "This is a good idea," which is clearly an attempt to boost their postcount, which is somewhat undermining the effectiveness of the whole idea they're praising by encouraging spam. Ah, internet...heheh.
