Yes, this is silly. I have been reading the forum for about 3 months, thinking I would never have to reply in the short term. But when the time comes, it is frustrating.
It seems silly but here is my contribution to the thread also...
So, here's my post of spam to contributed to my post count, so that I can get out of here and talk about something more useful.
seems stupid to me to loose time posting stupid things when I just want to send a pm.....
Makes sense, playing the waiting game is better than a board full of trolling.
yea I can dig it, atleast I can use pms till my post count goes up.
Efforts to filter trolls are quite laudable, but some people lurked a while before actually creating an account on this forum. (most Bitcoiners are privacy-minded, you know 
)
Shouldn't it be an idea to lower the 4 hour threshold a bit? I lurked a lot more here before I created my account.

Unusual, but effective. Have been following this forum for a couple of months, and a measure like this really seems to be sensible regarding all the posters and flamers here.

I understand the restrictions. too many forums are filled with trolls. suppose this is one way to put a leash on em.
Good rules.
Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).
If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.
Also:
- Newbies cannot upload their own avatars.
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.
Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)
