Even night clubs these days make people queue outside and only the good looking people get let in first. Antispam measures are usually IP blocking methods. but with many people using TOR for their genuine anonymity unrelated to spamming (drug pushers etc). Which seems to be a well valued right of BTC. Stopping IP addresses of spamming trolls is just going to block many non spamming users too.

Spammers that use to do it the TOR way would just click 'use new identity' to be given a fresh new node IP. so blocking every IP is not the solution. plus its not much of a prevention. It is basically like letting in all the riff raff into a night club then throwing out anyone that looks the same whether they caused the trouble or not.. In bitcoin terms that is a large percentage use TOR. so I find queuing outside for 4 hours better, knowing I hopefully will have a relaxed atmosphere inside for many months

and on that note 2 hours to go Cheesy

Makes sense. Still a little annoying though, couldn't you just use more anti-spam measures rather than locking people out though?

having 8 hours logged and still can't post replies  Huh except the newbie sector  Tongue

What is sad is the fact that you have not read the rules.

1. you need 4 hours
2. you need >5 posts
8 hours only  satisfies one requirement.

I find it sad that sites need to go to such measures to root out trolls Angry
Seems pretty sensible, considering how bad some forums can get.

Once you get past the newbie period, you are now part of a forum that has done some attempt at filtering out trolls.  It can be more enjoyable knowing that most of the members are not here trolling.

It sounds reasonable to filter out those that are just trolling.  Smiley

Interesting, it is a strange  "CAPTCHA" I guess.  From what I see on here, it's really not stopping "trolling"  INUBA ~ I'm looking at you.

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)
