Does this make sense really? Now I will just send 5 useless posts just to get out there? Ok then.

If someone was allowed to participate in main forums, can answer this.

1)Is the account status e.g. Newbie/Activated is automatically changed, or does it depend on something else?
2)Does this count as a "post"

It seems to have some kind of algorithm where it tries to guess whether you're likely to actually be active or just happen to have one page loaded in a minimized browser for hours. If you click to other pages every so often, the time should start increasing.

LOL I've spent hours on end reading this forum not logged in. Had I taken the time to read this thread first I could have saved alot of "logged" browsing time

It is OK for me, because when I first found out, that I can not post, I had already spent more than 7 hours to read and understand what is bitcoin and mining. So the 4 hour rule makes a lot of sense to me.

In my view the current system is very bad. It is unnecessary and it deflects the most valuable contributors, namely those that also have other important things to do instead of wasting their time in this childish way.

But I doubt that any amount of opinion here will change it. One of the most prominent features of the human mind is its strong inclination to force rules on others, no matter how idiotic they are. Add self-overestimation, righteousness, and simple stupidity, and you arrive at what the world looks like, this forum included.

The world is a madhouse. I am trying to look for the few small islands of sense. The bitcoin market itself may be one of them, after the initial stupidity has eliminated itself from it by giving its money away to the more sensible traders. Smiley

I suppose this isn't a bad way of moderation. It does eliminate casual users who just want to quickly answer a question for one user though.

Hrmm, well at least this board is much more lenient than a lot of others when it comes to newbie requirements. TYVM for that

Whitelist request!

I've been mining since April 2011, currently mining @ eligius.st with 3x5850 and 1x6870 in two boxes, both running BAMT from USB.

I only have two replies on this board so far, but one of them (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.109652) was a informational post helping people to get the dependencies for Phoenix on Ubuntu last May...

I have some really nice supermicro cases (3x Redundant 1000W power supplies, SAS/SATA backplanes, 4U tower, almost new) and some 4x PCIe and 4xOpteron mobos I want to list in the marketplace, so that's my immediate motivation, but I'm a long-time reader and plan to be into the future.

Thanks!

E

(ps Also I have a single-letter username)

Well, I guess I will have to go the five post route, in any case -- tralalala.
