Personally I don't mind making posts, I'm usually making about 50 posts a day between all the forums I am currently registered on. I do see how this can stop spam and whatnot.

I feel there would be more content on the forums if you guys allowed instant posting after sign up.

There would be more words, not necessarily more content.

I suppose the restriction is necessary. But it does incentivize content-light or content-free posting while a 'newbie'.

Maybe this should be added into some kind of rules section, I could not find it quickly, and when I tried to send a PM, it only said "You are not allowed to send Private Messages", maybe there should be a link pointing to this topic when it displays that text e.g. "Please click here to read the forum rules.", etc

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted.

That only seems fair, 5 posts isn't much to prove that your a good member!

Support the bitcoin economy, use BTC merchants

I think the restriction is sensible but can cause problems if user is new to forums and would like to use BuyBitcoins.com.

Haha this make sense, although it does kind of stink since I would like to PM a member here, but I suppose as a new member, rather not get trolled randomly.
There's someone on this forum called Matthew N. Wright, and he seems to have got past the trolling firewall Cheesy

Are you saying that it'll take 10 minutes after you've reached the 4 hrs?

The rules are sensible: it forces newbies to learn about bitcoin properly.  Wink
Not necessarily, it might just force them to make low content posts in this forum before they can use the forums they want to use.

I understand why you do this, but this kinda sucks for someone like me who tends to lurk forever before registering, and doesn't bother registering until I have something worthwhile to add.
