Well that makes alot of sense now I can't wait looking forward to opening up a shop for MMO games that accepts bitcoins as a form of payment for the currency in the MMORPG games. I'll be supporting various MMORPGS!

Virtual cash for virtual items Smiley Sounds like a great idea to me! What MMORPG's are you planning on supporting?

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending

Do you realize that you could remove about 65% of your spam if you simply banned Matthew N. Wright and Phinnaeus Gage?

Edit: After reading more of both of their posts it seems like they are paid forum plugs to keep the activity hot. One is overly nice and one overly rude but both work together on occasion.

Matthew, who's standing right next to me said hi. We both have to leave now to go and cash our checks from BitcoinTalk. Thank you kindly, JennyHill, for your comments.

One more thing, Matthew said... (I better not repeat that!)

~Bruno~

Full Disclosure: I will be paid a quarter for this post. After a few more posts today, thus more quarter, I'll be able to afford a can of spam. Let's go, Matthew, before the bank closes.

I don't mind the 5 post rule, I'm already up to two!
Just have to be logged in for another 3 hours =(
I suppose these kinds of rules are different to each forum based on the problems they have.
I'm happy to wait, means less chance of poo poo faces being on here =)

yes, this 5 post rule is not so good. I understand the 4 hours rule, but why the 5 posts??

I don't mind these rules.

I just found out I can't post in the forum yet except this section Sad

What do I need to do to be considered "non-newbie"?

I have owned a vbulletin forum and can attest to the amount of spam and moderation it takes to clean it up.  So, these rules are probably good.  If I had used them, I probably wouldn't have pulled the plug on my forum.

I see what you did thar!
Obviously, the last place I thought of looking is the newbie thread on topics like "I just made an account, why can't I post?" cos I'm awesome like that!
Anyway, I'm just another guy on this forum, trying to get more information on all this stuff.

I see things I like here, and I think I can help people with these things.

Thanks for having a forum for me to rummage around in =D

i still think an automated private message welcoming and reiterating the requirements would be helpful.

Agreed, was lost for a while not knowing why I could not post....

Harsh, but fair.

But it does mean a lot of meaningless posts...

Well, the newbie restriction is very annoying ...
I posted also in the Whitelist reqest thread but that didn't help ...
So I'm forced to post 5 posts without sense ...
This just makes the things only worse as every new member has to create new junk stuff to become valid member ...
Don't you think that you might reconsider the rules?
Or create "junk" thread where everybody will post their 5 initial posts? ... But then why that? ... :-(

Yes painful but they prbly have a good reason

Well I see one advantage ... and that's the fact that all the created "junk" is located in the newbie section ... ;-)
You and everyone else who uses this line of reasoning have two major unstated premises.

1. That even after conditioning users that post quality doesn't matter that they will suddenly start posting nothing but quality after 5 posts.
2. That the first 5 posts of a new user are always "junk" and hence should be kept in this forum.

I reject both of those premises.

I would like to see statistics on how many users on this forum have less than 5 posts. On some forums, there is an advantage to signing up even if you have no intention of posting. You can change useful forum settings such as posts per page or PM other members for direct conversations. That's isn't the case with this forum as the first isn't implemented or available and the second is locked out to new users.

Now this is a newbie post with some quality to it.  It doesn't really matter what your opinionof our methods are, of course; but at least you have one.
