New person here so bear with me, But what do you guys think is the safest way of purchasing NXT?

If you want to buy with fiat check https://www.ccedk.com/

Young but smooth exchange.

If you have either...

USD
EUR
GBP
SEK
NOK
DKK
CHF

then you can go from those currencies to Nxt in one step. It is new so you may find there aren't enough orders to get the amount you want. Just put your orders in and I'll drum up some people to sell to you  Grin

You can then hold them on the exchange and do nothing. Or create and account and move the NXT there. I am told you can do this here:  http://www.secureae.com/ but I have never tried it myself (it is trustworthy in that Wesley, the main client developer, created the front end for the website so your password never leaves your comupter).

N.B you can also buy with BTC and LTC if you have it.

I came across someone today who thought Nxt didn't have a whitepaper so just wanted to bump that...

Nxt has a whitepaper! And a paper that describes the Math of Forging written by a retired Maths Professor. And others and lots of articles

Check them out below  Grin

This is awesome. Now when someone tries to make up BS about NXT related math, we can point to this paper! Smiley

Guys:
Just ran across this:
Hey everyone,

We have had quite a bit of interest in our Coin Representative program thus far, but we still need more participation.  At this point, we have Representatives from over 10 currencies, and some currencies actually have up to 3 representatives (which will likely be our limit).

Coin Brief's Coin Representative program is a system we are building to give members of the various digital currency communities a voice to present the positive points, advances, technical details, news, etc. about their currency of choice.  Coin Brief's staff is working to cover as many currencies as we can, with a focus on Bitcoin, but it would be impossible for us to adequately understand, explain, and write about every digital currency that exists.

If you would like to be a representative for a digital currency, and are an active member of that community, or just would like to know more about the Coin Representative program, please check out these pages:
http://coinbrief.net/coin-brief-needs-coin-reps/
http://coinbrief.net/coin-brief-coin-representatives/
http://coinbrief.net/coinreps/rules/

If anyone has any questions, or would like to apply, please contact me on here via PM or email Coin Brief at [email protected]

Anyone who isn't me or Damelon want to check this out/sign up as NXT representative?

joefox already is doing this Smiley

Great, I've let Joefox know >>>> https://nxtforum.org/nxt-whitepaper/completely-revamped-nxt-whitepaper-draft/msg72059#msg72059

But I think idea was just to represent Nxt in its current form (i.e. economic clustering isn't in yet IIRC) so gets updated with each new release.

There is no message encryption in the current version.

Coming in next release.....probably Friday.

I know, in that case encryption algorithm in white paper is wrong. Nxt never implemented that version. It was changed to ECDH for key exchange and AES for encryption,

I looked at the whitepaper, scrolling down to 2.5.1 Encryption Algorithm and it's already wrong/outdated.

Nxt uses ECDH for key exchange and AES for encrypting messages between users. That's how it's done in the upcoming beta version, and messages can be attached to all transactions just like Nem

That's the first "IF".  It took a literal decade plus to get all the bugs in Java and C++ worked out, and to educate a generation of developers to program in that language.  Who is going to program in Ethereum, to bring all the "flexible stuff" you want, if nobody is versed in the language?

"If" Ethereum comes out.. what then?  Maidsafe barely grew any capitalization beyond its' IPO.  Mastercoin, which was the first grand IPO, is now a dying stagnating coin.   Ethereum is stuck being this ponzi scheme ran by a few wealthy investors that will likely just stagnate.  There's no incentive for subsequent investors to come in.

Vitalik and the Ethereum crew get nervous and/or refuse to answer questions when other 2.0 coins are mentioned.  I bet even NODE is better than Ethereum, LOL.

Ethereum being PoW / PoS hybrid (emphasis on the former) technically makes it a generation 1.5 coin in my book, even with the new 'programming language' that probably won't be put to much use until 10 years down the line.

Not a single thing you  posted is based on facts, just pure speculation, envoy, and wishful thinking.

☕ NXT-4BTE-8Y4K-CDS2-6TB82
What will differentiate NXT once Ethereum comes out?

Does NXT have any unique plans that cannot be solved easier on the more flexible Ethereum platform?

Indeed.

1) Smart Contracts -- Not Turing-complete but covers basically 99% of all smart contract problems (trust me contract writers do not need Turing-completeness)
2) Automated Transactions -- Turing-completeness addition to Nxt; for the 1% other applications that require more elaborate algorithms

Btw. more flexible is not easier. In fact, most of the time it is the other way round. With more flexibility comes a steeper learning curve and bigger amount of mistakes made.

I hope you realize that there is NO END to feeding the Ego...  make sure to tell Come-from-Beyond too...   Roll Eyes

I am sorry, this is not about ego. This is about being pragmatic and I do not see why we cannot have parallel solutions.

Of course, Turing-completeness means that it can do everything one could possibly do and therefore includes the functionality of Smart Contracts. However, the pragmatic approach right now is to have Smart Contract to cover the majority of the pressing use cases.

After that, Turing-completeness will handle the outstanding use cases.
