Pakistan on the other hand has the reputation to win close matches in the past but the only issue is that they are not consistent in their performance, one day they play like champions the next day they play as if they do not belong in the tournament.
I do not remember Pakistan winning close matches outside the sub continent but one thing i can say is that i did not expect Pakistan winning the match against South Africa in their own turf and i am curious to see whether Pakistan can follow up with that victory and win again and i am not denying Babar Azam as he is an exceptional talent and the ease in which he was finding the gaps was incredible.

The advantage for Pakistan was that South Africa chokes even more in such situations. The South African bowlers took 4 quick wickets and that put Pakistan in trouble. But after that they surprisingly gave away the advantage. One more wicket at that point could have changed the outcome of the match.
South Africa has a reputation of chocking in tight situations but that was in high profile ICC tournaments and it started when they returned to International tournaments in 1992 World Cup and they did not choke that time but they were extremely unlucky because of a shady calculation for rain interruption during that tournament and that unlucky demon followed in the rest of the world cups and major tournaments as well.

I think both the teams are too much weak and needs a lot of grooming. After seeing the first match, we cannot say which team performed well than the other. We can only compare which team made less mistakes. I think both the teams lacks the mental strength which is very important if you want to win matches.

That would have been worse if the Pakistani team has lost the match when they were in a good winning situation. Anyways the win is a win. no matter how it comes and it will bring confidence for them in the next match too. Now South Africa will be under pressure playing the do and die match to save the series in their home ground.

Good that Pakistan managed to win in the end. Else we would have seen a repeat of this:

Fine drama in last 2 overs, it looked like both team wanted to throw the game from the strong position. Its really hard to be a pakistani fan, pata nahi kitne heart attack dete hai yeh.

You have to wait for the last ball to be sure if Pakistani are a winner or not. They need only 3 runs in the last over and they did not score a single run in the first 4 balls of the last over making the equation as difficult as 3 runs from 2 balls.  Undecided

Those who bet on a pakistani team win would surely had the heart attack in that last over.

If they had lost the match then these two guys would have been in the headlines of all the mainstream media channels in Pakistan. That was a very close finish. Another record was created yesterday now Babar azam holds the recored of fastest 13 century overtaking amla and Kohli.

Pakistan do have a habit of losing close matches, and that too from a winning position. However this time they managed to win, thanks to the composure shown by Faheem Ashraf in the final over and the incompetence of the South African captain and the bowler. Pakistan were 186/1 at one stage, before collapsing to 203/5. Their middle order was just clueless against the raw pace of Anrich Nortje. But Nortje didn't got any support from the other bowlers.

What an amazing match... in the end Pakistan managed to win with 0 balls remaining.
Pakistan always like to surprise the cricket fans, i was watching the last overs and i was thinking about betting on South Africa to win the match as you never know when Pakistan would collapse after some strong performance and once the last over started i thought they are going to mess this one as they lost a wicket and then the player who was batting was leaving the ball  Grin.

I thought for a moment that the match was fixed and hence they are playing according to their plans leaving the ball when the match situation is really tight rather than rotating the strike and win the game rather they extended the game to the last ball which was insane Cheesy.

What an amazing match... in the end Pakistan managed to win with 0 balls remaining. The partnership between Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq provided a strong base for Pakistani chase, but then quick wickets by Anrich Nortje put them in backfoot. Temba Bavuma's first outing as the white-ball captain ends with a loss. BTW, did anyone noticed the jersey of both the teams? They looked so similar and I had difficulty in differentiating both the teams.

Pakistan needs another 56 runs in next 54 balls in order to win. PAK have five wickets in hand, for now the remaining target easily attainable. But, before that Terrific innings made by Babar Azam, which is absolutely brilliant. His pull and drive are a treat to watch.
Pakistan should win the match as they need just 36 runs from 42 balls but since Pakistan is known to give us surprises you cannot fully believe that they can score the winnings runs as i have seen them loosing wickets in a pile and turn the match upside down. Babar Azam played an incredible innings along with Imam ul Haq and Rassie van der Dussen played the lone innings for South Africa and now a days if you see a total below 300 runs it looks like a achievable target  Cheesy.

South Africa seems to be recovering from the collapse they had in their ODI match against South Africa.

I think you mean South Africa against Pakistan.  Smiley
Even though south africa recovered well and managed to make 274 runs but it seems that these runs are not enough as Pakistan are 138 runs in only 26 overs and can easily win this match.

Pakistan needs 55 runs from 51 balls they still have wickets and they can easily win this match. Khan and Rizwan need to stick to the wicket till the end. If Pakistan loses any wicket now then SA will have the upper hand. It was because of Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller that SA was able to score 273. Overall an interesting match and I expect it to be a close one too in the end.

South Africa seems to be recovering from the collapse they had in their ODI match against South Africa. They are now 166/4, which is a big improvement form their earlier position of 55/4. Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller have made half centuries. Still, if they want to out up a score in the vicinity of 300, one of these two needs to score a century. Temba Bavuma got out for just 1, in his first match as the ODI captain.

Yes. They get paid the full amount (as per the contract), even if they don't get selected for even a single match. But the condition is that they should be "available for selection". If someone is injured, or unavailable due to some other reason (similar to what happened to Suresh Raina in IPL 2020), then they need to forfeit the salary. So for players such as Tahir, it means that they may get money for not doing much work.  Grin
That is awesome to get picked by any team in the IPL throwing insane amount of money and with the restrictions of only 4 foreign players allowed in a team the rest of the players will be earning the money even without playing and the only problem i see is that they get rusty if they are not getting match practice and especially with retired players they will not last longer if they are warning the bench most of the time.

There should be some sort of player rotation. We have seen a lot of injury issues in the IPL, partly due to very high workload. The teams tend to include their star performers for consecutive matches without any rest, because every match is important. And it's not just the overseas players who struggle to get opportunity. In percentagewise, the Indian players get even chances. Out of the 8 overseas players, 4 can be included in the playing XI (50%). But the same for Indian players is less than that (7 out of 17 players).

@Sithara007 playing constant cricket is a small price you pay for participating in IPL, and that’s why these player’s are heavily compensated. Also player’s are constantly pulling out of IPL with Hazelwood the latest player opting to give it a miss, and furthermore how many player’s do you think will opt out of IPL this year?.

From what I have said, Moin Ali will be considered as one of the key players of CSK. CSK needs a player like him to strengthen the middle order. Moin Ali will be able to take the helm of the team. And he’s a good enough spin bowler. However, if he fails to perform as expected as a batsman, then Imran Tahir will play as his replacement. But I hope Moin Ali will not disappoint us. He will play well in the IPL this time.

Obviously when CSK is spending such a huge amount on him, they will be including him in the playing XI for most (if not all) of their matches. Unfortunately, that is bad news for players such as Tahir (and some of the pace bowlers), because Moeen eats up another valuable overseas slot. But that is how franchise cricket works. When no one expects an opening, suddenly someone gets injured and a slot is made available. And the replacement player performs so good that it is impossible to drop him. Last season, it happened a few times - Lockie Ferguson, Chris Morris.etc.

The inclusion of two foreign spinners in the squad is nothing but nonsense. When they have great native spinners like Jadeja. I think a foreign pace bowler should be included in the squad. And foreign batsmen should be given a chance. Foreign batsmen perform somewhat better than domestic batsmen. On the other hand, Moin Ali has been bought at a much higher price. Looks like he'll be in the squad. If he fails to perform as expected, Imran Tahir will be given a chance.
Tahir is just unlucky. He is one of the best spinners in T20 format, despite his age. But CSK is one of the teams that depends heavily on overseas players and therefore it is difficult to accommodate him. Also, middle order is the weak spot for CSK and they need someone like Moeen to strengthen them in that component. For most of the other franchises, Tahir would be an automatic selection for the playing XI. But as I said, he is just unlucky to be with the CSK.
