Well it's a long debate when it comes to matters related to religion or politics. What can we say  Lips sealed . It's gonna pile up with all different opinions and at worse can lead to clash if they disagree to extreme degree. It will stop once it is no longer the matter is out of focus (whether it be here or in other platforms)

Sports is supposed to be an uniting force for various ethnicities and religions, and that's the reason why so many people are upset when they hear about discrimination occurring in the cricket circles. When someone represents his nation in a particular sport, he is a representative of his country, and therefore his actions need to be more responsible. PCB needs to settle this dispute once and forever, by handing out exemplary punishment to those who are behind this. Else, it is going to affect their reputation in the long term.

Yeah the topic went global with discrimination, racism and now reached authoritarianism  Cheesy, i understand why certain players came out and talked about it well after retirement because that could have affected their cricket career and you cannot fight against the cricket board you are contracted not only the big boards but any smaller nations too and expect to play for them and only West Indies players have defied those odds to a certain extend.

But from ICC only fines will be imposed no bans or no strict rules to be honest. If we turn back the history of cricket lot more ugly things were happened but now cricket has been called as gentlemen game so players have to be responsible to keep that name for their game.

Other sports bodies such as FIFA are being run by former players. But ICC and the national cricket boards are mostly controlled by politicians and businessmen. BCCI is nominally under Sourav Ganguly, but the real power lies with people such as N Srinivasan, Jay Shah, Anurag Thakur and Sharad Pawar. These people always think about money first and have no incentive to make cricket a popular sport.

This has picked up on a big time and everywhere it is going about this news only. This could be a turning point in Pakistan cricket board if such things gets clarified and verified this would put them under huge pressure and ICC can also take action against the board if this has being happening to players.

Some of the sports bodies (such as FIFA and FIBA) have very tough policies against racial and religious discrimination. The ICC is having a more relaxed or lenient approach regarding the same, and therefore I should say that Pakistan is quite lucky. FIFA has handed down 1-year and 2-year bans for just racial abuse by spectators during soccer matches. And I believe that this is much more serious.

Seriously do you expect any changes in the entire concept as they follow religion rigorously and do you think that the ICC will intervene in these matter, i highly doubt that. Sure it is unfortunate to hear these things and i am sure these sort of discrimination existed, if not he will not come out now and say these things publicly just to create a controversy.

These are very serious allegations. No one would be having an issue with these players following their religion rigorously. But they can't use it to justify discriminating someone on the basis of religion. Refusing to eat in the presence of someone, just because he is from another religion is not compatible with modern human ethos. The PCB would be wrong, if they sweep this issue under the carpet. IMO, they should take strict action against the players who are responsible for this.

FIFA is proactive when it comes to spectator agitation but i have not heard about any strict action taken by the ICC, one thing they are struggling to get spectators for Test matches and i do not think they will put a ban on spectators but FIFA is global and there is no shortage of fans.

Shoaib clarified that he was talking about one or two individuals who held such discriminatory views against Kaneria and not against the entire team. Anyway, these sort of controversies are not going to do anything good for the Pakistan cricket, especially at a time when the national team is not performing well. Religion has no place in sports and those who try to mix the two should be kept out (irrespective of the positions they hold). The PCB should launch an inquiry in to these allegations, and punish the perpetrators if these claims are proven.

From what I heard, Shoaib Akhtar had a personal grudge against certain senior players (especially Inzamam ul Haq and Saeed Anwar), due to religion-related issues. Akhtar was known as non-religious and these senior players were not happy with his lack of religiosity. There used to be a lot of bad blood, after Akhtar refused to take part in Namaaz ceremony, organized by Inzy. Even the Christian player (Yousaf Youhana) used to participate in these sessions, but both Kaneria and Akhtar would refuse.
Why should Shoaib Akhtar having a grudge for not participating, it is a personal choice to begin with but if he is a loose cannon and not following them then they should have a grudge against Shoaib Akhtar as they are not participating in their religious functions, since Akhtar started a youtube channel he needs contents to talk about and may be that is the reason he touched this controversial topic as it will get huge coverage and advertisement for his channel and thereby more visitors and that means more money Wink.

I agree it is all about his YouTube channel!
Money makes a fool rich and a rich fool. The story ends here.

I am sorry to start such a shit topic here.

Who listens to what Shoaib Akhtar has to say anyway, as he has a habit of saying such controversial statements only to back down later on. Now about his recent comments you’ll are correct it was a nice publicity stunt, but once he realised he had touched a nerve he immediately backed down but now it’s too late because the damage is already done.

I have a hard time finding a solution otherwise. And i am in favor of more team in T-20 WC (not 50-50) as in T-20 format every team has a good chance of winning the game, it might be financial suicide if top team gets out early (like 2007) but all cricketing boards/ICC should take this risk or stop their so called lip service. If its not happening then i don't see much global adoption of cricket in next 20-40 years.

Globalization of cricket was the brainchild of Jagmohan Dalmiya, when he was the President of the International Cricket Council (1997-2000). His policies were reversed immediately in 2000, once Malcolm Gray became the next president. And for the next two decades, the situation has not changed. The current leadership of ICC has no interest in popularizing the game. And adding cricket to Olympics would have helped the globalization much more than adding minnows to the CWC, but once again the current leadership of ICC is not interested in the idea.

What's with this new controversy started by shoaib akhtar?

@Sithara007 is on target there was too many problems in presence of Inzamam ul Haq as he was with full control and if someone going against him there was no room for this player Inzamam ul Haq#s this attitude create too many problems and differences between players Shoaib Akhtar is also hungry for media advertising so he also create too many dramas.
@JSRAW you are good we no need to talk about this shit if some one want then surely he need to start his own thread in Politics & Society.

I think no one likes overdose of World cup or annual ICC tournament. if ICC is up for experiment and really thinking about World Cricket then they should take risk on 16-20 team T-20 WC or new territory of T-10 Cricket.

Increasing the number of teams in the CWC is out of question. In the ODI world cup, the number of teams have been reduced to 10 from 16, and in the T20 World Cup, it have been reduced to 12 (I am excluding the "qualifier" phase of the T20 world cup). BCCI/ECB want to reduce this number further and in the near future we may never see the minnows playing in the world cup.

What's with this new controversy started by shoaib akhtar?

Is he looking for an opportunity to work in India or why was the religion card played when the discussion was related to bowling?

Why are these so called gentelmen trying to politicise the game. There are drawbacks to every game but that does not mean you come out after so many years now.

I think this was a deliberate attempt by the retired fast bowler to be in the limelight.

What do you guys think?
