Looks like its been a little over a year since the last Bitfinex Audit. Any word if/when another will be happening?

We will have an announcement in regard to this in the coming weeks. It will be a pretty big announcement and we're looking forward to it and hearing what the community thinks.

Its been a couple of weeks. Any progress?

Hi there! Something is wrong with btc withdrawals. I cant withdraw my btc. It is processing more than 1.5 hour and nothing more. Sad

Hot wallet was empty. It is very unusual.

It does happen sometimes i have found but generally doesnt take long and you always get your funds Smiley.  When i used to move alot of coin in and out i found maybe 2% of time had to wait a couple hours.  Still its pretty good.

It would be better if payments are moved from taker to lender at the moment the swap closes.

Might make more sense, but it would play hell with my attempts to keep track.

and I imagine it might also be quite a significant architectural re-shuffle on their end.

Didnt explain someone in here before that this has to do with bitfinex running a cron-job only each hour? This job then checks if a swap ended and closes it.

If its handled that way then i think its not good. I cant even see how they will calculate it in a fair way if your swap is hold longer than both parties thought.

I think it has to be more frequently than once per hour - I've not seen longer than about 20mins.

As for calculating the returns... I keep unnecessarily close track of what I expect to receive, and calculating it as if the return is paid for the exact duration of the swap has been successful enough to predict the daily payment to within a few cents of the actual figure (and it isn't all in one direction so it also averages out over time)

So it averages out. The only downside of this would be if someone gives or takes an unusual big swap. Either the taker or the lender will have a disadvantage then. Though that might only be 1/50 of the amount.

Im not sure if the waiting time is the best strategy to lower server use.

I would prefer a more dynamic system anyway. Its not needed to only pay out once a day. Doesnt the taker have to pay instantly too? Otherwise he would be able to play with money he doesnt own anymore. It would be better if payments are moved from taker to lender at the moment the swap closes.

Had the same thing some days ago. It's a bug most likely caused by daylight saving times. I've posted about it here within the last 14 days.

It's actually -9 minutes what you're seeing (but displayed as +9) and counting to -60. I'm 99% sure that you'll have the money back in 51 minutes (counted from your 9 minutes)

I've seen the same thing at various times, but with no apparent connection to daylight savings and not as neat as exactly an hour.

It's the same display bug where negative numbers display as positive, but I'm pretty sure it can also happen in the space of time between when the swap was (strictly speaking) supposed to end, and when a scheduled "update/check all the swaps" batch job runs to actually close it.

However I have another weird bug.

A swap was about to expire 5 minutes ago and everything seemed to be working fine. But at the expected closing time (it was a 30-day swap) the swap isn´t released and instead
the "expire in" display is starting to count up again.
(before expiring it was counting down and now it started to count up...)

Of course I have auto-renew disabled.

Has anyone ever had this weird bug before? When is the money from the swap gonna be released to my account?
(I´ve used bitfinex for over a year now and never had this happen before)

current display a few minutes later:
"expire in 9 minutes"

You were completely right about everything, the swap was released exactly one hour later.
In hindsight I should have thought of daylight saving times myself  Grin

I've been having fairly consistent problems accessing bitfinex for a while now, is this true for everyone?

Yes me too. But If you wait the URL is becoming like this "bitfinex.com.com" it's weird.
Access it from a search engine (Google or whatever).
I will mail their support.

I have the same weird error where it changes to "bitfinex.com.com"  Huh

However I have bookmarked Bitfinex now and when I try to access the website using
the bookmark it works flawlessly.

We are aware of this issue and have fixed it. If you typed in bitfinex.com it would redirect to bitfinex.com.com. If you typed in https://www.bitfinex.com there weren't any issues, that's probably why the bookmark wasn't having any issues.

thank you for fixing it!

Hi Zane,

I looked at the Bitfinex LTC/USD chart and I am disturbed to see that is no speed bumps for LTC. To be clear, I am referring to the sudden drop on April 9th, about 4:25 AM EST. The price dropped from about $1.57 to about $0.98 or a -37.57% drop in the span of ~2-5 minutes. Why speed bumps for BTC and not LTC? Makes me lose a bit of confidence in the platform seeing that and I don't even trade LTC (nor am I bullish on either BTC or LTC right now to consider a long). Are there still speed bumps for BTC/USD? In the event it doesn't function as intended, does that mean Bitfinex will roll back trades?

Thank you for your time

In the google hangout interview this week, they said there's still a mechanism that throttles orders which would move the market by more than 10% but that this throttle wasnt needed in months (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mk4Dl4aaBuo , was somewhere in the 2nd half iirc ). But that was about BTC/USD. They didnt say anything about LTC in that regard.

Thank you for the link! I just don't think it is much of a stretch to include the same throttling for all coins on the platform if they want to avoid having their lenders actually lose money on some serious cascading margin calls.

We don't want to have to throttle orders and only do so in extreme cases. We haven't throttled any orders since before January. I think the important thing to remember here is that the market moving quickly in one direction alone doesn't warrant intervention via throttling. What I was referring to in the video linked above was that we would only throttle an order(as in singular) that would move the makret ~10%. If the market takes a quick downturn and there aren't any of these types of orders, we won't step in to throttle anything as the market is collectively moving downwards, not one extreme order.

If there's anything you would like me to clarify, please let me know.

Hi!
Does bitfinex provide public historical data? I found documentation page https://www.bitfinex.com/pages/api but it seems timestamp parameter for GET /trades/:symbol request does not work at all.

Yes we do. Can you send me a pm with more information about the call you were using and what the response was? I'll look into it.

Waiting for a little bit and send one single transaction to several recipients, use micropayment channels or send these payments with 0/low fees attached yourself if you don't really care that they might not end up in the block chain at all.

Question to bitfinex support, to deposit bitcoin and withdraw is free, if i start to do like 100 micro withdraws per day to various different addresses is that a problem with you guys?   - The purpose is for games, to send bitcoin with zero fee makes it easier.

Please don't (ab)use an exchange as a web wallet, also there is no API to do withdraws...

There are better services, methods and clients to send microtransactions on the blockchain.

Well thats why i asked Smiley i wont use finex then.  What methods/clients do you suggest for large amounts of micro transactions?
