Have you seen the slap ritual of a coach before his athlete goes into fight?
This is now viral: Olympic athlete slapped in face by coach in pre-fight ‘ritual’

To be honest, when I opened the link, I expected to see something more shocking. This is a common spanking and in many sports it is a routine phenomenon (for example, in weightlifting) associated with the fact that the athlete is thus trying to get an additional rush of adrenaline. Maybe this video went viral because of the preliminary shaking that the trainer did to begin with?

Why does Indonesia have such a low sports achievement at the Olympics as well as at the SEA Games? I mean, your capital, Jakarta, has almost triple the population of my entire country, and we've already won two golds and a few bronze medals. We're also very good at the Winter Olympics.

Do you really want to discuss that ? Having high population isnt enough to have a future Olympic champion. I might be wrong, but Indonesia was never counted as super rich country. Even if there is a future Olympic champion somewhere in the country, a lot of money must be invested in training process, support and etc. Frankly, I have never heard about any famous coaches from Indonesia. That means athletest most probably need to train abroad, or hire a coach.

In my country, all the expenses on sport (training, uniform, coach, renting a place to train and etc) are paid by parents. There is almost no support from country. The country or the government involves only when you get a medal and money price - they immediately ask to pay the tax.

It does not matter where you live. What matters is money. You can live on the moon, train there and be the Olympic gold medallist. But money is only 50% of the success. For example UAE has all the money of the world, but they are rarely seen on the pedestal.

Tight competition in Tokyo Olympics, I am happy my country has won 3 medals even though it is only one silver and two bronze medals. It's all in Weightlifting. I hope for the next medal is from badminton. Because the two Indonesian representatives in the men's doubles are both group winners, so they have the opportunity to present the All Indonesian Final. Although previously they had to compete in the quarterfinals and semifinals for the final match.

In 2016, Germany confidently won the 5th place in the overall standings and the gap from the 4th place was minimal. I think this year they should not perform much worse. And I do not think that holding the Olympics in Germany can change global trends - most likely, young people choose other areas in order to exert their efforts and sports, due to supercompetitiveness, are not a priority now.

Thats quite interesting when another country try to guess what position they will be, meanwhile my country I dunno and I dont have any guess for their position because another teams are better than our athletes. We are just waiting for the badminton players go final. Until now they show a great performance and we hope they will get 1st position as result for their workhard.

The overall medal standings are evidence of a certain level of sports and theoretically there is something to be proud of, but in my opinion, these are mostly the interests of officials. Our interest is to focus on understanding specific sports and make the right bet when the opportunity arises  Cheesy

Despite the fact that our Government did make a mistake of not supporting well financially, mentally, and emotionally of our athletes, she is one of a great example of pushing her dreams to beyond of anyone's expectations including herself. The prices she owns now is really deserving for her hard work to prove that she can do it and for her country. I am proud for her achievements. I hope that this would be a lesson for our Government. I hope they will be now supporting our athletes very well for the next Olympic.

Kudos to those people who supports her and Kudos to Filipinos who never doubt her potential.

With that huge amount of money she's going to received for sure it will encourage more athletes to pursue their dreams.

The government is not denying that they really lack of support for the Pinoy athletes it's given and even so it's not a reason not
to perform just how Hidilyn did, and with the efforts he made everything was been paid off now.

Fame and lots of money she's now secure together with all her love ones.. What a life!

Lol, so what does the Philippine government not supporting their athletes? I guess it has something to do with politics as Diaz was even mentioned as a anti-Duterte supporter. But she denied it already and then focus on training with some private fundings (her begging).

And now that her life has made a U-turn, she has houses, money and hopefully the government should learn from it. They should support specially athletes that will give glory to their country.

Hehe what the actual F! It can be very frustrating to lose but it's never wise to harm your opponent outside the rules. Do they have some kind of beef before? Not saying it's okay but it would make more sense if the two knew each other and had some rivalry.

Unlike the case with professional boxing, in Olympic the athletes are not just representing themselves, but their country as well. And in a tournament which is known for its sportsmanship, this sort of behavior is not encouraged. Players should take the results in a positive light. Participation is more important than winning a medal. If the boxer failed this time, he will get another opportunity in three years time (in 2024). Rather than admitting his defeat, he went on to attack his opponent, which is really disgusting.

Our government supported her, it's just that the media is putting some fire about that time when she has asked for some more funds. When she has asked for that, there's a response from the government and helped her reached the private sectors that also helped her for her training and preparation of 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It's not that really on the media and that's why people are thinking that she was ignored and the government did nothing but the fact is that there's additional help and fund that has been reached to her when she has asked for it. I don't like the government's bad examples but if there's a credit, put it where the credit is due and the media didn't do that. But anyway, it's just too being politicized and when there's an issue like this, there's also going to be a long discussion but let's forget about that and salute to all of those medalists from all participating countries.

I finally lost my first bet on Olympics this year. I wagered on Turkey to win against Italy in women volleyball but they ended up losing in a big fashion. After beating China which was the best team of the whole tournament, I was thinking maybe there was a chance that they could beat everyone, because beating a big team usually indicates how great you are as well. However as it turns out just like their football team that managed to beat France and Netherlands and then lose every game in euros, the volleyball team seems the same as well, beating a great team and then start losing afterwards. Maybe it is a national thing I do not know.

In the end it is just one loss for me and I am doing fine, especially after such a bad euro cup wagering for me that ended with finally a break even on the very last game, I am happy that Olympics is doing much better for my bankroll.

Not a very intelligent thing to do, when the whole world is suffering from the pandemic. What was he trying to do here? Was he looking for some cheap publicity? Anyway, now he (Youness Baalla) can practice his biting skills at home, because in all probability he will not be allowed in to the boxing ring again. Or maybe he can try his luck in MMA. These sort of guys are in good demand in that sport. BTW, I head that Baalla is now playing the race card. He is claiming that he is being punished for being black.

He should be ban from this sport, that is a disgrace to his country, this is Olympics, the world is watching and anyone fighter represents his country, so whatever his action will reflect on the reputation of his country, that's so stupid, being too emotional instead of using his mind.

Fame and lots of money she's now secure together with all her love ones.. What a life!

Thats quite interesting when another country try to guess what position they will be

My country (UK) will I think do worse than usual. We have had some success in swimming in these games, an event where we are normally weak. But in other sports there have been quite a few disappointments, and our overall team is I think weaker than has been the case in the last few Olympics. Athletics in particular, we don't have a lot of serious contenders for golds. Once cycling hits the velodrome we have a chance to increase our medal count - but whilst the UK used to be by far the best velodrome nation, in recent years other nations have caught up a lot, and there is no longer the situation that UK just sweep to gold every time.

The Japanese are fortunate to have such a ratio between gold medals and the total number of medals won. In this spreadsheet, Germany's 10th place surprises me, they have few gold medals and few won awards in general. It's too early to talk about the final results, but the intermediate data is very weak, I wonder if Germany can seriously improve its position?

Germany just made it into the top 10 yesterday because of 2 gold medals won, before that we were even much further behind 2 gold medals mean a lot in the lower region of the table. There are only a few sports where Germany is very dominant and a medal, or even a gold medal, is pretty much assured. Off the top of my head, I can only think of dressage, where the team won the gold medal again yesterday and where they are also the favourites for the gold medal in the individual classification today. I think Germany needs to host the Olympics again so that the focus is more on mass sports again and it also gets more support from politics and companies.

In 2016, Germany confidently won the 5th place in the overall standings and the gap from the 4th place was minimal. I think this year they should not perform much worse. And the reward now is estimated at Php 50 Million + several perks and benefits from other companies including an own condo unit.
As of July 30, her estimated benefits totaled PHP 40.7M in cash, lifetime fuel supply, unlimited free flights, a condo and a house and lot worth PHP 14M each, and any other substantial advantages associated with food and transportation. That's a lot of money, and we all know she deserves it after years of hard work.

Moreover, I also find this picture intriguing and at the same time ecstatic.

Just my opinion, Liao Qiuyun of China was put under a lot of pressure by her management team or even the government to rise to the top. Or perhaps she was coerced into lifting a certain weight due to her opponents' underestimation, which caused her to be disappointed. As far as I know, Qiuyun holds the record for lifting 129kg, which is more than Hidilyn's weight of 127kg.

She's not a sore loser, but rather a woman who is concerned about what she might hear from the government.

I'm ecstatic since Philippines and Kazakhstan are getting along so well celebrating their victory.

Despite the fact that our Government did make a mistake of not supporting well financially, mentally, and emotionally of our athletes, she is one of a great example of pushing her dreams to beyond of anyone's expectations including herself.
