Thompson-Hera ran the 2nd fastest 100 meters in history (10.61 seconds), second only to FloJo record breaking 10.62 set in 1988. Only one US women in the finals and she finished 7th. Used to be dominated by American female sprinters but Jamaica has been taking control of this event for the last 3 to 4 Olympics if I'm not mistaken.

Wow, those Jamaican ladies can run really fast! Cheesy

Congrats to @FastElaine and Team Jamaica! A well deserved victory.

Sorry to say that  more than 300+ athletes already affected by COVID-19 hence they can't participate in the Olympics. What's a miserable conditions for them !!! All hops and attempts vain in coronavirus pandemic situations.
Yeah, there's a spike during the Olympics in Tokyo but the organizers have denied that it's not because of the games that has been held. But obviously, there's really the connection of the surge because of the Olympics.

Olympic organizers deny that Tokyo's record spike in COVID-19 infections this week is due to the Games, and that Olympic infections are adding strain on Japan's medical system. "As far as I know there are no infections spreading to the Japanese public from the Olympic movement. There is not a single severe case among our stakeholders," says IOC spokesperson Mark Adams.
This is very unfortunate for those athletes who can't compete with their games. But from outside view, it seems the olympics is doing great, many are getting their gold for the first time and beating the known veterans. I'm glad that this event push thru despite of so many troubles along the way. It is understandable that a lot of athletes are also going thru their mental health problem here. I hope they can recover easily and align themselves again with their goals in life. What surprised me is the withdrawal of Simone Biles in the finals. Wish her the best.
It is since it's been 4 years that they've waited for this moment yet they cannot play because of the virus that they've contained. They never asked for it.
But it has to happen and they have no choice but to follow the protocol that has been made on Tokyo. We know that they also understand the situation but it's really a very bad and unfortunate experience.

How about one of the centerpiece in althletics? Jamaican sweep the medals in the 100-meter.

Elaine Thompson-Hera - Gold
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce - Silver
Shericka Jackson - Bronze

So the Philippines will already have a 2 medal haul in this Olympics, another accomplished for the country. The last time the country won multi medal is 89 years ago.

1 Gold 1 Bronze for the PH, very proud of this "girls".

Another quick update for the Philippines, Nesthy Petecio won her match against Testa of Italy with a score of 4-1.

She is now assured of a Silver medal already. But for sure he is gunning for the second gold medal for the Philippines. However, she will be facing a home town fighter Sena Irie. Will be a tough task for her and hopefully the judges will not be bias.
About Nesthy Petecio winning a second Gold for the country, I can't help but laugh at the memes circulating lately. The private sponsors who gave Hidilyn cash/non-cash gifts are sweating because they have to do the same for Neshy.

On a serious note, this is probably the golden age for Philippine Olympics that will be hard to replicate in the future. I hope the next administrations can maintain or improve training facilities all around the country and provide additional funding to our athletes.

It is very unfortunate. Previously it was thought that COVID won't be an issue, since all the athletes are fully vaccinated with two doses of the Pfizer vaccine. But now it is known that Pfizer vaccine has limited efficacy against the Delta strain, which is prevalent across the world. Anyway, the vaccination reduces the chance of hospitalization to close to zero, and I don't think that there is any need to postpone or suspend the remaining part of the Games. But the athletes need to maintain strict social distancing protocols.

4x100 relay have new OR either, congrats to Australia. they got 2 gold medals at the moment.

And another record after women 4x100m medley relay, USA won 4x100m medley relay men and broke World Record!
Great Britain got silver and Italy got bronze.

Caeleb Dressel won his fifth gold medal, that's insane. We are lucky to see that after Michael Phelps we have a new winner elite swimmer.

We saw two new olympic records in swimming today. It's pretty exciting day for swimming finals.
First Caeleb Dressel swam 21.07 in 50m freestyle and broke the record. Then Emma McKeon swam 23.81 in 50m freestyle women and broke the record. What a time to be alive!

I'm from Indonesia have strong badminton teams, today we going to see the semifinal  Anthony Sinisuka vs Chen Long, I hope he takes control to the next final following Indonesian women's doubles. I'm quite sad to see the men's doubles fail to get a bronze medal yesterday, Malaysia has been strong enough and gets that first medal.

After a week of Olympic games, we have China with the most medals won.
Will the USA not be the ones that will gather more gold medals this year? If that happens, it will be something that will surprise you.
The athletics competitions have already started, and the USA players are not having the expected performance.

Yes it was a surprise for me and it seems there is some down grade in the usa athletes in this olympics and i ve seen that especialy in basketball when they performed a little less than usual where in the last two olympics they did not lose a single game so this is just an example about what you said.

I'm betting on Brazil just for my patriotism, but aware that it will be a complicated match and risky bet.
markets went live and brazil to win at 2.1 odds seems decent, but i see value in over 2.5 goals at 1.7.
Both teams are pretty good in front of goal, and mexico are on fire lately with 14 goals in just 4 games

You should have went with just Brazil to win or to parlay it with something. This was a little riskier approach but at least you got the moneyback. I think Mexico can even surprise Brazil in the semis but for me Spain will probobly win against Japan
brazil to win odds were too low imo, but you're probably right, a parlay would've been better but i didn't see a game with good value earlier today (i should've taken a few more minutes and do some research, though  Roll Eyes )

Uhm , I think China might take the lead this year but it depends on what Japan will do at this moment because USA seems kinda from the 1st place , don't you think ? In my opinion he still have a lot of finals to see and it's true , the championship placement could change by the end of Olympics.

A quite good day for Turkey overall. Volleyball team guarantees quarterfinals for the first time ever, and gold medal in archery at the very same day. Volleyball wasn't really a surprise shock because they were already good, they didn't play that badly and they were ranked high as well, so it wasn't really a shock that they would get out of that group, I assumed it would be lower but they have a chance to even become second if Italy ends up beating USA (unlikely) and Turkey wins the last game.

The archery however was a big shock, that young kid was always a good archer, many things were expected of him, but definitely not this quickly and not gold medal, dude is a very young kid competing against older people 10+ years older even and he still managed to get gold medal, if he keeps this up and doesn't get unlucky, he could get few more gold medals in archery before he retires.

However, each game is unique and a lot of unexpected events, anything can happen on the field.
i ended up taking the -1 ahc

tough match for brazil with egypt parking the bus throughout the whole game

Spain vs Japan and Brazil vs Mexico in semis. I think the second match will be a goal fest, both teams play very offensive football, i'll keep an eye on the total goal markets in the bookies. Spain-Japan, it's a toss up, tbh

She's fighting very well and for sure she will do everything to win this fight, if she see that opportunities knowing that her opponents have that higher edge than her since she's fighting at home.

Still depends from how this much ends, the hope  for another gold still possible, that cold cash that's await for the Filipina fighter.

Hope she will also get the same perks like Hidilyn if she won the gold medal.  Good Luck!

Did anyone watched tennis today? Djokovic lost semifinal to Zverev.
It was an upset but Zverev has a game that can beat anyone. I lost on this one too.

Quote
And immediately after enf of singles game he went to play doubles semifinal. He lost it too. I think that such schedule is a bit unfair for athlete.
The Olympic rule allows him to play in both events but it is still Djokovic's decision to participate or let someone else do the doubles. The committee will not bend their schedule just because of a "tired" player.

And today Djokovic also lost the game for the bronze medal against pablo carreno busta, even though he managed to win the second set after he already had matchballs against him there. After that loss he also cancelled the match for the bronze medal in the mixed competition because of a shoulder injury. If he is really injured.. i doubt that. So that is pretty sad for his female partner nina stojanovic as she has now no chance to win an olympic medal and no one knows if she will ever have a chance to win a medal again in her life.
Also pretty disappointing for djokovic also of course. I think everyone expected him to win this olympic tournament and then also the US open to become the first male tennis player ever to win the golden slam. We will see if he can stay motivated for the rest of the season now.

Ok, so that's why he lost the match surprisingly against Zverev. Not taking anything away from Zverev, just what if Djokovic is healthy, it could have been a different outcome. Not sure the extend of the injury and hopefully it is not that bad as he will need to prepare next month for the US Open to complete a grand slam. Just sad that he didn't get the gold medal for his golden slam, but it is really hard to do because you have to maintain your health and be 100% injury free the whole year which is hard to do because of the gruelling tennis calendar.
