I just came here for another congratulatory post for our first-ever Gold medal Grin

I read a post about her Olympic journey since 2008:
2008 - second to the last
2012 - didn't finish
2016 - Silver
2020 - Gold

I also read she got financial support from a private citizen during her preparation for the competition. Just goes to show how important that is to the athletes and why developed countries usually dominate.

Well done Hidilyn Diaz! Enjoy your PHP30 Million (~$600K) reward.

Yeah, I still vividly remember watching her in 2012 summer Olympics in a gym that time.

But after that Diaz improved a lot and bring glory to the Philippines. But finally, we have achieved a very special gold that eluded us for 97 years. Every Filipino around the world should be rejoicing about this win as this is very historic day for all of us to finally hearing our national anthem. Very proud to be Filipino right now!!!.

We still have another women, Nesthy Petecio, who upsets top ranked Lin Yu-Ting of Chinese Taipei in the featherweight division. One win away from a potential medal.

Ok so it's good news for the Philippines again, Nesthy Petecio won her match against Yeni Marcela Arias Castaneda of Colombia. Meaning she is going to the next round, the quarterfinals and will assure her of a bronze medal already.

And if by chance she won against Irma Testa of Italy, she will be fighting for the gold medal.

So the Philippines will already have a 2 medal haul in this Olympics, another accomplished for the country. The last time the country won multi medal is 89 years ago.

1 Gold 1 Bronze for the PH, very proud of this "girls".

Another quick update for the Philippines, Nesthy Petecio won her match against Testa of Italy with a score of 4-1.

She is now assured of a Silver medal already. But for sure he is gunning for the second gold medal for the Philippines. However, she will be facing a home town fighter Sena Irie. Will be a tough task for her and hopefully the judges will not be bias.

However, each game is unique and a lot of unexpected events, anything can happen on the field.
i ended up taking the -1 ahc

tough match for brazil with egypt parking the bus throughout the whole game

Spain vs Japan and Brazil vs Mexico in semis. I think the second match will be a goal fest, both teams play very offensive football, i'll keep an eye on the total goal markets in the bookies. Spain-Japan, it's a toss up, tbh
Well, this is already a harder game to predict winner.

Mexico's rout over South Korea is already able to stir the emotionality of Brazilian players.
Adds to that the fact occurred at the 2012 Olympics in London, Brazil lost the gold medal to Mexico in finals, I hope this doesn't happen again in the semifinals this year.
I'm betting on Brazil just for my patriotism, but aware that it will be a complicated match and risky bet.

The first three games were tight ones exept for the mexico and south corea game which was really fun to watch lot of chances from both sides as for the semi finals spain and japan both had problems as we seen today spain with defensive issues and japan with offensive issues and i think in this game we wont see many goals and the first to score will have more advantage.

Did anyone watched tennis today? Djokovic lost semifinal to Zverev.
It was an upset but Zverev has a game that can beat anyone. I lost on this one too.

Quote
And immediately after enf of singles game he went to play doubles semifinal. He lost it too. I think that such schedule is a bit unfair for athlete.
The Olympic rule allows him to play in both events but it is still Djokovic's decision to participate or let someone else do the doubles. The committee will not bend their schedule just because of a "tired" player.

And today Djokovic also lost the game for the bronze medal against pablo carreno busta, even though he managed to win the second set after he already had matchballs against him there. After that loss he also cancelled the match for the bronze medal in the mixed competition because of a shoulder injury. If he is really injured.. i doubt that. So that is pretty sad for his female partner nina stojanovic as she has now no chance to win an olympic medal and no one knows if she will ever have a chance to win a medal again in her life.
Also pretty disappointing for djokovic also of course. I think everyone expected him to win this olympic tournament and then also the US open to become the first male tennis player ever to win the golden slam. We will see if he can stay motivated for the rest of the season now.

Has anyone seen the bronze medal match in badminton?
After the minions failed, I hoped for Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan to  enter the final. Unfortunately they also lost in the semifinals. Furthermore, in the bronze medal match, Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan had to meet Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik. Ahsan/Hendra who fought three games. They played pretty tight for 52 minutes. Unfortunately, at the end of the game, I had to admit the superiority of Chia/Soh Wooi Yik with a score of 21-17, 17-21, and 21-14.

So far I did not hear a single thing about doping , cheating or being furious towards team , players or official. And we are in Japan , where honor and dignity are presence all over the place so I'm not excepting to see anything that would damage the Image of Tokyo Olympics.

Yes, there are some vocals here and there that are against of some players and referees but in the end , fair play will be victorious.
I think that nobody has been caught yet. But usually positive doping tests appears some time after end of Olympics. Sometimes it can take few years.

Anyone got caught for cheating or for using doping already? Or any other scandal (except racism)? Havent heard anything about that. Usually there is always 1 negative news per day. Or everyone has hidden their doping test behind covid vaccine?
I haven't followed some news about it but it seems that there were news that's made related to this and these are the few of it. See the links below:

thoughts on the football games tomorrow? main favorites (brazil, spain and japan) to win with ease? or does anyone believe we're gonna see a big upset?

i just saw the 1x2 odds for the brazil - egypt game and brazil odds are too high, imo. To win at 1.41? that makes the asian handicap odds scream good value (if you believe the brazilians are gonna smash egypt, of course) with -1 ahc at 1.68 odds and -1.5 at 2 odds. I'll grab one of those two tbh, i don't think egypt are going to be a tough opponent for dani alves & co

In the group stage, Brazil had the second-best campaign (two wins and one draw), only behind Japan (with three wins).
Egypt won only one, drawing and losing the other times. I see here... Egypt has the worst attack of the teams that qualified for the quarter-finals.

So, not only because of Brazil's favoritism (and also because I'm Brazilian) but also because of the statistical analysis of both teams, I believe tha tBrazil win.

However, each game is unique and a lot of unexpected events, anything can happen on the field.

Maybe I missed something in this story, but why is it talking about racism? In my opinion, this is nothing more than stupidity mixed with stereotypes. This is very unpleasant and such behavior is certainly unacceptable, but the punishment is excessive. Perhaps some disciplinary action should have been taken against him at the end of the competition.

The punishment may be too much but the committee might be strong in promoting anti-racism, remember that the event is held in Japan, it's in Asia where we also hear a lot of asian racism comments from Americans and europian countries. Olympics is a big competition and we should know its mission.

Maybe, but why is now almost any action called racism? If I say that the German national team is not performing very well in this championship due to the fact that they did not bring their excellent beer with them and the local of the worst quality would it be racism or not? It might be a dumb/stereotyped joke, but what does racism have to do with it?

It is regrettable that racism problems arise at the Olympic Games, many campaigns have been carried out to prevent this type of act, human behavior of this style is totally deplorable in the current situation we live in:

The worst of all is that these comments are by the same sports director of the German cycling federation, a person who should be an example for everyone, falls into this type of act. Although he later apologized, he said that it was not his intention to offend anyone, but I think that he should have thought about it before, currently these things in sport should not be said.

The large population cannot describe the sports achievements. I think the management of Human Resources carried out by the board is not optimal. Limited facilities, budget and flight hours are very constraint.

Having a large population doesn't guarantee success in sports. India is having a population of 1.4 billion, and the last time they won a gold medal at the Olympics was way back in 2008. And the Indian government is spending hundreds of millions of USD in training the athletes every year, and sending them to US and other countries to have the best coaches and trainers. But there have been hardly any success. I think that it has something to do with the genetics as well. Perhaps the majority of Indian population doesn't have the genetic strength to compete in sports. Because most of the medals have been won by ethnic minorities form the northeast region, who are racially different from the rest of Indians.

With only 29 total summer medals, India is historically one of the Olympics' underperformers. By comparison, Slovakia totaled 37 despite having 0.4 percent of India's population and not even being a country until 1993. However, it is fair to point out that some of the sports Indians excel at on the international stage, such as cricket and squash, aren't Olympic events.

Because the two Indonesian representatives in the men's doubles are both group winners, so they have the opportunity to present the All Indonesian Final. Although previously they had to compete in the quarterfinals and semifinals for the final match.

It seems that Indonesia's final failed. Minion lost to Malaysia's Chia/Soh Woii Yik. The world number 1 pair lost 14-21, 17-21 in 33 minutes.
Just waiting for the men's doubles pair M. Ahsan / H. Setiawan I hope they can perform well today.

Why does Indonesia have such a low sports achievement at the Olympics as well as at the SEA Games? I mean, your capital, Jakarta, has almost triple the population of my entire country, and we've already won two golds and a few bronze medals. We're also very good at the Winter Olympics.
