The Best Tipster on the Forum!!
It is a shame that my country (Russia) will compete without a flag, but I think Russian athletes will win a lot of medals at these Olympics! Russia has always been famous for many good athletes or gymnasts...

Well this years olympic games arent anything special . No crowd or anything so probobly Russia got the best time to serve their ban. Russia is always one the countries that wins the most medals next to USA and China so we will see how far they can go this year on the olympic games

Do you have a link of the countries that are banned and for what reason? Well, in regards to public fans it was expected amid the rising cases of COVID-19 in their country. I read this news regarding the men competing with women here: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/28/sports/olympics/women-athletes-competition.html and I guess they should stayed with the traditional approach, not good I guess. Even if there are too many women on the Olympics they should have set aside the quantity and compete with their gender. This isn't the time for gender equality, for goodness sake.

Any day a fanatical man who wants to win at all costs, but does not have physical conditions pays to win against other men, has an operation and enters the women's category, to say that he is the winner!
Shame!

No God or Kings, only BITCOIN.
This is probably going to be first unfair olympics in history of olympic games, some countries are banned, ridiculous rules, probably no public and fans, man competing in woman category, and who knows what else are we going to see...
Tennis will probably be interesting to watch if Djokovic decides to participate, but he is still thinking about it.

At least 15 countries, including major powers like Russia, Iran and Turkey, can only send a limited number of athletes to Tokyo due to past doping accusations.
seems reasonable. the fact that they can still send athletes is a great thing despite having issues regarding doping their athletes(at least for Russia).

would you mind sharing the link from where you got the news? I can't seem to find that specific article. TIA!

Quick question, how does a country qualify to play the Olympics? I really want to see my country play but they aren't even participating so I don't exactly get what is the requirements to do be part of Olympics, also who will be carrying the torch this time?

As I didn't see a concrete answer to this question (sorry if anyone asked), here it is:

Any country that has an Olympic committee can participate. Even countries that do not have an Olympic committee, because of wars, economic or other problems, athletes can participate via the international Olympic committee.

How do athletes qualify?
Basically it will be for participating in other tournaments during the 4 years before the Olympic Games.
In order to participate, you have to do the minimums to access the games. In other words, you have to spend a minimum amount of time to qualify to participate.

Each modality has its minimum requirements. See for example in the case of athletics:

Athletics athletes who want to participate in the Olympic Games, have at least one of the official competitions to do these times.

Each country has a maximum number of athletes it can take, which varies based on various factors. Number of athletes registered in the federations, dimension, etc.

Afterwards, the best athletes from each country that manages to make the minimums, will then participate in the Olympic Games.

Is anyone interested in Olympic skateboarding talks? I will be covering that here so if anyone wants to chime in with predictions beforehand, let's do it! Some huge names are gonna show off their skills, but I can't really think of any situation where the US will not dominate.

Four medal events will be held:

Women & Men
Park
Street

He has already announced his participation through his twitter and has also been posted by other members https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.57470713
The news of his participation is quite exciting because many top players have withdrawn for various reasons.

yeah, he is participating, it is a question now will the tournament be interesting, since we have a winner Smiley
nevertheless, it is better to have great players and exciting matches, than to have more interesting tournament with mediocre players

regarding bans, the world is getting more divided and that could be seen on Olympics as well, some countries will have less participants due to various reasons

Who is your favorite athlete who will still go to Olympics in football? I think for the squad even though there is an age limit of 23, they do allow each country to send 3 (if I'm not mistaken) athletes who are overaged, but I don't know if there's a limit for THAT.

Would be so cool to see Messi try and win it again for Argentina;)
Honestly, I don't care much about football in Olympics. Probably I'm going to watch only final of tournament. Until your post I didn't even knew who will play there. Now I checked squads of teams, lot of no names for me, but Spain squad looks impressive.

... but this is harsh. Her mother died suddenly and unexpectedly, and she was informed of this whilst at the trials. She says she took marijuana as a coping mechanism, which is fair enough. It's a reason for her taking it, and is likely the reason why the ban is so short. And certainly the ban must stand, but this doesn't mean we shouldn't have sympathy.

People give all sort of excuses to avoid a ban. If she was so sad about the death of the family member, then she should have pulled out of the Olympics. American athletes in particular has been given all sort of exemptions for the Olympics. Athletes from other countries are banned for the silliest of the reasons, while American athletes such as Simone Biles were given exemptions for the same drug (in Simone's case, the excuse was that she need the drug for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)).

Yes, people do give excuses. I'm not saying she should get an exemption at all. I think she deserves the ban because she broke the rules.
All I'm saying is that at the same time we can have some sympathy for her, and some understanding of her situation. It's not like it's a performance enhancing drug, and this was a difficult time.
But yes, obviously the ban must remain, and she shouldn't be allowed to compete.

Campaign Management?"Hhampuz" is the Man

True. Athletes have a lot of responsibilities and a duty to fulfill when they accept to represent their countries in an international competition. It's important to mention they weren't forced to it. They are there because they wanted and agreed with all terms and conditions.

In this case the rule makes total sense and must be followed, since everyone knows not only marijuana, but also drinks and common cigarettes are harmful to the athlete's endurance and performance, what will prejudice the country they are representing on the competition. Newer generations think they can change how everything was made before and introduce their own rules or just destroy the older ones as if these rules were created without any logical reasons.

Indeed! before player being selected tryouts are being made by the facilitating bodies,
and after you've been selected you also informed regards to each rules the committee have.

She's fully aware and by that this suspensions is fair enough to everyone who managed to control,  she should do the same.

Olympics is the best chance to represent your county and to bring pride to every sports that the players are representing,
being responsible in any actions that you'll going to take is very important.

she was already aware that weed was banned and still consumed it. Who should be blamed here? It is not possible to provide exemptions on an individual basis. If weed is permitted today, then tomorrow some people may ask for glass and crack.
Well, no-one should be blamed. Why is there a need to apportion blame? The ban is legitimate, and must stand. Yes, there should not be any exemptions. She should not be able to compete. This is clear...

No sympathy for Sha'Carri.

I'm just curious how you guys feel about Sha'Carri Richardson being banned or suspended from the Olympics and then ultimately being left off the 4 x 100 sprinter relay team?

It's unfortunate timing. She got a tiny ban, due to the fact that whilst marijuana doesn't enhance performance, it's still illegal. It just so happens that the tiny ban covers the period of the olympics 100m. The rules are the rules, and there isn't really any room to manoeuvre, there has to be a ban of some sort. As for her not being in the relay team which comes a bit later and after the end of the ban... I think again they have little choice. They have to be seen as being consistent. It would be difficult to justify including a runner in one event who is banned from the individual version.

It's not a great situation, and it feels harsh on her, but the rules can't be bent... that would set a terrible precedent.

No sympathy for Sha'Carri. Athletes need to take great care while taking food, to make sure that they are not consuming any items containing prohibited substances. Even previously there have been cases of individual athletes getting bans for mistakenly consuming banned substances. And in case of Sha'Carri, she was already aware that weed was banned and still consumed it. Who should be blamed here? It is not possible to provide exemptions on an individual basis. If weed is permitted today, then tomorrow some people may ask for glass and crack.
