When I was still a newbie to crypto many people told me to keep holding and that's all I did for many years and in the end I ended up with many dead coins, whenever I keep seeing people talking about patience as if it's the only thing a newbie need I always shake my head, the fact is you need more than patience to get good results from projects, having patience sometimes will get you nothing

Not for altcoins unfortunately (except the strong contenders like Litecoin, Monero, Ethereum, maybe EOS and others). I made the same mistake as you, entering when I thought the dip was happening in 2017/18 but only to see them never recover again.

Altcoins are always a gamble, that's something you've to accept before dipping in. So is Defi, in case you're wondering.

HODL,I think this only makes sense for bitcoin and major altcoins. If you had received and hold bnb last year, you could earn good money right now or ethereum. But if you do this with shit coins the result may be disappointing

Sorry to hear that, first of all you need to have any decision based on your will so you wont regret it so much.
Secondly, the patience that you need is if the project you follow have any development but the price didnt follow it, so you need to be patience for it.
Last, reset your strategy and pick another crypto, maybe you're not too late to take another crypto profit.
Because once they go down and the devs abandoned it, there's no way that it will go up again.
Doge have no devs anymore and yet its rising star at this time, sometimes community over development dude. So, sometimes this crypto movement make many people have some headache  Cheesy
Any hesitate move will didnt makes any good otherwise your good move need more faith on it.
But many people have some profit because of that Grin

The last tweet from Elon for Dogecoin has not moved the coin like before, and it seems the price is going down following the bitcoin price. At this moment, patience will be needed and still watching the market moves so we do not be late to decide if the market moves differently. But I am sure behind of patience, there is a big reward waiting for us.

patience still a key but of course you just fooled yourself if u don't really know about what u hold it. did you ever try to get in touch on their social media maybe, or even their telegram group about how its going. basically even for exit scam project u must see something strange on their telegram group.
For me definity about patience with also hear about how project going on then u will know how the time will paying you for your patience.

You can't do much just with patience, or just with big capital...you need some set! And most important is to learn when to use a specific skill... there's time to be patient and quiet, there's a time when you need to play it aggressively... being smart is knowing how to act in the best way in the specific market conditions!
In the end, I believe in exceptions! Exceptions are everywhere around, and in dealing with crypto! You can try to find your own way and to be good in whatever you do!

It always depends on what you are trying to achieve with your crypto investment. If you want to have a chance to make 500$ into 50.000 $ without much effort, then the best thing would be to invest your 500$ into 1 or more solid crypto projects and then just wait. In this case you really need patience to not cash out to early or sell off once the prices are dropping.
If you want to make the absolut maximum out of your initial 500$ investment then you need to be a very active trader, buy the rumor sell the news, listen to trends, be active on twitter and telegram to be informed and so on. That's much more effort but also has the potential of making way more money compared to simple hodling. It also creates more opportunity for wrong decisions though.  Smiley

It's simple arithmetic, don't hold new altcoins for long, they can fetch you good amount of money but sooner or later they will become shit coins, if you want to hold for a very long time hold the best coins, BTC, LTC, NEO, ETH, XMR
True, coins and tokens that have the potential as you mentioned are always suitable to be held in the long term, but for new tokens it will obviously not be suitable because the potential for development is not so great which can cause sudden death.

Yes patience is not always the optimal way to achieve what we want in life. If you want to hold your coins in your wallet make sure you're done of rigorous studying about the possible future of that coins because not all project has good future, some of them has not good end.

In my own opinion holding  is the term suited only for primary digital currency like ETH, BTC.

The current situation makes me feel like patience is everything. You could trade and make money but you still need to keep a portion of your investment to sell at a later price. And the price points should start from realistic and never end even in unrealistic situation. I never thought bitcoin could reach to 58K in 2021 and sold all of mine at a lot cheaper.

Holding a coin for a long time will not always be profitable nor will it always be detrimental. That will happen if it is on which coin we hold.
If holding for long is to be profitable of course one has to be on the right coin being held. If you hold shit coins for a long time, of course
you will lose a large part of your capital. For this reason, the preparation before determining the investment must be mature and precise.

Surely, patience is just one of the important things to have by a crypto holder. But it doesn't mean a crypto holder only needs the patience to succeed in crypto investment. There many other things to have if a crypto holder wants to be successful in his crypto investment. Be smart and careful are two things that also have big roles in crypto investment. Be smart and careful to choose the best crypto coins for investment are two things that can be crucial as well. if we choose the wrong coins, then we will have a bad result in the end.

First of all, you need to know the potential coin itself. If you just collecting many coins that doesn't have a potential it will be worthless, your patience and your effort will not be paid and it will make you angry.

You have to know some strategy and an understanding how to find a potential coin. So as you will not hold the worthless coin and even you will join a spam bounty campaign, yeah I'll bet you have a lot of dead coin from bounty project, right?

I understand what you feel, you are expecting something upon holding for many years but in the end, you've got nothing, really disappointing. That is a waste of time and that I usually not encourage people to hold for many years if you are not having those on the most potential coin like BTC and ETH.

Because if you are investing in new projects, you can't expect to have productive results even you hold for 10 years especially when it has no active market support to build market demand. You better know first the potentiality of the coin that you are holding otherwise, you end up nothing.

Not all coins are really worth holding long term. But maybe, if the OP held btc , maybe he is happy today. I learned my lesson also with tokens and other coins, if your instinct is saying that it will not last long, sell it while you can. Because once they go down and the devs abandoned it, there's no way that it will go up again. Same with so many tokens. Most of them have short lifespan because the devs have no intentions of attaining their objectives. A lot of them are pump and dump projects. dd

It is true that investing in cryptocurrency is not enough with patience. Because it takes good knowledge and analytical skills too, because if you only
rely on patience, you will end up holding the wrong coins. If we have good knowledge and can also analyze the market well. Of course we will invest
in coins that do have good potential, not investing in shitcoins that could end up being deadcoins.

You will always be the losers when you are holding a scam coin for the long term. It's clearly said that it doesn't matter how short or long you are holding your investment as long as that was from the top coin and that would be very profitable. That's the problem. When you can find the gem that worth to be used as long term holders and you will be fine.
The problem is what kind of coin that you have been holding for long term.

Definitely, I agree, even though patience plays a big part, enough knowledge and the right timing on cashing out should be included if ever one needs to take profit from his trades.  And btw, also it is best to avoid greed as the reason for being patience.
