Benfica couldn't open the points gap after losing to porto in an important match this week.I think they shouldn't have lost in such a match with 7 weeks left in the league. But I think this defeat won't be a problem for them.
Braga and Sporting survived this week by not losing points. It is especially important for Braga to follow porto because there will be a qualifying difference between 2nd and 3rd in the champions league. There is a difference of 2 points between them and this is a difference that can be closed, so Braga will have to win their remaining matches as well as waiting for porto to lose points.

This season still has an interesting plot. Benfica Lissabon is going to play against Braga and against Sporting towards the end. Now mathematically, if these two games are going to be close or Benfica loses them and Porto do their job, it would in fact become interesting once more. Benfica has to try and not lose those two games or otherwise they could get into trouble, a situation that I suppose nobody here believes to be possible. But the game against Porto could be this kind of key game.

I think that Benfica will go their way against Inter and then they still have the pressure mounting from the Champions League as well while not having secured the Primera Liga title. That can make a difference at some point when they might be facing an injury or another suspension. There is still some hard work to do for them even though the table looks comfortable for now, but those two games against Braga and Sporting caution is required.

I don't think Benfica will lose to Braga and also most likely they will not lose against Sporting either. They are now fully focused on the Champions League encounter against Inter in the upcoming two weeks and only once they would have settle things there for good or worse only then they will start thinking again Liga Portugal, for now they are leading comfortably and their mind and objective for the upcoming two weeks is far away from Liga Portugal.

Sporting is playing against Casa Pia tonight which should be an easy win for them, they have not been the most consistent team during this season and their position in the standings is showing just that.Porto started a bit late to do well and as such they have no real options of becoming Champions of Portugal this season.

Never say never to this one! The odds are against Braga and Sporting, but look at the last game against Porto and the single goal that Benfica Lissabon scored was actually an own goal by Porto. I agree with you and I also don't believe that Benfica is going to lose both games, but many people know what I am talking about. The closer you get to your goal, the more nervousness is involved as well often times especially when there is not just one task that you have to focus on, but you are also playing the Champions League and become afraid of losing it all. These are the mental mechanics that can come into play and Benfica would be no exception here. What plays into their hands is that they have a long history to look back on and lots of experience with a bit more difficult situations.

After having really good two seasons Sporting seem really bad compared to those ones in this season. They made so many unnecessary point losses which caused them to get far away from the leader.

Now it is even doubtful if they can make it to the Champions League. Because the gap with Braga is five points at the moment. While we are entering the last seven weeks of the season Sporting had better step up their performance level. While there is a situation like this in the league they had better concentrate on the Europa League title at the same time. Because they have eliminated the biggest favourite which was Arsenal and this means they even have the power to go for the title.

They might not even need to finish the Liga Portugal in top 4 to be a part of the Champions League next season then.

I think this is a great bet, at least for me, Braga, Sporting and Arouca victories, let's see if I'm lucky

Braga, Sporting and Arouca won their matches  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I haven't followed the Portuguese championship closely in the past, but it's looking very interesting to bet on.
The top 4 teams are very strong, it's quite a difference from the rest of the teams.

What calls my attention is not even the difference between the first place that had 10 points of difference from second (now 7 points), but the difference between the 4th place and the 5th, which is 13 points.
Generally this part of the table is more competitive, but the 4 teams are much superior. If you look at the other championships such as the Spanish, English, Italian etc, there is not that much difference.

Are you also placing bets on the Portuguese championship this year or do you just follow the games?

Sporting is playing against Casa Pia tonight which should be an easy win for them, they have not been the most consistent team during this season and their position in the standings is showing just that.Porto started a bit late to do well and as such they have no real options of becoming Champions of Portugal this season.
Damn, what a game it was. Sporting won it 3:4. It took just 17 seconds from beginning of game for Trincao to score, probably one of fastests goals in league history:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIN9Cs-bTJE
And what a performance by Felippe Cardoso from Casa Pia. He entered pitch on 56 minute, got yellow card on 59, scored goal on 62 and got second yellow card on 64th minute. Probably he didn't even had to go to shower after the game Cheesy.
Important win for Sporting if they want to catch Braga, still 5 points between them.
in the match against casa pia, trincao managed to make a hat trick and the first goal he made was really fast, really an extraordinary goal. Goncalves also contributed 1 goal in this match and made him enter the top 5 of the Portuguese league top scorers.

later there will be a match between chaves vs gil vicente, the two teams are not in a good position, i predict chaves will win in this match.

Vaccinized.. immunity level is full.
In the last match of the day, Braga beat their opponent 4-1 and continued to follow Porto. The home team, who played a dominant game from the first half, scored in the 17th minute and ended the first half 1-0 ahead. At the beginning of the second half, Estoril scored immediately and equalized the situation, but here they took control of the game and scored three more goals and defeated their opponent. Thus, the point difference with Porto remained at two.

Braga's performance was very good. In fact, Estoril Praia did not have a strong team. And so we saw only Braga's dominance in this match. Braga's players controlled the match from the start of the match. They scored the first goal in just 17 minutes. The first half ended 1-0 so Estoril Praia played a very defensive strategy in this match. Otherwise, they would have conceded several more goals.

Even after winning this match, Braga is 2 points behind Porto. It will be very difficult for Braga to top the points table. Because the Porto team is consistently performing well in every match. Benfica at the top of the table and Porto in second place are more likely.

Braga vs Estoril for me it's not worth it. Just look at ball possession, Braga is superior to Estoril and in terms of shots on goal, Braga is also superior.
so it's very easy for Braga to score 4 goals against Estoril with very bad defense. Medeiros and Mendes had many chances in the second half so they were able to add 2 goals in the final half of the game.

In the next match, Porto must at least win if they don't want to be replaced by Braga considering that the difference of 2 points is quite easy. in the upcoming match Porto will face Santa Clara, Porto's opportunity to score more goals and add points makes Braga a little behind.

It was a nice comeback porto team managed yesterday against benfica but that didn't change anything since benfica team was already out of reach even after yesterday loss they are still seven points clear at the top, their most important game will be against inter in the champions league.

I really hope that's it, and they get a good result against Inter.
Otherwise, it didn't make any sense that they spared themselves in the game against Porto, and that they missed the opportunity to show their superiority against their main rival.

Arouca won 1-0 at home to increase their points tally to 44 and keep their points difference with Guimaraes at the same level. They won with a goal in the first half.
Ferreira were one of the sure candidates for the relegation zone and today they lost at home, further diminishing their chances. They are likely to be one of the two relegated teams. In the last match of the day, braga will host estoril. They will not want to lose points in the week Porto won. I expect my Braga to win.

Guimaraes is one team that their major problem is inconsistency. Maybe its because they don't have quality squad depth like other top teams in the league. At one point they will be a good form and win a series of games then they will go ahead and lose the next five games. They have to work on that if the want to be among the teams that will play European football next season.

As for Ferreira, I think they will be relegated. I don't think anything will change at the bottom of the table. Both Ferreira and Santa Clara will be relegated. Maritimo have been getting worst lately and they are a strong candidate to get relegated too but I believe they have a higher chance of survival than Ferreira.

Portuguese league seems like a league in which manipulation has been in place for years, look at the case of porto, see how porto has been winning games in a strange way, and see how benfica's game against porto was, it didn't even seem that the players of benfica had any interest in winning the game, benfica's performance was not a normal performance, it even looked like a team that before the game had been told to play badly and lost the game, the big teams like benfica and porto seem to always play manipulating the results, maybe I'm wrong, but anyone who observes the Portuguese league well will come to this kind of conclusion

well, we'll see what the theater will be like in the next games, maybe benfica will start with a losing streak for porto to win and for porto to win the referees will give many red cards and penalties to all porto's opponents, i said months ago that benfica profits from selling players and that when it comes to winning the league I don't think they make an effort, there have been many times when they were better than porto and other teams but in the end they started to lose out of nowhere and porto miraculously became champion, the result of today's game is not even something surprising, Is a Déjà vu

I clearly understand what you mean. This was probably the worst game Benfica played this season. This may seem strange and give an idea, but with Portuguese and knowing Portuguese football well, I can say that this is unlikely to have happened.

But, looking at the history of the last 20 years, I can say that Benfica lives with the ghost of losing at home against Porto. So, with that ever-present fear, with the supporters' determination to win, the important game of the Champions League, Benfica's players reached a point where it seems that they have disconnected from the game. It's strange, no doubt, but it's one of the areas that Benfica have to improve a lot, not being so afraid of Porto.

He continued to think that it would be difficult for Benfica to lose the championship, even so, Benfica has to do more to improve that mental aspect.

Well I never thought Porto to be able to turn things around after they conceded a goal early and playing at Benfica home, yet here we are with just 20 minutes to go and the result is 1-2 for Porto now. Both teams will play in Champions League so I think it does not impact the game of each team and they are giving it all for this game, while Benfica has the luxury of not caring much if they lose a game as they are still leading the Liga Portugal comfortably as they are still 7 points ahead of Porto and the game is not over yet and most probably Benfica will draw, anyway whatever happens Liga Portugal is most likely already won by Benfica and as such even if they lose this game nothing will really change in here.
it was surprising when in the last minute before the game finished M. Taremi was able to add 1 goal for Porto and take points from Benfica.
surely the Benfica players also would not have thought that M. Taremi would score a goal. because all Benfica's players thought was to underestimate Porto and in the end Benfica was humiliated by M.Taremi with an additional goal in the last minute.
but for Benfica this defeat means nothing while the difference in points is still quite far.

Porto won in the most crucial match of the week. We have to say that neither team could get into many positions. Although Benfica played more with the ball, they couldn't win the match. To be honest, I didn't expect Benfica to play so badly. maybe they didn't focus much on this match because they were focused on the Inter match they were going to play during the week. The more important game for them is to win the Inter game. With this win Porto reduced the points difference with Benfica to seven.

Benfica is very unlikely to lose the title this season. Even after losing this match, the Benfica team is 7 points ahead of Porto. And right now that 7 points seem like a huge gap. Benfica played very carefully against Porto. They do not want to face any injury in this match. Because they are now more worried about the Champions League match. The team wants to win against Inter Milan in the quarter-finals. And I think the team is progressing according to the plan and expect to see a more composed performance from Benfica against Inter Milan on the 12th.

Totally with you, my friend, on the high stakes for both Porto and Benfica in this game – and don't even get me started on those Champions League clashes coming up! But I can't shake this gnawing worry in my gut. Sure, Benfica's sitting pretty atop Liga Portugal, but a defeat to Porto could throw a massive wrench in their Champions League aspirations.

And get this – Benfica can't afford to slip up again, so they'll be playing it safe, ultra-cautious in the games ahead. That might just cripple their mojo and keep them from hitting their targets. So, this game? A glaring reminder of the sky-high stakes in pro football, and how a single stumble can set off a wild ripple effect.

Same for me, but this is what nerves can do when you have the hands around the trophy already Smiley But not to forget here that Benfica Lissabon could afford that result although I am sure they would have much rather taken a draw even pre-game. Losing it makes things a bit of interesting actually and that is what they wanted to avoid taking into account their ambitions in the Champions League. They would have had more options when it comes to rotation and giving players a break. Now they can't really afford to lose another one. Schmidt was asked whether people should already congratulate him when he wins against Porto and he said that the only thing that counts is mathematics when it comes to being the champion or not and as you can see he is of course right. That was a six points game and now Benfica needs to be careful. It is still comfortable though as Porto is another category than most of the teams they have to play against from now on.
