I hope Benfica's lawyers can prove Benfica's innocence and that this case is closed as soon as possible. Without Benfica in the Portuguese league, the league would lose the level of competitiveness it currently has. I can't see the Portuguese league with only Porto and Sporting getting much attention. Even when Benfica is not doing well, the number of fans in the stadium is high and I believe that when these fans buy tickets they are paying some tax on the ticket purchase and the money goes to the government. So if Benfica is banned then that will not be good for the government.
The accusations of tax fraud are very serious, I think it does not depend on how well the team performs, it only depends on its compliance with the laws. The Portuguese prosecutor's office accuses Benfica of tax fraud, and before making such accusations they conduct many investigations, this concerns the transfer activities of the club between 2016 and 2019. The punishment can be a suspension of the club from three to six years, it is strange that everything is so strict and cannot be limited to a fine, although the club's lawyers refute everything.This is still very recent, the court process hasn't even started yet. The Public Ministry only took the case to court and made accusations based on the evidence collected. Now the defense allegations and presentation of evidence in court will begin, to check whether everything is confirmed or not. A lot can still happen in the development of this process.
These are funny things about Portuguese football. With this victory, Porto remains in second place. As long as Sporting continues with its good performance, Porto will need to make more of an effort to be able to catch up with Sporting. On Benfica's side, the game was postponed, but with the current good performance, I still have hope that this season we can be champions, but only if Sporting has some bad luck.
