After Ruben Amorim left Sporting Lisbon, Sporting Lisbon was met with poor results. It means that the manager has a very important place in the team. Now Benfica has one game left and is two points behind Sporting Lisbon. Sporting Lisbon has suffered two defeats and has not yet drawn. Benfica won their last game with a goal from Kerem Aktürkoğlu and gained three points. Benfica turned out to be the most profitable team because they drew in Porto this week.

Despite the victory, Benfica also showed some signs of weakness.  It's true that a victory helps to overcome a poor performance, but Benfica still needs to improve its performances.

Porto, on the other hand, is really in a very low form, at the moment I can't say if the problem is the coach or the squad.

In the case of Sporting, it is clear that the team is missing Amorim. Will they really be able to get over his departure?

Well, today Sporting will play against Moreirense, who in the last 5 games won 3 games and lost 2 games. Moreirense will play at home. In the last games Moreirense has done very well when they play at home, even when they played against big teams like Benfica and Porto, Moreirense did not lose against Benfica and Porto. So I see that for today's game, Moreirense will win or draw. The problem is that if Sporting loses or draws today, then in a few rounds we will see Porto and Benfica surpassing Sporting in the table. In my opinion Benfica or Porto will be champions and Sporting will finish in third place and in the next seasons I very much doubt that Sporting will become champions.
Match ended as you said with stunning performance from Moreirense that have made them beat Sporting and if there had been no penalty maybe Sporting would not have had that one goal, it just that this week no one has been able to take over the top of the standings occupied by Sporting.
Who knows what the next round will be like Sporting went through, they made the fans feel disappointed and skeptical about the belief that Sporting could win the title if their performance was continuous like this.
Sporting two consecutive defeats will be big loss for them in the future because their position is no longer safe.

How quickly things change  Shocked
Until a few days ago several users said that Sporting were already the champions of this season and that nothing would take the title away from them

This is Sporting's third defeat in a row since the coach's departure
It's amazing what a difference it makes to a team that's performing well.

Don't be surprised if Sporting don't even make the top three this season, I've seen the same pattern in the Brazilian league.

Since Braga is a very unstable team, I think that Sporting will at least be lucky enough to benefit from Braga's instability and may be able to finish in second place. Now, if Sporting loses in the next game against Boavista, then loses against Gil Vicente, then loses against Benfica, then Sporting will finish in 5th or 6th place. I know many Sporting fans who in the past would cry every time Sporting lost, but when Amorim started winning the Portuguese League, those Sporting fans were very confident and always laughing, now they are crying again.  Grin

Braga 2 - 2 Estoril

It was a game with a lot of penalties, I expected Braga to win, because they scored 2 goals and all they needed to do was focus on defense, but it's unbelievable that Estoril scored 2 goals and tied the game.

It is obvious that there is no celebration for Sporting in their games without Amorim. João Pereira scored 6 goals against Amarante FC in his debut league game. While a lot of people doubt Amorim is not the only reason for the team's successes this season. Sporting dropped their first league point of the season after the 12 week game result. I don't expect Sporting to struggle to score against Santa Clara because they have outstanding players. Sporting conceded in the first 33 minutes of the game, and I was confident they'd bounce back to make it level and win, but they lost all three points at home.

Since Amorim left the club, we've seen different performances in their games, things aren't as familiar as they were at the start of the season. Sporting lost their first Champions League game of the season to Arsenal, conceding five goals at home, the highest they have conceded this season. They lost their previous two home games, which is quite terrible, currently, Sporting has five points above Benfica.

Without Amorin I am convinced that Sporting will not be champions. I see that things will go back to how they were a few years ago when only Porto and Benfica dominated the league and won the league. Yesterday Porto won the game against Casa Pia and now they are only 3 points behind Sporting. Also, if Benfica wins the next game they will be only 2 points behind Sporting. Even if Sporting manages to win the next 3 games, in the fourth game they will play against Benfica, who in my opinion they will lose. Without Amorin, Sporting is not the same team.
I think that it is now obvious that the successes hat Sporting have been enjoying were all due to Ruben Amorim because since he left the club for Manchester United, they have been suffering and getting very terrible results that they were not getting when he was there. What surprises me is that Ruben Amorim is not also getting those magical results in Manchester United that he just joined as he lost against Arsenal, a match many people thought he would win. The next few matches will really show how good he is as a coach and if Manchester United made a mistake or a great choice.

Sporting has lost their last three games across all competitions, and Amorim's exit has affected the team's performance. I wasn't expecting that the new manager would have a hard time in the team's before winning games because the players still had the strength to win. Their recent performance is terrible, they won one game and lost two in the league after hiring a new manager, despite losing zero with Amorim.

Sporting recent decline in performance shows how important Amorim was to the team before his exit from the club because it's been a long time the lost 3 consecutive matches in all competition. Infact, since February they only lost to Atalanta in their Europa league meeting before they lost these 3 consecutive games after Amorim left the club. Coach surely has a strong impact in a team performance because if Amorim was still with them, they would not have lost three matches at a go because the coach is well experienced and knows the best for his team and we can also see his impressive structure at Manchester united that he is coaching currently.

However, I wasn't happy with Sporting's performance against Moreirense yesterday, they lost against a team ranked eighth in the league. After Gyökeres scored a penalty in 12 minutes of the match, I immediately assumed Sporting would win another match. But when I checked the score this morning, I saw that Sporting had lost by conceding two more goals. They are just a few points away from Porto, so the Sporting position is not safe. Of course, the management, who agreed that Amorim should join another team, must take the blame if they lose the league.

Sporting losing to Moreirense wasn't much of a surprise to me because when i watched Moreirense win Porto in the Portuguese cup match they played, i was also having the feeling that they can stand against Sporting that was why even when Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting scored the first goal, i knew that Moreirense can equalize the goal because they were really pressurizing Sporting and since they have good home records also made them took advantage of their own home, though i was expecting the match to end in a draw but the Sporting side were too careless to concede a second goal before halftime and the match just ended in same score all the way from the first half result till fulltime.

If for any reason Sporting fails to win the Portuguese league title this season, I think we should blame it on the departure of Ruben Amorim from the club last month. The only two games Sporting have lost in the Portuguese league were recorded in their last two games which was after Amorim left the club.
Personally, I feel there's still hope for them to win the league this season since they still have the same players that started the same with them. The new club manager as a matter of urgency have to work on the team and return them to winning ways again.

Under Amorim Sporting looked like different force, but it was too early to award them with title when we didn't even reached half of season. Watched yesterday's Sporting loss and it's hard to recognize team. But when you think, it's not that Sporting footballers turned into worse players in few weeks.
I don't want to draw apolcalyptic scenario for them yet. They just need to find coach ASAP to save season. Nothing against João Pereira, but coach with zero experience can't manage such club like Sporting and I think we already saw enough that they're going nowhere with him.

It's quite clear to me that the reason for the 3 defeats in a row is the change of coach (there have already been 2 defeats in the league and one in the UCL).
But I understand that we can't blame the two coaches

Rubem Amorim was hired by Manchester United, and few coaches would turn down an offer from a big Premier League team.
While João Pereira was put in a situation in the middle of the championship that is not easy

If the team doesn't win in one or two games to calm things down, the team's situation could get very complicated, as Porto is almost on the same number of points
And I bet that even Benfica will have cheered up now and if they win both games, they could even pass Sporting's number of points.

Will be very influential indeed when team loses its best coach, Amorim has always been coach who has been able to handle Sporting well but after he left many people also believed in Joao Pereira ability as his replacement but now it is clear that Sporting is very different in terms of playing and they were really solid some time ago before Amorim left.
Whether Sporting will be able to defend the title or let it go to be fought over by Benfica or Porto what is clear is that we can all only get more precise answer when the end of the season has been reached and for the upcoming Sporting vs Benfica meeting, maybe it will be draw because how the conditions of both of them for some time to come cannot be predicted.

The introduction of a new manager could be the reason why sporting Lisbon are currently facing some difficulties at the moment which is quite normal as we have seen quite some clubs in Europe that have experienced similar trends, like AC Milan, AS Roma, Napoli, and even Manchester United, all of these clubs seemed a bit shaky when their respective coaches assumed office, but as time went on they began to adjust and now they seem to be doing fine. So it would only take some time for the Sporting Lisbon coach to introduce his own style of play to the team and the players would finally get used to it and they would start getting the results and then everything would fall in place.
Every change of coach requires time to adapt to see the player's character and also the pattern of play that suits the coach's wishes. After Amorim left for the Premier League, there seemed to be problems with Sporting Lisbon when they came out on the pitch. Many other teams in various leagues have the same situation because a coach will not last longer in one team and in the same league because they also need a different career and atmosphere.
However, each coach will have their own playing system so I am sure Sporting Lisbon will quickly adapt to their new manager and everything will look smooth.

I've been away from this thread for a while but now I'm back hehehe, there are a lot of games to follow and at the end of the year it's hard to balance everything with extra work and overtime

I can't say I was surprised by Sporting's two defeats because a change of coach usually changes the atmosphere, the way of playing and can make a team lose the championship.

I know that most of you don't follow Brazilian soccer, but last year Botafogo (who won the Libertadores last Saturday) spent a good part of the championship in first place undefeated, and in the middle of the championship it was “impossible” to think that the team would lose the title.
All they had to do was change the coach and the team managed the unbelievable feat of losing the league and going 10-12 games without a win

It was a huge loss for Sporting and I'm curious to see how it will reflect on the next few games
The lucky is that Porto lost a match too

Sporting suffered first loss thisseason, dropped first points in league and there issilence in this thread. Strange. No Amorim, no party? Their new coach João Pereira has almost zero experience as head coach, it's interesting decision of Sporting. And yesterday we saw different face of Sporting - they had ball posession, but so little good chances to score. Santa Clara probably deserved to win and reach sesnational 4th place. And remember that Sporting couldn't offer anything against Arsenal in Champions league few daysago. So, there is some concerns.

There is no need to panic over the performance of Sporting recently because they have been very outstanding in all competitions since the season started and hasn't lost any game until they met Arsenal in the Champions league last week and lost, and again the match they lost against Santa Clara on Saturday was also their first lose of the season in the Portuguese Primeira division. They are still topping the league table with 3 points ahead of Porto who won their match against Casa Pia AC yesterday and moved to the second position. Benfica have an outstanding match to play which if they win, they will reclaim the second position from Porto. I have a deep feeling that Sporting Lisbon will get back to form when they meet Moreirense on the 5th of this month, they will win Moreirense and still maintain their stay at the top of the table regardless of fact that the team is having a difficult time after Amorim's departure.

After departure of Ruben Amorim three games with 2 loses their attack is suddenly down as they are able to score only 1 goal in 2 big games mean things are not as we have under Amorim this could be huge below for them, and they can suffer badly in coming rounds even now we will be having Porto and Benfica back into title race which could be not easy for the Sporting to handle because João Pereira is having no experience but here we have few things positive for him in coming weeks we have too many easy games which can give them better results and confidence which is surely important for them.

At the end of December and in start of January we have most important time for Sporting and João Pereira because this will clear give all about their progress after Amorim in league and league cup where they will be host Porto.
