It may be too early for me to make this prediction, but Benfica does not inspire confidence in me. We will see what performance Benfica will show in the next games. I bet on them to beat CF Estrela. Since Benfica will be playing at home and CF Estrela is a team that has not yet won a game in the league, that is why I bet on Benfica to win. I saw news that Benfica intends to sell João Mario. In Benfica's last game, João Mario was treated hostilely by Benfica fans. Maybe that is one of the reasons why he wants to leave Benfica. I also do not know if Di Maria will play. Anyway, I bet on Benfica to win.

Benfica is a huge mess. In Portugal, no one understands what is happening. Even sports commentators cannot understand what the current coach's idea is for Benfica.

In the end, we may even be surprised, but currently we don't see a good season for Benfica.

Benfica - Porto (November 10, Benfica will lose)

Sporting - Benfica (December 29, Benfica will lose)

If Benfica loses before these 2 games, then I see Porto or Sporting, when they beat Benfica, moving far ahead of Benfica in the table. I also don't see this Benfica squad going far in any European competition. The truth is that Benfica, with this current coach, can't beat big teams most of the time.

Well, that's a very early prediction.

In fact, Benfica still has to clean up its house to have any chance of winning the championship. But, there are still two months to go, a lot can happen. Both for Benfica and for other clubs.

For now, Benfica seems to be the worst. And really this coach is not showing the same quality he showed in his first season.

Sporting Farense - Sporting CP ( I posted on Sporting to win the game, and at the moment I write this post, Sporting has already scored 4 goals and is winning the game. )

FC Porto - Rio Ave FC (I bet on Porto to win the game)

SL Benfica - CF Estrela (I bet on Benfica to win the game)

In the 2nd round, we don't see any big surprises among the big teams. Everyone won, with emphasis on Sporting, who scored the (first) rout of the season.

Viktor Gyökeres already made 3 goals  Cheesy
Is there any doubt that he'll be the top scorer again this season?

And now I'm starting my multiple bets, on Porto, Benfica and Sporting winning, paying 1.75  Cool

In the third round, Sporting Lisbon is playing with Farense which is an away match for Sporting Lisbon but which I think Sporting would win. Also Benfica will likely not disappoint this time again. My doubt is in FC Porto versus Rio Ave, but being a home match nullifies the doubt. I check some bookies the odds for these clubs are too small. I will still prefer first half win while also go for Manchester City versus Ipswich in England. In all these three matches on this league and Manchester City in English Premier League, there should not be a surprise at all again in this round. Do not mind me that I mentioned Man City, but it is just the only match that I went for in this round but I can see good picks also in this league. In 7 hours away, Farense versus Sporting match will begin.

It has been a while since we last saw back-to-back championships. There is no Benfica or Porto domination in the Liga Portugal since Sporting also joined the race.  Smiley

What do you think about Benfica to give Joao Neves and get Renato Sanches on loan from PSG in return? Joao Neves is a nice talent and €60m is quite the sum to sell him at.

Renato Sanches couldn't meet the expectations in his development I'm afraid.  Sad  By the way I wouldn't expect Rafa Silva to be released just like that. He was still making a huge score contribution in the previous season.

Benfica is a team with a great ability: " they can buy a player very cheaply, turn him into a great talent and then sell him for a very high price ". This way, even when Benfica doesn't become champion, they continue to make a lot of profit from selling players. Fortunately, in this round that ended recently, Benfica managed to win the game and scored 3 goals. But this victory didn't convince me that Benfica will be able to win the title this season. In my opinion, when Benfica plays against Porto or Sporting, they will lose. That's why it's better for Benfica to take advantage of these games they have next month and in October because things won't be easy for Benfica in November and things won't be easy for Benfica in December either.

Santa Clara 0 - 2 Porto (thanks to a fair penalty that Porto scored 2 goals in that game, I hope that this season they won't rely on the referees to win the games)

Nacional 1 - 6 Sporting (Sporting, as always, won convincingly, without any controversy involving referees.)

Benfica 3 - 0 Casa Pia (I'm still not convinced that Benfica can win the title this season)

Boavista 0 - 1 Braga (I may be wrong, but it seems to me that Braga is weaker this season compared to last season)

This round we don't have big upsets and favorites got relatively easy wins. Sporting had fun against league newcomers Nacional, scoring 6 goals. Only thing that I can say about Nacional is that their stadium is in very nice location.
Benfica 3:0 win against Casa Pia looks easy on paper, but it's worth to mention that it took them 70 minutes to score 1st goal.

It'sdifficult to compare these two players. One is big talent, other was promising player who wasted his talent. Damn, I remember how big hype around Sanches was in his young days. Agree about Neves, a bit surprised that he left for free as free agent.

Last season Vitoria started very well and led the league at the beginning
Do you think another team, apart from Sporting, Porto and Benfica, can start better too and then lose the position to the 3?

I'm not sure about that, we know that Sporting, Benfica and Porto have a strong legacy, and what they have now is difficult for other teams to replace, the possibility is still there, but it is only a small possibility. BTW, Benfica started the season quite badly, they lost to Famalicao without scoring a single goal, then today they will face Casa Pia, if their performance is bad again, I don't know what to say for them.

I'm a little late to the thread, but the reason is that I was focused on the Olympics hahaha and unfortunately I didn't have much success with the bets
It is just about having fun. But I do not like to bet on those kind of matches. This is because the result is more uncertain than the ones we use to, like leagues competitions. All bets are risky but I prefer to just go for leagues competitions. I only watch some matches in Olympics.

Last year, before the championship started, I predicted that Porto would win, and needless to say, I failed
I'm going to be stubborn again and my early guess for champion will be Porto again hehehehe
Sporting CP is still a good competitor. We can not underestimate Benfica also but it has started poorly which is reducing the chance of the club already.

I do not think so. If both Sporting CP and Porto win away matches in the next match, it will not be easy for other clubs while playing with both clubs.

Below is the list of games for the second round. Will Benfica be able to recover from the defeat in the previous game?
It will not be a surprise if Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto and Benfica are the first three clubs on the Portuguese Primeira Liga table this season again. The competition in the league is within those three clubs as usual while club like Braga may only try. It was an away match for Benfica. The next match would be a home match. The chance that Benfica would win the match is high. But if it was a goal that his opponent scored to win, it would have been convincing. With 2 goals, I do not think Benfica is what betting on but I guess it the club would win the next match. Although, I can not bet on the match.

Benfica lost at home against Famalicao. For Benfica, who lost in the first week of the league, not starting the season well will hopefully not affect them in the remaining weeks. Against Famalicao they didn't have many chances to get many shots on target.
The new team of the league, Santa Clara, on the other hand, scored a goal against Estoril away from home. Santa Clara scored 4 goals and made a good start in their new league.
Benfica football team could not do any single goal and and that team lose the match by high margin. Match was one sided all time we saw match in the favour of Famalicão footbal team . They did 2 goals in this match . Sorriso was top performer of this match because he did first goal of this match and he did goal at the the time of 12 minutes and after we expected that Benfica team will goal and we will see good match but our expectations was wrong and  Benfica could not play well in this match . Players body language was not perfect,So they lose the match by 2-0 score. Youssouf did second goal of the match and team  and match was ended with result in the favour of Famalicão team.

The championship has already started, and after the frist match day of play, we had the first surprise, with Benfica losing to Famalicão.
I went for first half win for both Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto. Just like I have posted before, the last time I tried it, the club I chose won but it was second half and I lost the match. But I won both on a separate bet this time with little amount of money. The reason I did not go for Benfica is that the season has just started and it is an away match. Clubs have probability of losing in away matches than home matches except in just minor cases.

I don't think history can be taken as a factor as that is mostly superstition rather than a true happening despite history saying so.Let me make you an analogy in another sport but that fits in here really well and that is in 2008 when Lewis Hamilton needed to win in Brazil or at least finish 5th to get the title and Brazilian fans gave him the T-shirt of Vasco de Gama claiming to be the eternal second place in the Brazilian Serie A,yet Hamilton we all know won his first title.

The same can be said here, despite history saying it will be difficult for Benfica to win the title based on statistics this should in no way be an obstacle or psychological obstacle to all Benfica team and I think based on the players they have it was just a coincidence that they lost,if they play another 10 times against Famalicao I am sure they can win all those other 10 games.

Benfica are also away from home, could be the reason why they have such odds. It is tempting for any player to take.
Zaydou Youssouf later scored when the match was about to end which makes Famalicao to win with 2 goals scored. I always not prefer to bet on away match which makes me not to go for this match as it is also the start of the season. It is a real disappointment for Benfica fans.

I watched the game and it was a very boring game. Normally when I watch Benfica games, even when they lose, at least they play well. However, in the case of the game against Famalicao, Benfica played very badly. They didn't pose any danger to Famalicao's defense. Benfica's coach didn't put Di Maria on right from the start. I don't understand why Benfica's coach did that. The Portuguese news channels are criticizing Benfica's coach a lot because he managed to make history for Benfica for the worst reasons: Is the first time that Benfica lose in the first league game in two consecutive seasons. Benfica's board should have fired Benfica's coach before this new season started.

Benfica's defeats in the first league game

Only once has Benfica become champion after losing in the first league game. Looking at how many times throughout history Benfica has lost in the first league game, you can see that this defeat is a bad sign. It is unlikely that Benfica will be champion. Benfica has lost 14 times in the first league game and has only become champion once after losing in the first league game. After watching the game, I have little hope that Benfica will win the league with Roger Schmidt.
