When is the Premier League likely to resume?

After a meeting between the clubs on April 17, it was announced that the Premier League ‘will only restart when medical guidance allows’.

The situation is clearly evolving day-by-day and the league did not offer a deadline by which play must resume.

The Premier League remain determined to complete the current season and avoid it being written off completely.

Statement

“We are acutely aware of the distress COVID-19 is causing and our thoughts are with all those directly affected by the pandemic.

“In common with other businesses and industries, the Premier League and our clubs are working through complex planning scenarios. We are actively engaging with stakeholders, including broadcast partners, and our aim is to ensure we are in a position to resume playing when it is safe to do so and with the full support of the Government.

“The health and well-being of players, coaches, managers, club staff and supporters are our priority and the league will only restart when medical guidance allows.

“Today’s shareholders’ meeting provided an opportunity to discuss possible scheduling models. It remains our objective to complete the 2019-20 season but at this stage all dates are tentative while the impact of COVID-19 develops.

“In response to the pandemic, the Premier League, our clubs and players have provided vital support for communities and the NHS and will continue to do so after matches recommence.”

Any way, to get back on topic it’s good that the PL clubs & officials agreed the season will still be finished.
It really should. There is still time.
Liverpool would be incredibly unfortunate if they don't end up being awarded the Premier League title in case it doesn't resume for some reason.

I think I read somewhere that the UEFA chief said he can’t envisage a scenario where Liverpool won’t be crowned champions. Even if they void the season they’ll be champions like Scotland & Belgium are doing. Possibly nobody will be relegated & West Brom & Leeds will be promoted so we’d have 22 teams in next seasons PL & 5 will be relegated next season instead of 3.

@DeathAngel either you don’t know about China’s politics or you really believe in them a lot either way they’re not to be trusted, and they’re definitely lying about the number of people who have died due to coronavirus in their country.

I wouldn't trust China and I've always doubted their numbers after seeing what happened in Italy, but the Trump is also not trustworthy and would say almost anything to save face of his administration and AFAICT, the US brought these numbers upon themselves due to ignorance.

Back to the EPL, there are definitely planing to resume the league, but It's not going to happen anytime soon with these numbers, else there will serious consequences from the media and other human affairs agencies.

Guys, I think it's happening:  All English Football League games to resume behind closed doors and broadcast on TV or online

No official date yet but I think football action will resume in [the last few days of] May and probably early June. Number of new confirmed coronavirus cases is yet to start a downward movement in the UK, but hopefully it'll start going down this month or next month.
The problem with the current world order is money. They seem to care less and less about a few lives lost so long as they generate money. Just like some members here, i don't even see these leagues resuming behind closed doors any time soon. May or June is a very short time frame.

No vaccine has been approved yet, the virus has not even shown signs of slowing down and this Football Associations think that the horizon is near?

They are mistaken. Heck look what happened to China Yesterday... New number of deaths jumped to 1290 in 24 hours just when they thought they had started to manage the situation and even loosened the lockdown.

I think China are definitely lying about their death numbers, they’re just trying to make it look more realistic which it doesn’t. How could they possibly have so few deaths, it’s ridiculous.

Any way, to get back on topic it’s good that the PL clubs & officials agreed the season will still be finished.

@tomahawk9 indeed they’re planning to resume the league by June 8, and my worst fears are coming true that it’ll be played behind closed doors which will make the league very boring to watch. @logfiles I’ll second that as the league should not have resumed until July at least, and I’m not even sure how they plan to keep the support staff and the players safe during these matches. @DeathAngel either you don’t know about China’s politics or you really believe in them a lot either way they’re not to be trusted, and they’re definitely lying about the number of people who have died due to coronavirus in their country.

It's hard to get the news out from China and why would they give wrong information? It seems they got things in control.

I think it is more about being able to continue this rather than just profits. If the football world stops even for a second, they are losing millions of dollars worth of revenue and their whole system depends on that revenue, without it they can't continue, hell they are having hard time as it is without cash injections anyway so if they stop at any moment they are basically done. Look at City for example, they literally had to break the financial fair play rules just to be this good, if a team has to break the rules to continue being good, think how horrible they will become when there are no games at all.

So yeah it is sad that players will basically be forced to play in order to keep getting money, however at the same time if we just tell the owners and the office just keep the games away for a little more while until this is any better, we might be looking at more than just players getting few millions less, we are talking about potentially having hundreds of millions of dollars gone from the industry all of a sudden.

I still don't get all of these "companies" making people live with less when they could have literally paid all of this easily if they simply kept all the profits. Hell they could sell ownership a bit (like very very tiny) and still manage to pay everyone.

Now, it is said that Arsenal players are agreeing on a 12.5% cut for example, I get that players care about their health right now and nobody really thinks about the few hundred thousand pounds they are going to miss out on since they have millions of pounds but it is still sad that all of this trouble comes out of employees (even if they are million dollar worth) instead of employers, same goes for any business out there who doesn't pay their workers right now, either fires them or sends them on unpaid leave so forth, it is really sad sight to see.

Arteta seems to know what he’s doing, City fell apart a bit when he left too. I wouldn’t write Arsenal off from finishing in the top 4 next season my friend.

As a Spurs fan, of course I always hope that Arsenal do not do well,,, or at least, never finish above us;) But I agree here people like Arteta have a good sense of coaching and as former players they also understand the guys on the field who kick the ball. I think Arsenal can go up if they fix their very old issues of mentality (same as Spurs, mentality issues).

I fear for Spurs to be honest, I think Kane might look to move if he’s able to this summer. I’m not sure if Mourinho is as effective as he used to be.

They only need a few things to win the trophy.
At least they have to win a few more matches to get the EPL trophy this season. I also think that Liverpool are the happiest club if this season can continue, and the other is the club that will replace the Manchester City in the Champions League. Although there is no clear certainty about the schedule, but for me this effort has provided a bit of excitement for the club, fans, and gamblers. Hopefully the agreement can be realized.

Although Tottenham have a coach who has a lot of experience in big clubs, but I think it will be more difficult for Spurs because they are mentally less powerful than other big teams.
If Spurs make big changes to players maybe that can happen but it takes time too because this season they may not be champions even in the next few years.
Coaches and players are those who can bring change to the club where they work. But building a winning mentality is a difficult endeavor for any coach. Pep Guardiola is a great coach, but he is very difficult to build the mentality of his players to win the Champions League.

They talked about how long it could take to play out the games. if it was safe to start.

No decision on timeframes. Another meeting scheduled for 01/May?

Smart is not enough, there must be skills
I believe there is an EPL meeting again at 10:30am today to again try & decide how it is best to proceed. Watch this space again I guess.

How many times have EPL officials held this meeting? Has there been a clear decision? because there are rumors that the EPL will continue to run in June with doors closed and people confined.

Even so, I think the two of them will still be considered big clubs in the EPL even though they rarely end the season as champions. Tottenham coached by Mauricio Pochettino can be seen as a dangerous club but I think Mourinho also has a lot of experience to make him even more dangerous. Mental issues, I think it must be the second priority of the club if they want to win the trophy at the end of the season. But not this season. Cheesy

No official statement from NHS on the downward trend of epidemic in UK, that will be used as support for the plan to resume sport events. Positively, we know some major leagues in the Europe really want to finish the season if there are chances for them to do that. In the Premier League, Liverpool will be the club feels most happily if the league will be resumed. They only need a few things to win the trophy.

^  I'd give Mou three transfer windows (summer, winter, summer) then it's make or break.  I mean it doesn't have to be the league trophy but they should be in the running for it at least.

I agree, and definitely they should also be in the running for any of the available league cups.
Pochettino made incredible progress, but his major undoing was failing to win a single title at Spurs.
Clubs naturally would prioritize; good football and consistency, but the fans need something to cheer about from time to time.
Mourinho knows how to win titles, but can he give Tottenham the consistency to remain a top four team? And would a trophy or two be enough to save his job should he fall below their current standard in the league?

Based on the EPL champion data from 1992 to 2019, I think Arsenal have a better winning mentality compared to Tottenham. Arsenal have won 3 EPL trophies so far and none have been won by Tottenham.

1992-1993 Manchester United
1993-1994 Manchester United
1994-1995 Blackburn Rovers
1995-1996 Manchester United
1996-1997 Manchester United
1997-1998 Arsenal
1998-1999 Manchester United
1999-2000 Manchester United
2000-2001 Manchester United
2001-2002 Arsenal
2002-2003 Manchester United
2003-2004 Arsenal
2004-2005 Chelsea
2005-2006 Chelsea
2006-2007 Manchester United
2007-2008 Manchester United
2008-2009 Manchester United
2009-2010 Chelsea
2010-2011 Manchester United
2011-2012 Manchester City
2012-2013 Manchester United
2013-2014 Manchester City
2014-2015 Chelsea
2015-2016 Leicester City
2016-2017 Chelsea
2017-2018 Manchester City
2018-2019 Manchester City

Next season, if Jose Mourinho will has his position in Spurs, and with some good transfer in next summer, Spurs will improve their mentality and then their performance. The Special One is very strong in mentality and he can help Spurs' players to have more solid mentality and strong belief on their ability. If I have to compare mentality between Spurs' and Arsenal' players, I would say Spurs' players are better. Arsenal has their strong mentality about 2 decades ago but last 5 seasons, they lost it entirely.
