Yes, there's indeed a good chance that the Qatar World Cup was going to be the last World Cup for the both of them considering their age and the timetable of the next World Cup that will be hosted by the United States of America. Although, both of them haven't spoke yet about the likeliness of this matter but I've read an article that said that CR7's last dance will be in UEFA Euro this coming 2024.

Winning the world cup is once in a lifetime opportunity. Messi was fortunate enough to have his name inscribed in world cup trophy. This was his last chance and he managed to win the world cup. At the same time, this was the last world cup (probably) for Cristiano Ronaldo as well. Unlike Messi, he had a rather forgettable tournament where he was continuously humiliated by his own team. Qatar 2022 was probably the last major tournament for these players as well - Pepe, Dani Alves, Thiago Silva and Danny Vukovic. The oldest player was Alfredo Talavera (only player who was aged 40 or more).   

It was as tough ride for the whole team before they reached to the Finals and their opponent that time wasn't easy either because it was France that has tough and agile players as well. Many believed that Mbappe and the whole team will be the ones to go home with the trophy but the opposite happened because Argentina defended it well, so that they will be the ones who will go home celebrating the win.

As a Messi fan, I'm glad to see him winning the World Cup as that's the only thing missing in his collection and I'm happy that he actually completed it before he retired. As everyone thinks, including me, I do really think that this will be his last World Cup.

I don't think so, because it is a matter of tactics of the two coaches. fortunately, Scaloni's strategy and formula worked and were effective. we can see, that Didie Descamps would not have thought that D Maria would be played from the early minutes. Scaloni knows that France has weaknesses in the defense line, namely from the Jules Kounde sector. how come, because Scaloni knows very well that Dembele rarely goes down to help his team's defense. plus, Alexis Mac Allister stepped forward a little so that Kounde couldn't help but have to overshadow him.

in the end, D Maria has free space to dribble with her skills. and goals created two goals for Argentina.

on the French side, Descamps' foresight deliberately pulled Dembele and Giroud out of the field to get Scaloni's attention to relax his attacks. and apparently, Descamps' bait was eaten raw by Scaloni who thought Argentina was already in a safe position and Scaloni pulled D maria and was replaced by Acuna. in fact no, the inclusion of Kingsley Coman threw Argentina's formation into disarray. moreover, the strategy implemented in the first half was countered by the French defense line because Coman helped defend his team. in the end, Argentina had to be forced into a penalty shoot-out. but in the end, luck sided with the Argentinian Squad and Lionel Messi.
Regarding Messi's achievements, we don't need to debate anymore. that he had won a trophy that he had previously dreamed of.

The story of Messi's last chance to become world champion was so intense and so well received by the public that it was to be expected that the Argentine national team would have a mild support from the FIFA structures to go all the way in the competition and become world champions.
I don't know if any national team has had so many penalties awarded in their favor in the history of the World Cup.
Nevertheless, regardless of everything, it cannot be said that the Argentine national team did not deserve to become the world champion.
Messi was the best player at the World Cup, and they played really well in defense.
However, without Messi they will not be favorites for the new world champion title in 4 years.

I think Messi winning the world cup was the right ending, it was just nice to see his career end like that. A nice wrap up of a fantastic player history.

On the other hand, seeing Cristiano Ronaldo going to play now at Saudi Arabia seems like his career ended on a very different path. He reminded me of Pirlo who is now doing non-soccer ads for Qatar.

You are right - Messi was given so much advantage at one point my brother said - they will make Argentina win the world cup - - on the other hand my favourite Ronaldo has now officially joined AL Nasser - and his followed increased drastically - Saudis have given him an immense protocol and he is the most loved and admired celebrity.

I think the world cup was really meany for Messi which is from Argentina because there were so many favor that was given to Messi including red card but was still ignored. The world cup was one of the most interesting world cup I have ever watch that the final was really interesting with other countries team that made it a remarkable one. It was true that Ronaldo that would have make it to the final couldn't reach it.

I think this is just the proper time for Argentina to win the World cup, France tried their possible best with all their best performance but couldn't win the world cup. Messi deserve to be a world cup champion and he ended up having it towards the era of the end of his career.

I agree with you, I am personally happy for Messi, he did put his best in in their finals match against France, though i cant ignore Mbappe's efforts, that guy is damn so good that at some point in the game, i began to wish and hope that France would win the World cup again, but knowing that this could possibly be Messi's last world cup, i knew he deserved to win it, and i am glad that he later did together with his team .

The 2022 world cup finals was suspense filled, it was one of the hottest football match I've ever watched.

We didn't see what we were expecting from teams, their was so many changes in the performance of teams. The world cup was so hard to predict, Africa teams showed good performance better than before.

The world was watching them and he was too lousy with his award. But at the end they won and took home the title.

There were other goalkeeper too who did so well during the world cup - although the players played so well. and at the last moment the whole burden in on the goalkeeper. luckily Martinez won.
