Sheesh. It's just a forum filled with assholes writing rubbish in the main. ...
That's cynical, unfortunately not far from the truth but still.
As the amount of merits gathered by OP shows, a lot of members care for for this place.
Some of us are somewhat concerned with at least some quality, not a mistake to promote such stance.
This mount rushmore you have mentioned is already here, its called ivory tower. No need to build another place, just use that section more, this of course if you are interested in more genuine conversations.
I totally get it that one can become cynical after quite a few years inside a melting pot like this forum is. Yet, it doesn't have to be inescapable view point, right? All I'm suggesting is adding more ethos, more significance by referring ourselves to something bigger then bitcoin itself, the idea of it.

I'm asking this because it feels to me, that legendary members should be a bit more, like... legendary?  Roll Eyes
In my eyes only a few deserves this status, those who where influential but are no longer with us.

Sheesh. It's just a forum filled with assholes writing rubbish in the main. I guess we could crowd fund a Bitcointalk Mt Rushmore somewhere cheap and underpopulated like Kamchatka if it's that meaningful.

Many of the previous forum mainstays of the deep past, who might fit that image of battling for our futures with their bare breasts dangling, turned out to be scammers or went nuts anyway just like most who came after.

Arriving earlier or spouting rubbish for longer in no way makes someone somehow more pious.

I thought I explained in the OP message.
Indirectly maybe, because you are focusing on merits rather than ranking up.

Those who are mentioned a lot but never respond, those who we know that are dead.
If it was up to me, I would prefer to stay a hero. It says something, it implies that I'm still fighting for the adoption, awareness etc.
I do realise I'm talking about semantics, who actually cares what the name of your next, upper rank will be... well I do for example.
How else we gonna honour those, who where here before us?

Of course I am the person always ready to put me in discussion, and I genuinely think this helped me a lot to engage in more different topics. Even in WO thread, where I post train memes and serious content.
Why? Why this became your goal?
I see there is no paid signature under your profile, so this can not be solely about the money.
Thread is filled with all sorts of congratulations, but nobody seem to asked you this question, how becoming a legend will benefit you?
I have nothing against aspirations like that but when the agenda is unclear, I start to wonder.

I thought I explained in the OP message.
It's about the KNOWLEDGE.
I fell into the Bitcoin rabbit hole long ago and I still haven't fully recovered.
The money come with my initial investment and a little bit of stashing sats, not from signature campaigns.
This doesn't mean anything on campaigns per se, I could also join some in the future, but they are not the main reason because I am on the forum. Everyone is free to find their best way to gain sats.

I have no charisma.
You are too self-critical. And I'm too perceptive to blame everything on hard work and luck. But you are the boss here, and it would be impolite of me to spoil your holiday. You are a nice guy and really deserve it all. Little merit in your piggy bank from Sancho, enjoy. Smiley

My ego wasn’t pinched, but last thing I want to do is make this thread an auto celebration.
I have no charisma.
I came on this forum as a complete stranger, 0 posts and 0 merits.
I studied (a lot) and also learnt a lot.
Of course I am the person always ready to put me in discussion, and I genuinely think this helped me a lot to engage in more different topics. Even in WO thread, where I post train memes and serious content.

The topic was probably originally intended to be inspirational for newbies, many of whom dropped their hands after the introduction of the merit system. But gradually, all this degenerated into a vanity fair, alas. Congratulations to fillippone on a successful forum career, because there are really good tips here. Whether they give a complete recipe for success, or we see here a clear example of the "survivorship bias" is the question.

Tell me when and what made thins degenerate in a vanity fair and I will censor that.

Perhaps I have a wrong understanding of what is happening, sorry I did not want to pinch your ego. I have no doubt that you deserve the rank of Hero and even Legendary. But all of your tips individually and together do not guarantee success, they can only protect from making serious mistakes by a beginner. The most powerful component of your success is your personal charisma, without it your tips will does not work. Smiley

I don't understand the concept of actively desiring to "rank up".

Just try to have some fun on this place without being too much of lunatic.

Everything else is gravy.

Change of mindset, f*** off bob we only want merit and  to rank up !!!!

Small joke, certainly #no homo and obviously bob’s right

Understand that your fan based also contribute to some extent. If you're active on a particular section of the forum and have earned what is called merit fan based, they merit your quality posts outside that section too. You can observe these from users that are active on their local boards or other part of the forum like WO, scam accusation board etc. The merit fan based doesn't necessary mean they're practicing favoritism but that's how the human mind subconsciously is programmed.

In the case of @fillippone his fan based from WO who're well informed about his quality contributions can easily merit his other posts irrespective of the section of the forum they're posted at. Nevertheless the main aim of the merit system shouldn't be forgetting and like @micgoossens have just said, lets not make it a competition as currently that's how it's been displayed due to all the stats and ranking analysis.

I am very relaxed at writing. And I tend not to make merits a competition, rather than some sort of "positive feedback" on the things I am writing about.
Take my last post on futures: it has been a very long work, and of course I took pride and made me happy to receive feedback via merits received.
I would have written that post also without merit system, and I will eventually write other posts (like the one on options, when are launched by CME), even if this post had 0 merits. But of course knowing someone appreciate your work it helps.

Regarding merit bragging, self imposed stats, etc. I tend to discuss these only in this particular thread, updating the numbers in the OP. this is like keeping a diary of my incredible voyage here on the forum. Nothing else.

Just don't let the merits be a competition.... To be a well respected member, a person that nobody dislike of his writings is far more important and yes fillippone gets a lot of merit in the WO, his post are a lot with very good content, there is some humor and when someone is OT he replies to the post with good answers...

But stay a bit humble of-course and not write to much of the merit earning, members will notice this without posting it as well Cheesy

Always know the merit system isn't flawless but was brought with a purpose, to avoid spam etc
For me the every other thread about merit is a bit spam as well all the merit talk from 100 different threads could easily been handled in 3 or 4 threads.

But to many try to start out some to gain some Roll Eyes

Its an achievement getting merit fast but the activity is more important and to get Legendary activity give room enough to steadily gain merit so the day of becoming Legendary merit shouldn't be an issue if you post well enough, some times with content outside places like the WO sometimes in places like the WO

But I do know for fillippone he's merits comes from all over the forum places where is interested in of writing at, so stay doing your thing!

Btw not all members can come to the WO community earning merit, you have to build up some credibility there as well, lots of lots try to post there for easy merit and failed trying Cheesy

I figure he meant adding every where but WO, and not circumscribing to a specific board …
Nevertheless, if @gentlemand’s challenge were to be accepted, this is the historical merit distribution in "Bounties (Altcoins)":
Code:
Year	Month	nTx	nMerits
2019 9 5 8
2019 8 13 27
2019 7 5 14
2019 6 14 28
2019 5 11 21
2019 4 20 30
2019 3 25 215
2019 2 19 60
2019 1 27 49
2018 12 14 24
2018 11 35 78
2018 10 43 48
2018 9 92 169
2018 8 36 59
2018 7 75 315
2018 6 84 168
2018 5 118 395
2018 4 138 382
2018 3 258 537
2018 2 425 930
2018 1 399 1053
More than I expected on aggregate, but clearly in the few dozens at most now. Quite amazing during most of 2018 ...

Legendary outside WO: challenge accepted.

If you're truly serious then let's see you become a self made legendary entirely from here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=238.0

I reckon there is somewhere around 1-10 merit available from ALL of the users there. I think you can manage that around the same time the very final satoshis are mined.

I accept the suggestion of being more humble.
It’s easy to brag yourself with a lot of hubris when you succeed in hoarding in a lot of merits and topping various merit-related statistics on the forum.
Please allow me to be a little over the lines only in this thread.

Yes, lots of merits come from WO, but I don’t think they are lower quality one.
Also i think I wave enough merits earned on high-quality threads.
Example: last 60ish merits are earned on a long post about futures.
I think that work more than compensate a few merits on train related merits on WO.

EDIT:
Doing some number fuckery with LoyceV data and some manual counting:
At the time of writing:
I have 1233 Merits.
I earned 351 merits in the WO thread.

28,50% of the total merits gained on WO.
So I earned 882 Merits Outside WO thread.
Almost legendary merit-wise outside WO.

Legendary outside WO: challenge accepted.

I guess everyone has his merit- related Stigma:
Legendary outside WO.
Legendary outside Meta.

Wondering how to make everyone happy.
I can't, probably.

I am the most merited Senior Member ok the Forum, and I have time to improve until Oct, 9th when My activity will clock and I will be promoted to Hero!
I think you should be a little bit more humble and discreet IMO, most of your merits come from the Wall Observer thread obviously...   Roll Eyes
With this kind of topic you are just encouraging people to lazily chat on these threads instead of encouraging them to make higher quality messages in the main parts of the forum(which was the initial goal of the merits AFAIK)
