It's great that you managed to deal with this problem on your own, as far as I understand. Indeed, the method of replacing gambling addiction with other activities, in this case work, is an effective tool. Viewing information about positive examples of getting rid of gambling addiction is also a great way to fight. It is like when quitting smoking, it is recommended to constantly rejoice that another day has passed without tobacco. Well, spending money on necessary payments with friends creates a feeling of support, although it is a bit of a specific way, nevertheless, it is effective.

It is good if you realize about what happen to you because the accepting of the situation that we face is not easy. But you can do that and can learns from your mistake and wants to change it. You see that having control is necessary and a must in gambling to avoid playing gambling excessively. When we realizes about the risk of playing gambling and we learned from our past, we can be careful when playing gambling. We don't wants to get the same experienced as before so we will always control ourselves when playing gambling.

We know that is not easy to stay aware from gambling but we can keeps trying and learning so we can use gambling as one activity that helps us to use our spare time. But we don't have to use gambling if we think that can give risk too big for us and use the other activities as @OP mention. It is no problem if you still involve in gambling but now, you can control yourself with right and will not do the same thing as before.

Someone who is addicted will not be easy to recover, this is like a drug addiction, maybe there must be a strict disciplined rehabilitation stage. I once experienced an addiction that was not too severe but what happened to my neighbor was worse because he lost his property, assets, house, even his own wife because he was annoyed by his excessive gambling behavior.
This happened because he himself could not recover from his addiction which was caused by the idea of gambling being attached to his brain so that it was difficult to eliminate, even reducing it was difficult.

There are actually many examples that we can see and learn from the cases that have occurred. It's just that there are still many people who gamble by ignoring the many cases of negative impacts of gambling that have occurred, the problem is more about each person's awareness.
Yeah it's not easy to recover from any kind addiction because if something that can make people addicted because it gives dopamine and satisfaction to the user. It's start from the person to try to quit, without this, it's high likely they will back to be addicted.

@OP is a good example how can a gambling addict can slowly recover from the addiction.

Unfortunately not all gambling addicts aware with their activity and they will gamble until they die.

As I commented to you in the other thread, in your case the best thing to do is to leave it for good. If you look at Oshosondy, who left it dry and says that this year he has gambled a few times with small amount he recommends the same, and is that for a person who has had these problems, betting even little can trigger again the pattern of binge gambling.

Besides, the problem I see with this is that you can lose a fortune in a short time. A heroin or cocaine addict can't take thousands of dollars worth of drugs in a day, but with gambling you can lose them in minutes.

So be careful and keep it up.

I would say that knowledge alone isn’t enough but selfcontrol is even more important.

That's right, if it happens as in many things in life. People know what they have to do to lose weight but very few do it. You have to create the conditions in your life to avoid temptation.

It is indeed difficult for us as humans who are always trapped in gambling, even though there are many gambling promotions from all over the world that make us unable to avoid it, what's more, gambling sites have penetrated the digital world so whatever we can to avoid serious addiction to gambling, even though we ourselves are promoting gambling sites but with this thread chat. we can control ourselves so as not to get caught up in gambling that makes us addicted which endangers our finances in the future, with tips from OP at least we can take an example from OP's journey to stop being addicted to gambling.

I would love to hear about your experiences if you faced addiction or any opinions, suggestions, or stories you like to share. Let’s support one another on this journey.

I understand the feeling; you have to suffer a lot for realization to come that you have to give it up and the recovery process is tedious, There should be a change of behavior, like a big turn around I have mine getting busy from work and no time to leisure because when you are thinking about leisure you will end up playing in a gambling platform because some of your best memory about gambling is being entertained, so I tried to shun it out until such time I developed the habit of your best memory about gambling is being entertained so I tried to shun it out until such time I developed the habit of not looking at gambling as a soirce of income

- Keeping myself busy and focusing on work.

Hello GxSTxV,

Thank you for sharing your story. It takes immense courage to open up about such a personal journey, and your honesty is inspiring. As you mentioned, keeping yourself busy and focusing on work has been a key strategy for you to stay away from gambling. This aligns perfectly with a principle from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear, which emphasizes the importance of replacing bad habits with good ones.

Clear explains that habits are like a void in our lives: when we remove a bad habit, we need to fill that gap with a positive one, or the temptation to revert will eventually creep back. By dedicating yourself to productive work and engaging in fulfilling activities, you're not just keeping busy but also building an environment where the bad habit of gambling has less room to thrive.

Keep going, and know that you're not alone in this. If you haven't read Atomic Habits, I highly recommend it it might offer more tools and encouragement to support your path.

Wishing you strength and success.

You are doing a great thing to cure your gambling addiction and I am sure we are supporting you so you have a second chance to have a better life. You already have enough experienced in gambling and you need to stop that before everything ruins and destroy without any left. If you can control yourself better than before, that is good for you because you have a positive result and good progress while you are in the recovery process of your gambling addiction. What you say about the strategies to prevent you from returning to casinos is good and those who feels the same can try what you do. Finally, you can do better than before and keep what you do now to have strong control over yourself.

Congratulations. It takes a lot to recognize and realize that you have a problem and you’re taking the steps and making the effort to fix that problem. Just take it one day at a time and leave out all the negativity.  I understand the journey you are on I have won big lost even bigger, even borrowed where I should not have and that nearly cost me my life. When facing with addiction, we tend to lose control and get sucked into that void.

My best advice for you would be surround yourself with family and friends (real friends who cares) positive people and maybe pick up fishing. It’s outdoors and relaxing. That’s what I do.

All's well that ends well. You've done a great job recovering from the mess you've been through. And now your life is a lesson to others. May other gamblers who fell into addiction take a lesson or two from your success story.

What's actually interesting in your story is that you're able to succeed despite being constantly exposed to gambling itself. Self-control and discipline are probably more difficult to maintain when you're being confronted daily by the same monsters that once defeated you. Your work and lifestyle are in gambling and yet you manage to keep yourself away from gambling. You're the man!

Congratulations!

Addiction is an intense desire where an addicted gambler cannot easily recover from gambling. Although at first he indulges himself in gambling with the intention of having fun, but later when he realizes that gambling can create terrible bad situations for him, if he wants to stop gambling, he cannot stop it no matter how hard he tries. However, both are possible for those who take physiological and psychological treatment, but the number of gamblers who get rid of such a situation is very less.

If Parhaps we dont greedy to become successful from gambling or chasing after loses, I don't think it will have cause alot of addiction that happens to most of us. Let just try and play safe.

There are many incidents in my life, among which I will mention a losing bet last week, I mainly like sports betting and I bet the most on sports. Last week I bet on Manchester City team and I bet the usual amount of money there but they lost this match, and I was basically disappointed why it happened. In this way, I have suffered a lot of losses. I have lost the most by betting on Manchester City team where I am still unlucky, so for the last few days I have retired from betting.
Again, when I have the mentality and money saved up again, the will to bet will increase, because I may have made mistakes but I am not addicted to betting. Because I used to bet three to four days a week and the rest of the days I take a break or a holiday so that I am free from addiction.

Mine story is no more new on this forum. I was addicted since 2014 and lost money until 2019. That was 5 years. After losing huge amount of money, I knew I had to stop gambling. I stopped for a year. I gambled again and I noticed I can get addicted again and I stopped. Until now. I rarely gambie now and I can control it. But my advice for you is just not to gamble anymore. I have not gambled more than 20 times this year and I do not think I used more than $50 in total. So I can control it and I do not think if gambling at all. Probably because I got job already that is keeping me busy and not have time for it. Even if I have time, I do not think I will use it to gamble.

Its repetitive process and once you get involve again with this activity then there's huge chance for affected person like you to come back with that stage.

More better for people have addiction thoughts should avoid any things that can lead or redirect them to gambling. Since if you or OP could see something fun happening especially this season lots of promotion running and many people talk about gambling related topics which provably can hype them, then make people have addiction thoughts to gamble back again.

I also think its more better to join community support groups which they can get support and good advice to their fellow affected person to stay away on this situation. We can find those groups on Meta(Facebook) and for sure they can read various stories to learn from it.

Dear Gambling Community

I have been an active contributor to our gambling community here in Bitcointalk for a long time now. Over the past years I worked as a community manager and live streamer in a few casinos. I have shared much of my knowledge about this field and always strived to be honest. About six months ago I created a topic discussing my decision to take a break from gambling excessively. I had noticed my increased in gambling that time not only in spending more money but also in dedicating more time to it.

However, a few months later I made a series of bad decisions. I gambled away a significant amount of money that was meant to pay off an important loan. On top of that, I borrowed more money and lost it again. I decided to share my story honestly with this community and with myself. Gambling is dangerous and not just for new players but also for experienced ones like me who are fully aware of its risks. I would say that knowledge alone isn’t enough but selfcontrol is even more important. Looking back to my situation it was greed and the desire to make money easily that tricked me into addiction.

This topic is dedicated to discussing my healing process and the first steps I have taken to rebuild my life. I decided not to chase my losses and have self-excluded my accounts from many casinos. I won’t lie to you, over the past month I felt the urge to gamble for fun. But what has helped me to not do it is the support and encouragement from this community and some of its members, to restart everything and find more jobs.

Here are a few strategies I found helpful in staying away from gambling all this time:
- Keeping myself busy and focusing on work.
- Watching documentaries about people recovering from gambling addiction and how they have turned their lives around to the best.
- Spending the money I earn on paying bills and expenses beside the friends I took loand from, which brings me relief and a sense of control fighting the chaos gambling created in my life.

That said, I still remain in touch with the gambling field as part of my work and lifestyle which I genuinely enjoy. My deep knowledge of this field feels valuable to me and I choose not to let it go to waste. While this close connection between my healing process and working in the gambling industry is without actually gambling, doesn’t tempt me anymore. Day by day, the desire to gamble is fading and I feel stronger in my journey.

I would love to hear about your experiences if you faced addiction or any opinions, suggestions, or stories you like to share. Let’s support one another on this journey.

Warm regards,
GxSTxV

It is great that you are sharing your experiences and the process of working back to normality. A lot of people stay stuck in the gambling rut for their whole lives and it can end up as a sad form of denial when they have lost so much money. If someone understands fully how the odds are working against them, there's no issue and it can still be considered fun entertainment, but so many problem gamblers are lying to themselves. I have never been addicted to gambling, but went through a period of playing games for far too many hours each day - quite fortunate that it wasn't costing money. Thinking of ways to fill that time void was perhaps the biggest adjustment and I spent some of it starting to exercise, which helped establish a routine that was very distinct from the previous one.

Glad to hear that those strategies worked for you, and congratulations by the way in successfully controlling the urge to gamble.
I myself wouldn't think that those few strategies you mentioned to avoid the urge to gamble will work for me. Focusing on my job will only give me more stress lol. I once have a strong urge to gamble before, but I don't think I was really addicted that time, but I think I was close to being one. The best thing that worked out to me is when I go out with my friends who don't gamble. We go out of town more often during weekend with our motorbikes. So, the money that should've gone to gambling, I ended up saving it because I am excited for our next weekend ride.

OP, it's good to hear that you're finally getting recovered from gambling addiction, and you're not into gambling directly anymore. It's really a tough thing to keep oneself away from gambling because when someone gets addicted to it then it becomes harder and harder to distance oneself from it. However, the ones like you with strong will power and dedication can reduce the impact of that addiction and sometimes even fully give up on gambling altogether.
True, getting distance from gambling when you’re totally addicted to it is never easy. Some still fail in the process and find theirselves get back into gambling again after weeks or months from avoiding gambling. The temptation is really high with gambling, but if you are determined to resist it, you can with the help of your support system. Hopefully you can continue to inspire other gambling addicts and help them on their healing process.

I've always said that if you want to move on from gambling, find a hobby. or two.  Keep yourself busy. It's 100% going to help. I've done a few hobbies before like drawing, playing tennis, just jogging, gaming and it was extremely helpful early on when I was gambling. It can be expensive sometimes depending on the hobby (some games have ridiculous prices lol) but I reckon in the long term it's going to be 100% cheaper compared to gambling. I still gamble, a few times per month, but I've learned to just enjoy it and stop spending so much money from it.

Anyway, happy for you OP. Hope you can keep it up!

Yes, we need to have something, that will make our minds busy and not to think about gambling so that we can recover. Thank God though, I have self control and not your typical gambler, except sports betting.

But I have been in this kind of situation before, I didn't do anything special though, just like when I quit smoking, I just think of my family and so it's very hard but I did go to the gym myself as my first hobby and then just make myself busy. Now, I' totally different, I know my priorities in life.

And yeah, it's good to hear that amongst us, someone has recovered as well.

Glad to see that you are making good recovery and you are happy with your decision, well I would say it's quite refreshing to here your story and I hope that people can also learn from your situation and avoid making poor decisions.
In between gambling wasn't the main problem the main issue was addiction. Getting addicted to anything always has negative effects be in gambling or not. Many people suffering from gambling are addicts. Gambling was never meant to be a do or die affair. Yes I understand that people are looking for profits when they gamble so it's a serious business but still you should be able to control yourself, know when to say I have lost enough or I have won enough. No gambling site online or offline owes you anything they also want to gain so you need to be discipline and remember always have fun and never get addicted.
