Seeing gambling as a means to make money was the cause of my addiction. It was even the reason that I started to gambling. But after I quit the addiction, I did not get a job for like 2 months but I did not gamble again until after a year. So probably the job I got was one of the reasons I stopped the addiction but also if I do not get a job, I did not think I will be addicted again because I know the bad sides of it already. But the job that I got really also helped me though. You are right about that.
The worst mistake a gambler would make is to see gambling as the means of making money and becoming rich overnight, this feelings is what leads to destruction when they think possiblity of using cent to win a large amount from gambling. But in your own case you quickly call yourself to orders to understand the bad effects of gambling though even though you became addicted there were chances for you to make adjustments or correct your path to choose and follow.
Well, that's why I always say that in gambling, having a proper mindset is always very important.

If the gambler has a mindset of "making more money with gambling" then there's a high chance that he will lose most if not all of his money. On the flipside, if the gambler has a mindset of "gambling for the same of fun" then yes there's still a chance that the gambler might lose the money, but he will not make unnecessary or bad decisions because he had fun while gambling already. The problem is when he hadn't entertained after losing the money.

Most of the gamblers who are chasing money often leads to bad things like some will borrow money from the people they know, or they will sell things just to have money to gamble, or worse, they will steal other people's money. Sometimes, realizing that spending too much money in gambling will help you realize and from there, you will have the power to stop your gambling addiction. It's good that he managed to fight his gambling addiction. Some can't even do it by themselves.

I'm sure you're not alone here, or I mean it's not just you who experiences something like that with a really crazy approach to gambling, and honestly I myself have also experienced that situation where it's really hard for me to ignore any time without gambling, even when I'm doing other activities I often mix it with gambling like slots or dice and of course the impact can affect other activities that we have, and also yes of course what will happen is like what you said that every money we have will usually be lost in a short time, because when you are in that situation then when you have some money then usually the first thing on your mind is to use it to gamble and this is what makes people have difficulty meeting their needs, and this is also what makes someone have problems due to using money for other needs on gambling and ultimately regretting it, believe me that it is a situation that really causes a lot of stress in you.
Maybe many of us experiences like that but we should grateful if we can cure our gambling addiction by using many ways. We know that is difficult to leave out from gambling but we must do before everything in our life change. It is our time to realize how deeper we are in gambling so we can start to change and reduce it if we feel that we are too often to gambling. It is not just for ourselves but for other people who closest to us and I am sure that we don't want to see they are in trouble because of what we do in gambling.

Awareness is what we need to check in ourselves so we know what is change into ourselves. If we think that we need to reduce our gambling activities, we must do that and trying to have more positive activities like what @OP suggested.

Yes, recovering from addiction is indeed difficult but it does not mean it is impossible, actually it is just a matter of time, or what I mean is that gamblers who are currently trapped in a cycle of addiction can definitely recover but maybe in an undetermined period of time and also in terms of the slump it cannot be known how depressed they will be when they are in the cycle of addiction, so of course I think it is a very commendable action if we can share ways to cure gambling addiction from each other's experiences.

Honestly, I have experienced addiction before but thankfully now I have recovered which maybe I will share the recipe here that if you really want to recover from addiction then the first thing you have to do is remove all access that can connect you to gambling such as deleting or freezing all casino accounts, blocking your account and busying yourself with various other activities.
I don't see any solution in freezing or deleting the account where a gambler can bet or in a physical casino. You can gamble and there is nothing wrong with that but there should be maximum efforts to reduce the tendency to become addicted. You should conduct your own activities regarding entertainment and you can make your efforts considering gambling as a means of entertainment. Entertainment is necessary for physical and mental health with limited financial allocation and proper use of time. It is possible to refrain from addiction through family protection and responsible behavior and for mental peace from social status in view of the surrounding conditions.

Maybe it is more appropriate to be able to prevent our behavior towards gambling from being excessive when doing it, because addiction will not occur if we do not do it excessively and also with the assumption that we should not think that we can make a profit for sure, we should think that this is nothing more than just entertainment. The addiction that occurs a lot has damaged the destruction of each individual, this must be prevented because it is better to prevent than to cure. Now if we think that we can make a profit in gambling then addiction has become a consequence that is likely to occur, I agree with you to be able to narrow the chances of getting addicted, it must be considered. When someone has gambled by ignoring the chances of getting addicted like not caring about the risks then they can get addicted I am sure of that.

It is always more advisable to take care of your health than to treat a disease later, and in the case of gambling, it is better not to lose a huge amount than to think about what to do when you lose. A huge loss is, in my understanding, half of the bankroll or even a game of all-in, this is the original problem that you need to think about solving, and not about how to recover from a huge loss.

Yes, that's right, no one intentionally wants to find a disease to cure it unless maybe it's someone who is addicted to gambling because people like that will still force themselves to gamble even though they know beforehand that they have experienced several losses in large amounts. Some people only think about winning no matter how much they have lost, the desire to win remains a priority in their minds. But that just makes them get trapped. That's why before gambling we must be able to do research first to think about whether we are ready to lose or not, besides that we must be able to accept the defeat that occurs because accepting this defeat is also something that needs to be considered.

Firstly, congratulations on embarking on your healing process, the greatest step to heal from gambling addiction is to recognize that you're addicted, identify what you've lost and guard yourself not to lose more than you've already. Taking a break from gambling was the best option I could relate with, I did same six years ago when I was addicted too. I was able to avoid gambling for 3 years and healed from the demon of addiction, started afresh with more addiction mindedness attitude and I'm very good until now.

At the point I recognized myself in my addiction, I moved to record my losses and almost got depressed. Somehow I was able to deceive my subconscious mind that I'm going to be fine. To heal properly, in the early days of 2019, after my granny's burial, I took a job to assist my brother in a region with little or no network efficiency, meaning we struggle to even make calls, so browsing was a no go area, there my thirst for gambling died a natural death after spending a year there. I came out determined never to gamble again, uninstalled every gambling app from my device and started listing out my daily activities in a jotter. I bent myself to executing tasks only on that jotter, so without gambling there and avoiding the betting houses, my gambling friends and gambling sites for a period of 3 years, I found a new life. I still gamble, but now I'm giving it the least attention and have never been addicted again, I made it the last thing to focus on and I hardly finish off my to do lists now, talkless of frequenting the last item on it.

This may have worked for your neighbors whom you did advised but isn't a guarantee that it's going to play out same way for another, you have to understand that there are different levels of addiction and so they also demand different types and levels of elimination so the remedy will be different but a professional help has been proven over time to have worked so well that many gamblers have been able to scale through gambling addiction and turned a new leave after, so it's become a well pronounced and recognized.
That's right, sometimes just a piece of advice won't affect those who are already addicted to gambling, someone who is already addicted to gambling will not be easily influenced by just a piece of advice, they might listen but it only goes in one ear and out the other, like the saying goes, this is what happens to them, even though they listen to the advice given by others, they won't listen to it properly.

In addition, with different levels of addiction as you said, it is true that not everyone who is addicted will recover with just a piece of advice. Maybe this advice will work for those whose addiction is not very severe, but for those who are severe, advice alone will not be enough.

There is one way for you to be able to overcome gambling addiction and I think it has not been mentioned by other people here, for the additional points you give in your argument, and this is also important in my opinion, when you work never save money wherever you can access , entrust your finances fully to your family, mother's wife or anyone you can trust to hold your money, and you want to stop gambling then they will understand what they have to do to help you quit the gambling addiction.
I give this advice to my neighbors, and that is effective to this day he has succeeded in eliminating gambling addiction fully.

This idea works only if your addiction is not yet critical, believe me I know addicts that go around borrowing money when family has held them captive to help them quit gambling but they still find they way to gamble. for me since I'm not an addict but sometimes I do get the urge to gamble so I lock up my funds where I will be charged some extra to unlock them barcode this since charge attach to realising my money to me I don't think of gambling at all for the time being.

I have read about addiction and how dangerous or harmful it can be and I have seen some few cases but I started fearing addiction when I witnessed a young man playing game and squander his own money then proceeded to play and use his father's car as a collateral. To cut the long story short, he gamble out of budget and the car was seized. It was that day I realised how critical addiction gamblers can go with their irresponsible gambling behaviour. The father has to come and pay off the money in the gambling shop to bail his car. I assumed he was going to quit gambling after that incident but it seems he was just getting started. If addiction reach critical stage, it becomes hard to help yourself or listen to advice.
Which is why I always encourage and suggest rehabilitation centre for people with this kind of addiction, from your story if the dude was noticed earlier and the parents took their money or his money to put him in a rehabilitation course, the cost of bailing their car would have been avoided. unfortunately it's not their fault but the incident occurred out of over looked behaviour of the dude.
Of course it's not easy to key out of gambling especially when it's a habit you will need another habit to get rid of the ridiculous old habits I encourage those of us with this level of knowledge about addiction to help those in such situations and they are probably unconscious to their behaviours.

Most gamblers became gambling addict not because they knew how to gamble best but they took it upon themselves as a source of income.A person that is always occupied wouldn't render much of his time to gambling. Its a good thing you've recovered from gambling addiction,I know it wasn't an easy journey,I know a lot of gamblers that are battling with gambling addiction.Gambling for fun should be at the tip of every gambler's finger cause that's the essence of gambling. Many gambling addicts lost huge amount on gambling and stopped gambling for some period of time,I believe they'll continuing gambling after the pain of the huge amount they lost have subsided because they haven't realized the main purpose of gambling.

It is only when someone (gambler) loses huge amount of money that he will decide to leave gambling. What happened to Op has happened to a friend. In fact as it is he is owing people a lot of money. And I thank God that he has finally gradually leaving gambling addiction. And I also appreciate your courage to cut out your gambling addiction from the industry. Many have tried but they could and continue gambling.
I have been avoiding to become an addicted gambler. I only gamble when I want to have small fun like twice a week and not a continues gambler.

I don't know how strong your gambling addiction is. It is generally accepted that gambling addiction is difficult to get rid of, but I know a great way to quickly overcome gambling addiction. Here you need to use a bypass so as not to leave your subconscious any chance.

This is the substitution method - you replace one addiction with another. For example, you used to gamble, and now you start playing computer games. Play with passion, try to enjoy the process.

There is a great way to put out forest fires - by starting a new counter-fire. One fire will destroy another fire. One addiction will kill another addiction.

At the same time, each subsequent addiction is much weaker than the previous one - so you will not have big problems with it.
Don't ask him to make a new fire - but suggest he do something more useful, such as exercising or improving the quality of his worship [according to their respective religions]. I agree that transition methods will help gambling addicts reduce the intensity or eliminate their addiction - but this must also be supported by the right environment. If you are still in the same gambling environment as before - then your success in reducing your addiction will probably be low.

I would love to hear about your experiences if you faced addiction or any opinions, suggestions, or stories you like to share. Let’s support one another on this journey.

I really appreciate how you share your experiences lately with the community.
I wasn't addicted me myself but i witnessed some cases addicted to the activity of gambling and van't control their bihaviors.

From the beginning of my experience I was afraid of the idea of becoming a gambling addict, especially since I had a bad experience with alcohol addiction, which required me a great effort to get rid of. Then, by virtue of my knowledge of scientific research, I understood that behavioral addiction is one of the most dangerous types of addiction that can afflict a person.
Yes, its really that something that good on trying out to share up about gambling addiction problems and on how it do able to recover from it, but actually everything will really be just that depending on a certain individual since not all would really be having that kind of control towards themselves when it comes into this aspect on which there will really be those who cant be able to do so just because they cant leave out gambling and cant really be able to remove into their minds. We do know that everything will really be basing up according into their interest and mindset towards gambling.

If they wont be able to remove out that kind of gambling urge, then they will really be definitely be able to fail up when it comes into this aspect because thinking up will really be resulting on keep on
making some engagement even if it means that you do need to spend up even more.

Keeping yourself busy is one of the best ways for an addict to distract themselves from gambling. They can find a hobby that they enjoy, or do work, or do other activities that keep their attention away from gambling.

You're right getting busy with alot of goals and activities can really help one to stay far from gambling and it's alot good and better as it helps to enable the gambler stay discipline and focus. And like the saying goes an idle man is the devil's workshop, so then when you're idle your ipen to gambling at anytime and as well resulting to addiction.

Well, I agree with your suggestion, which previously was the only idea that successfully helped me recover from gambling addiction, so actually if you want to recover and really want to get rid of activities that have become your habits, then eliminate everything that can connect you to gambling, or simply eliminate access to it, because when you do not have access to gambling, there is no other way than to hold back your desire to gamble, one of which is in terms of money as you suggest, namely by entrusting most of the money you have to other people and make sure that person can really be trusted like your parents or wife.

Previously I also did it but the first thing I did was block all local bank accounts that I had and after that I entrusted most of the money I had to my parents and only left some for needs that could not be tolerated, I am sure that this method is really effective and I have also proven it myself, and in my opinion it is the best way to reduce your level of interest in gambling and over time you will definitely forget about gambling.

Critical addiction can be very hard to leave and that is why we will keep seeing more gamblers finding it hard to get rid of the addiction.
Some gamblers would complain or gamblinh addiction and after a while, they could testify that they are okay and no more addiction. I'm this case, I believe the gamblers addiction is still in a minor state that could easily be overcome. When an addiction get worse, we could see a severe case where the gambler does not have full control of themselves and the disciple is not more there to help the victim gradually get rid of the addiction.
I don't think followers or friends in general can stop the person from gambling, they only warn them that gambling only brings momentary pleasure and will bring disaster to them in the future. Bookies know very well how they play their role when someone is given a win in a gambling game, they feel euphoria which can make them want to continue gambling to feel that sensation again and want to add to the profits that are much bigger than before. Addiction can be cured or restored in various ways, we can flashback or reflect on what happened to us before, if we take lessons from before, I think we can let it all go.

I remember myself many years ago, when all I did was gamble 24/7 and didn't notice anything around me. It was some kind of illness. All the money I had was immediately lost in a few hours. What was that? Insanity or something else? I still can't understand how I could do that not only to myself, but also to my family. I let so many people down that I still regret it. Yes, the past can haunt us for quite a long time.
The past is part of repentance but there are many people who are truly insightful in this matter, they know what has scratched people's eyes and instead of just letting the past haunt them every day, they look for another goal to erase this haunting bit by bit. Although the collapse of the image is difficult to regain people's trust, living well and the right thing will come is the most comfortable perspective, maybe people will later keep a less intimate relationship with the addict but we recover not to change the relationship, we recover to become more transparent and upright in our personal ethics.

What happened is that you do not longer place priorities in gambling rather your new jobs, and most people still can't leave gambling because they sees it as an easy way to make money without knowing that it kills so easily because when they try to make it happen as they think and it's not forth coming it turns to addiction.

That's true. It was not meant to be like that because if it is, then most online gambling sites today will be bankrupt and we might not even see one existing anymore. There's money if you are the online casino owner and that is why they can give back lots of money during events. The house edge is what feeds them and that means more losers than winners. I have seen many guys who had been spending way too much time gambling and I can say they become so unsocial that they won't even talk to anyone anymore. I experienced it firsthand from a friend who came to visit our place. It's like he was just forced by my other friends to come because he didn't do anything while in my house but only face his smartphone and gamble. That is a sign of addiction or worse he is already addicted but would not admit it to us or to himself.
