you should never measure your mining ROI in fiat, you always measure it in terms of bitcoin.In fact, how has anyone made ANY money from Btc in the last year?
IMO they probably imploded because of the difficulty decline/stagnation which caused them to have to payout more then expected in "mining revenue" which they could not afford to pay because they were not getting enough new customers/contracts
