Orbitcoin Bootstrap.dat

   bootstrap.dat

bootstrap.dat allows a new Orbitcoin client (not synced) to rapidly import the initial blocks from a
local file instead of slowly downloading blocks from random peers. This significantly reduces the
time it takes to get a client synced with the current blockchain.

Simply having bootstrap.dat in Orbitcoin's expected data directory will make your initial block sync
much faster. The import process can be even faster if you use the -dbcache=1000 command line
parameter which uses an additional 1GB of RAM for the database index cache.

   Extracting the bootstrap.dat.xz

Regardless of your operating system, use the following steps to make use of the bootstrap.dat file:

1.   Download bootstrap.dat.xz from mirrors or torrent.
2.   Decompress the bootstrap.dat.
3.   Put it into the Orbitcoin datadir. "%appdata%/orbitcoin" / "~/.orbitcoin"
(This is the same folder that contains wallet.dat and the blocks folder.)
4.   Delete bootstrap.dat.old if you want to recover some storage space.

    Orbitcoin Data Folder

    Linux
Code:
xz -d bootstrap.dat.xz
Orbitcoin's data directory is located in ~/.orbitcoin/ by default. You can run ls -a to see
directories that start with a period. You can also search for the directory with the following
command:
Code:
find / -name wallet.dat -print 2>/dev/null

   Mac
You can obtain xz from MacPorts or http://macpkg.sourceforge.net/.
orbitcoin's data directory should be located in ~/Library/Application Support/orbitcoin/.

   Windows
7Zip is a free utility that can decompress .xz files, so does the latest version of WinRAR.

Click on Start then Run (or press WinKey+R) and type:
Code:
explorer %APPDATA%\orbitcoin
orbitcoin's data directory will open. "AppData" and "Application Data" are hidden by default in
Windows.

   Copy bootstrap.dat to data directory

Copy the bootstrap.dat to your data directory. Load the orbitcoin client and wait for it to load the
blocks. After loading is complete, the bootstrap.dat will be renamed to bootstrap.dat.old at which
point you can choose to delete it.

Depends on what you mean by rare. Although declared to have a 31 million coin supply, ORB isn't going to exceed 2 million in fact.

There are 457K blocks mined to this moment which have generated 87K ORB only. The 1st halving is at 2.1M blocks, so add maybe 300K ORB to this point. All upcoming blocks for the coin life are not going to generate more than 200K ORB. So, 1.6M ORB is most likely the total coin supply.

I think ORB was "lucky" to be frozen/paused during this period.
Many new coins came, many old coins died or ridiculed (wdc...)
ORB remained unaffected more or less.
I guess Redmist is either very lucky or very smart (or both).

Now orb is back to normal (is it?), and the prices tend to drop.
Furthermore, when the mining bonanza resumes, many new coins will be dumped.
I'm afraid this (mining bonanza) cancels the whole "rare coin" thing, and will put the nail on our coffin.
Hope I'm wrong...

Now that I think about it, "repairwallet" via the debug console should do the same thing, and it will be quicker.

I had to fiddle with this a few days ago when the client was doing some bizarre things like complaining I was trying to use already spent coins for a new transaction.

Yes that is exactly what it was doing. However only if I tried to send a large number of coins lets say over 100.
When I send 100 and under at a time it freezes for a few seconds, then the transaction is completed.

This looks really innovative compared to all the clone coins coming out lately.  Do you have an address I can send an investment to?

I just transfered 193 ORB's to Cryptsy and received the error message "transaction couldnt be completed"
WTF!!! are all my coins gone?Huh?

Have you upgraded to 1.4.0? Any other version will be on a different fork to Cryptsy's.

Starting your client with the -rescan commandline option should recover the unspent coins. You shouldn't need to restore wallet.dat from backup.

Worked like a charm.. thanks again

the backup of your wallet.dat that you hopefully made. no matter how old that is, as long it is the same (containing a private key needed to resync)

btw, new ver 1.4 pool orb.ipnet.pro

Judging by the quote you provide transaction was NOT been completed.
At this point it is reflected only in the local wallet.
Just turn off the client and replace wallet.dat by copy from the archive/bacup. And the coin must be in place after it.

What archive/backup are you referring to?

Is this thread alive?
Is the coin alive?
Prices are tanking badly.
Maybe the stuck chain was better... Smiley

Yes, a new version has just been released, but the upgrade has not been smooth sailing for many people. I had to restart about 3 times to sync, and had some weird issues with the client complaining that I was trying to use already spent coins in a transaction.

Attempting to sync wallet and not syncing, I just wanted to use it to test some network settings for solo mining, as it's diff is low. No wallet sync though.

Firstly, are you using v1.3.2.0-orb, the fork by Mad_Max? You won't be able to mine on any other version. Here's two IPs you can try connecting to:

addnode=173.88.48.75
addnode=198.27.97.178  <-- this appears to be running an older version.

(Haven't started the client for a while - only connected to those two IPs atm)

Some other quiet and/or half-dead coins that you can play with solo mining on. I've only listed those which are synced and have connections right now:

Valuecoin - diff 0.0013
Lebowskis - diff 0.0081
Clockcoin - diff 0.0154
Nintencoin - diff 0.0174

HTH.

Orbit is dead?
As I understand this coin is dead?

Officially NOT. And probable in practice not yet too.

- wallets still working and transactions pass, and still enough nodes online to support work of network
it is splited to parallel chain where one official with only PoS (transactions is OK, but no mining of new coins) and 2nd my (unofficial) with working mining but not accepted by echanges - both working
only 3rd (oldest/original) chain is dying now

- it is trading on 2 different exchanges and exchange rate relative stable (my measures of unpopular / little used "third level" alt coins)
