Really? Is beta.bitcointalk.org legit the latest version? It's been 3 years and this is it? What is it being coded in... assembly?

If I remember correctly, the budget for the site was in the tens of thousands of BTC. At today's value, it'd probably be a $50MM bid. I'm thinking the admins were swindled in the bid... I think it should go back open or at least make a more open competition for the new software.

Edit: Found the source. It's freaking Javascript... that's why. Who would want that ungodly mess to manage? ew.

Edit2: https://github.com/epochtalk/epochtalk for those that can't google.
Just because it's hard work, that doesn't mean it's good work. Given the time frame of the project, and the apparent budget, the progress should be better. Not to mention that there are forum softwares out there that meet the needs to begin with. The theme of the new forum is trash. Plain and simple.

This is cut and paste SPAM.

I've taken a look at his post and surprisingly he did a lot of copy-paste. Archived post history https://archive.li/ZUhSd.

I agree that there are dangers with hacking and fraud, so for cryptocurrencies to truly become mainstream there will be a need for better security for the less tech-savvy. The same protections that exist with credit cards will need to be applied to cryptocurrencies.

Here:
Bitcoin hit a record high of $19,783.21 in December before plunging, but still rallied by over 1,300 percent in 2017.
The fall in bitcoin's supremacy is due to the rise of other cryptocurrencies such as ethereum and ripple. still being first ever digital currency BTC dominates 45% market capital today.

And here:
Bitcoin hit a record high of $19,783.21 in December 2017 before plunging, but still rallied by over 1,300 percent in 2017. the best price BTC could ever get.

Here:
There has never been a successful attack on the Bitcoin blockchain that resulted in stolen Bitcoins. However, many central systems that use Bitcoin have been hacked. And wallets and Bitcoin exchanges are often hacked due to inadequate security. The Bitcoin community has fought back by developing elegant solutions to keep their coins safe, including wallet encryption, multiple signatures, offline wallets, paper wallets, and hardware wallets, just to name a few.

Here:
Bitcoin is the opposite of a pyramid scheme from the point of view of Bitcoin miners. The Bitcoin protocol is designed like a cannibalistic arms race. Every additional miner prompts the protocol to increase the difficulty of mining. From a social point of view, Bitcoin is a pure market. The price of Bitcoins fluctuates based on market supply, demand, and perceived value.

And here:
Because of the semi-anonymous nature of Bitcoin, it’s used in ransomware attacks. Hackers breach networks and hold them hostage until payment is made to them. Hospitals and schools have been victims of these types of attacks. However, unlike cash, which was favored by thieves in the past, Bitcoin always leaves a trail in the blockchain that investigators can follow.

The offline mode of securing bitcoins is called cold storage. Backup your entire bitcoin wallet early and often. Keep your software up to date. Encryption adds a layer of security to a particular folder, file, or message as it can only be unlocked by someone who knows the right key to it. The concept of a multi-signature has gained some popularity.

Ask me for Pools, Nodes and Explorers.
I have PM'd LoyceV about one spammer, who has copied and pasted my post as his own.
It makes it even worse, that it is a lending request and he only changed his own ETH address into it. I feel like he is just trying to get some free crypto, because of paying no effort at all. However as i've heard that copypasting is a serious offense here and causes permanent ban (not red trust), i have asked for LoyceV's advice and he said that is should post my complaiment into this thread.

Edit: I want to make moderator's job easier, so i will quote the posts here. In case that they get edited, there is an archived pages below.

My 0.001ETH lending request:

Hello bitcointalk! Although i don't have any reputation here, i wish someone could lend me a small amount of ETH. Im asking 0.001 for token transfer, and im paying 0.003 back. I hope someone can trust me with such amount Smiley

BoostTM's lending request copied from me with only ETH address changed:

The billionaire venture capitalist is doubling down on BTC, likening the digital coin to gold’s online equal.

Thiel touts the No. 1 cryptocurrency for its size and its ability to compete with gold as a safe haven, saying at the Economic Club of New York:

“I would be long bitcoin, and neutral to skeptical of just about everything else at this point with a few possible exceptions. There will be one online equivalent to gold, and the one you’d bet on would be the biggest,” said Thiel.

But with the exception of a few digital coins, Thiel remains neutral on the rest of the cryptocurrency pack. He didn’t dismiss the possibility that bitcoin could be surpassed by Ethereum or other altcoins that prey on the leading cryptocurrency’s weaknesses, but bitcoin’s strength is in its size.

Bitcoin controls more than 40% of cryptocurrency market cap compared to almost one-fifth for Ethereum, as per Coin Market Cap data cited in CNBC.

That can be a good idea. Because Regional Language Managers will able to communicate with those people who has less knowledge over English. It will add up more people in crypto world. That will increase the value of crypto little by little.

The main reason why I would prefer a quote for on-forum usage, is standardization: it makes it easier to quickly see it's a quote than looking for a "quelle".
I agree, the quote function makes it 'cleaner'. I didn't use it that much until now because it makes everything harder to read as things get smaller and in many cases, it breaks the reading flow. But this incident here made me a bit more aware that people are actually concerned about plagiarism and that this seems to be important to them.
In the coming days, I'll successively go through my past posts and check them carefully  Wink

[...] I don't think this difference of interpretation should make you guys mortal enemies.

I do not see the difference as creating these graphs and tables require a lot of efforts as you know, and it seems to me that posting them pretending as if he created them is nothing but plagiarism.
I don't see him pretending he's the creator. The references he uses aren't "forum-style quotes", but clear enough to make it clear someone else created it.
The main reason why I would prefer a quote for on-forum usage, is standardization: it makes it easier to quickly see it's a quote than looking for a "quelle".
After a more thorough look, I would for sure not call this plagiarism.

Next time I re-post content, I'll use the quote-function, so that everybody is happy.
I think this is good to do in general. And when quoting, try to make them as small as possible without removing context. If it's just an image you're quoting to show it on a local board, I'd say removing all English text and only showing the image is just fine.

P.S is it good/right format?

I found the user mithrim has repeatedly posted merit stat graphs and tables, which were originally created by zentdex and posted in the threads:

[1] Merit Stat from theymos data
[2] Where the Merit Pours?

to German local threads and LoyceV's Merit data analysis.  Thanks to these posts, mithrim has collected 11 merits so far.

The problem is that mithrim typically does not cite zentdex, and seems to be pretending as if the materials were created by mithrim.  mithrim sometimes gave a credit to zentdex, but the citation is very small: For instance, you can see "*Quelle" at the end of this post for a link to zentdex's original post.

zentdex signed like "stats: by zentdex" in some of the graphs / tables, but not all.  As zentdex's analysis is quite informative, I understand people want to share it, and zentdex would be happy about that.  Needless to say one needs to give a correct credit to zentdex's hard work.

The correct way is to quote zentdex's original posts.  However, mithrim never quote the zentdex's posts.  The following is the current list of mithrim's posts.  I must say they are plagiarism, please check them carefully.

The list of mithrim's posts copying and pasting the graphs and tables created by zentdex

This post copies 2 graphs and 3 tables from [2], and mithrim obtained 4 merits.
This post copies 1 graph and 2 tables from [2].
This post copies 1 graph and 1 table from [1], and mithrim obtained 1 merit.
This post copies 1 table from [2] and mithrim obtained 2 merits.
This post copies 1 graph and 1 table from [1], and mithrim obtained 3 merits.
This post copies 2 graphs and 1 table from [2], and mithrim obtained 1 merit.

Wow, never thought that trying to be more active and helpful would end up in me being in a witch-hunt.
The images even have a watermark and show that they are by zentdex. I never edited them or cropped his name out, I also linked to him or the original thread.

What boggles me is, if you have a problem with the way I post, why wouldn't you say something to me personally? I would've edited the posts, no problem. I don't want to get credit for something I didn't do and I also create infographics and statistics myself, so I know how much work this can be.
You say that the citation is "very small". It's the normal font face and size. The problem now is - as I don't have any problem with making the links red and bold or actual quotes - even if I would do this, you'd only accuse me of trying to hide something.

It's so easy to point a finger and accuse someone of what might be considered a minor forbearance.
What's your angle here? Do you want to 'defend' zentdex? Do you want me to get banned? What do you want? You obviously don't want me to change the way I credit someone's work, else you would've talked to me, at least once.
This level of distrust resp. pessimistic/destructive behavior really saddens me. If you want to improve things, talk to people. Or am I just not worth it and it's easier to get rid of things that annoy you?

I really don't know what to say to your accusation as I only try to bring things to the local board as not all members frequent the Meta forum.
You're also saying that I never quote posts when I repost content and that's just not true. Until right now I figured that this is a forum and not some kind of board where someone's posts are being 'checked carefully' like in a scientific paper. But even there you cite the source and don't insert a photo of the original article whenever you refer to something as it's not mainly about who made the content you referred to but about what can be learned from it. I never claimed the work as mine and gave a source.

So, as you seem to have a problem with the way I posted but never saw the necessity to say this directly to me, either via PM or under one of my posts but instead, you chose to accuse me of plagiarism in a thread that aims to permaban someone, what do you propose?
To be honest, as irritating as this might be (and it is, at least for me), it also shows a nasty side effect of the new Merit System. Until now I never even thought about plagiarism in the way you obviously do. I saw this forum as a means of exchanging information.. but well, learning never stops.

Next time I re-post content, I'll use the quote-function, so that everybody is happy.
And for future reference: If someone has a problem with me or the things I did, please talk to me.

I am just starting to think if it's worth it to quit my job and start focusing on this. It's bizarre seeing people making a good profit on this, in trading, choosing or investing on those good ICOs. It's not that easy, you have to give time to read and search at the same time be careful not ending up with a lot of scams going on online.

Don't try and convince them. You can explain why you're doing it and what you've done so far, but the more you try and convince someone to do something the less likely they are to do it.

Plus be careful, if they lose money they'll probably blame you. And if they make money, not necessarily thank you.
