With the current situation, any sane individual whether he is a gambler or just a simple investor tend to stop. A normal person will naturally forgot doing vice (at least for now) simply because he will make himself or his own family his first priority. But if a particular gambler never do such thing and just continue gambling like there's no tomorrow then I feel pity for him. I might say he is totally crazy for it — a compulsive and uncontrolled one. I doubt any friendly advice will work for him any longer, if the only way for him to realize all his wrong deeds is get infected then so be it *knock on the wood. It will be worth it if it changes him once and for all.

But the question is , is this the right time for gambling addicts to come out of addiction? The assumption I am making here is  that the gambling addicts are addicts on sports betting and not casino game addiction or poker .

A gambling addict will always find a way to gamble because obviously they are now addicted to that activity. Their mind will find that desire of doing gambling. They will never realized that it's time now to stop gambling just because of the virus scare. That's the reality and by far the closest thing to happen.

There are still sports events that open for betting so basically these gamblers still have options and gambling life will continue. Those who are addicted to sports betting will consider placing bets on other sports or games even that's now out of their knowledge.

In addition to that, there's no right time when you need to stop your gambling addiction. It is your decision when will that happen. And if you think this situation will help you stop your gambling addiction, then you need to be firm with yourself that you are now stopping your habit even after this corona virus is over. Because if it is only because of this pandemic situation, then, your effort to forget gambling is useless.

When a person is addicted to something, this person is sick, and it doesn't matter how, he/she will find a way to gamble, today is easy to find some place to bet
Here in my country there are lots of illegal places that people used to gamble, and addicteds don't care about crisis

But if a person can use this situation to stop, it will be good for her/him.

I don't agree on this statement because most of the sport betting gamblers are making bets after enough researches on their games so they have chances to win on it.But casino players are more likely to be called as addicts because they are hoping to win bets even if they know they are not in control of winning the games.
Well that's exactly what I have mentioned. I told that I am talking about sports betting addiction and not the other casino games addiction which will resume without any hindrance .

Also I see many people saying that they will come back to sports betting once it resumes . Yes I am aware of that . I am speaking for those people who wanted to quit sports betting but couldn't just push away the temptation because everyday there would be a new game to bet on but now they will have to push away the temptation anyway so this is the impetus they needed to stop gambling .
Most of the games were still gets played but without spectators all around the world at this time but in case if the issue get more serious then every game will be stopped so sport bettors have no other choice other than waiting for the world to become normal.Honestly I don't want to see such serious condition all around the world just for the sake of these sport bettors should stop gambling. Smiley

Also they have to beware of scam site at this situation which will be used to hunt some addicted people.

Well, that is a choice because even so, every sports gambling addict still has alternatives to keep gambling at the casino. Gamblers with a high dependency on gambling will not be easy to stop even if there is a right time for them to stop when a moment like this happens, incidents or cases like this will not be enough to make them stop and they will stop when they have awareness and desire to rest then that is the factor that will make them stop betting, and I don't think all sports gamblers will actually stop because some of them will definitely switch to casino gambling.

Wish for the rain? Then deal with the mud too.
Well they were been left with no chance to have a choice so what else they can do beside on staying still, and remaining silent, or may be they will commit to something different. I am pretty sure that these people who are addicted in sports betting might go else where so that they can fill the urge taking bets, may be they will try other fields out there where they are yet to explore. This circumstance may imply for people who cannot restrain themselves without betting, those people who have been in years on sports betting, those people who find life in it. But if there will be an opportunity for them finding life beside the gambling world because the current unfortunate event prevents them from pursuing it, for sure they were lucky as they got escaped the deceptive space of gambling.

But the question is , is this the right time for gambling addicts to come out of addiction? The assumption I am making here is  that the gambling addicts are addicts on sports betting and not casino game addiction or poker .

Why this question is because although I wanna bet on sports ( which I have been doing every week since 8 years ) now I cannot .

Gamblers will always find a way, even at home they can gamble with their relatives or online, they can shift to poker and dice game in the absence of sports betting, you can't stop gamblers to gamble they can always find a way because they can shift and might even incorporate other forms of gamblers.
It depends on how your country and you individually are affected with corona because if you are among countries where even movement has been stopped and markets are closed then the money you have in your hand has much more importance and you would think 50 times before gambling but if you are from some country where the influence is not so much then most probably you will not have any impact at all and would continue gambling like ever before. But yes for those who are affected I believe will have a hard time and hence quit gambling.

But I agree with others here that gambling is all about mindset and while they may quit gambling till they survive the crisis they might start gambling again even more once this all gets over.

I think may be it is.I am a sport bettor myself but I also know that the majority of gambling addicts are not from sport gambling but rather from casino and poker games. On this context Corona virus is not a right time for such gamblers to stop as they can access their games and keep gambling.Corona virus has its impact on sport betting only.

As we all know , Coronavirus has impacted each and every industry in the whole world and sports isn't an exception .

If you take a look at this  , https://www.nytimes.com/article/sports-canceled-coronavirus.html or https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/coronavirus-and-its-impact-on-sporting-events-please-add-5232295 you will get to know how many tournaments across different sports have been affected .

It's going to be a case to case basis, some people will be ok to stop and just wait for the resumption of the sports betting, while others will just shift to other forms of gambling like online gambling casino just to satisfy their urge to gamble, the one that will benefit here are online gambling casinos if these people made a shift.
The answer is opinion base for sure, and like what you have said, to those who are addicted to sports gambling and don't have any idea if how
casino games works, they will not entertain this kind of gambling while to those who wanted to satisfy their urge of gambling possibility to play
some casino games will do for them.

In my own opinion, people who are addict in sports betting would really stop gambling for a while until the corona virus hasn't stop spreading all over the world. It is also a big opportunity for other people to get rid of their gambling addiction because I think a month is enough for them to get used to not gambling or playing sports betting.

Sports betting addiction might get in decline these days for obvious reasons. But would not these same people turn to something else to compensate for this? The simplest thing is betting on virtual (fantasy) sports which don't depend on the current events (right?) or perhaps switch to poker gambling or something. I think the answer to this question depends on the dominant reason this person needs gambling so badly. If it's to cope with real-life stress and stuff, then addiction might get on the rise because each day things are getting more and more serious.

There is no "right" time to come out of addiction. Each and every moment is actually the right time to recover your self for "any" kind of addiction. I know what you are trying to say is that people can use this opportunity to get rid of gambling addiction, but no, this does not work in this way. Those who are addicted to gambling will eventually find out an alternative way to place bets with their money. They might temporarily stop sports book gambling, but might join something similar.
If a person thinks he is addicted to gambling, then he should seek professional help, instead of looking for excuses or a certain "period of time" to stop gambing.

Perhaps, it is the right time for gambling addicts to come out of addiction, and they can leave gambling for a while or forever because many sports games have been canceled because of the virus. But we still have online gambling games to play so you can change the games with the other gambling games, and perhaps, you can find another excitement with other gambling games.

You can choose for yourself whether you want to leave gambling games or you want to try other gambling games. But the point is you should know about the dangers of addicting to gambling. You have an option to reduce the addiction by taking a break from the sports betting for a while. We don't know when the sports will continue the event because the government is still trying to search for people who got infected by the virus.

There's nothing wrong with playing gambling as long as it doesn't affect your family, life, and friends. Most of the people are experiencing some problems related to mental and emotional problems as they become addicted to gambling. It's normal to seek entertainment and contentment in gambling but if you affect some people around then you need to stop. If you get addicted to it, you need guidance and advice from others for you not to end up being lost. There are many options other than playing gambling, you should invest for something that is more profitable and valuable, play some online games related to sports instead of betting on it. Don't waste the opportunity to fix yourself from gambling, it will really not help you to become rich and stable.

I think only sports betting has been slightly affected on this pandemic decease the coronavirus. Because there are too many sports that have been canceled due to this virus. A gambling addict will always find ways because there are also too many online gambling that not related to sport or maybe they will switch to e-sports betting.

However, the most common now is playing poker and those related card games. Maybe that is a good alternate game to the sports betting while it canceled and many bookies pause their activity.

This would surely hold them for awhile including you OP.
But somehow I don't really think that this would cure your addiction.
Some how you would surely find something else to do while there isn't any sports that you could bet.
(Why not make some bet on when would those tournament resume  Grin )

Once you are addicted to gambling no matter it is sports betting or casino's games, you will always try to find other gambling/events. In this case, due to corona virus that makes many events are stopped/postponed then addicted gambler will try to find non affected sports events or even sports betting addicts may move to casual gambling games in order to keep gamble their money.

Only the sports betting can be little bit effected by this coronavirus as some of the matches may be suspended but there are many other matches which are still going on and you can bet on them. Also the other forms of the gambling like casino etc are not effected by this virus and you can still gamble easily.
I think if anyone want to avoid gambling then it is his own will and these situations of coronavirus has nothing to do with it.
