Don't get me wrong, I think Fiji shouldn't be discounted. It's just the money is going Australia's way. Regardless, it'll be one of the must watch games this weekend.

*edit*

Here are the odds on Nitrogen at the moment (note how many have suspended the favourites) https://play.nitrobetting.eu/en/sportsbook (ref link down below)

Over in the NRL, I'm putting my satoshi where my mouth is and going with the Roosters and Knights:

Melbourne Storm - Sydney Roosters 15 Sep 2023 19:50 Money Line Sydney Roosters @ 3.16 New Zealand Warriors - Newcastle Knights 16 Sep 2023 16:05 Money Line Newcastle Knights @ 2.46 Taken Amount: 0.10 mBTC Possible Payout: 0.777 mBTC

Melbourne Storm - Sydney Roosters 15 Sep 2023 19:50 Money Line Sydney Roosters @ 3.16 Taken Amount: 0.10 mBTC Possible Payout: 0.316 mBTC
New Zealand Warriors - Newcastle Knights 16 Sep 2023 16:05 Money Line Newcastle Knights @ 2.46 Taken Amount: 0.10 mBTC Possible Payout: 0.246 mBTC

Sourced from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_NRL_season the semi finals look like this so far:

Penrith and Brisbane are parachuted into the second last semis with their wins (via their being first and second on the ladder having then won their first encounter of the semis).  It's must win for Newcastle and Sydney to then square off.

Sydney *might* thump Brisbane to make it an all Sydney Grand-final (Penrith over Newcastle - in saying that - Penrith had a couple of upset losses, so let's see how this weekends games go)

Correction - Sydney AND Newcastle *might* thump Penrith and Brisbane to make it a head scratching Grand-final (misread the chart the first time)

Yea, a lot of mismatches happening this weekend starting tomorrow. Currently ROLLBIT are
taking bets on all games. France 1.001 - 40.0 Uruguay. New Zealand are also 1.001 also.

The game of the weekend has to be Australia v Fiji, odds are in favour of Australia but I
really think Fiji could pull off an upset, they are priced at 3.55! sorry Timelord

I am really looking forward to Wales v Portugal, Wales will win but I want to see what
Portugal are about, I have never seen them play.

This week's Union Rugby World Cup matchups are very skewered if the money online is anything to go by.

France, New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa are suspended while their opponents Uruguay, Namibia, Tonga and Romania are double digit odds.

Similarly, Samoa and Wales are $1.01 England $1.05 with Australia the highest favourite odds at $1.34 Vs Fiji on $3.30

It doesn't look like any of the games are on free to air, so it'll have to be a late night trip to a pub or club to catch any of the games.

I saw the Newcastle Vs Canberra game. A very solid performance with Newcastle taking a two point field goal in the second five minutes of golden point. Not sure why they kept playing (might be because it was a penalty instead of game play) in any event, it was a nail bifhting thriller of an ending.

Storm Vs Roosters Friday evening followed by Warriors Vs Knights on Saturday.

The Storm and Warriors are higher on the ladder, but I'm going with the Roosters and Knights who have less players suffering injury at the moment.

No PM's or messages here, so it's just two of us in the sweep.

Japan has become an emerging powerhouse since their upset win in 2015 while Fiji as with most Pacifica teams like to play a hard hitting game, so expect more brusing encounters.

Rugby World Cup

Last game of the opening weekend was the best game, a lot of intensity, a lot of action, scoring
and drama!

Final score: Wales 32 - 26 Fiji

Wales up until about 15 minutes to go Fiji looked like they were done. On the 67th minute
wales were 32 - 14 ahead, no scores until Fiji scored a converted try on the 73rd minute. . . then again
on the 78th minute, it was game
on with Fiji in possession with the last play. . . a wide looping pass to Radradra to run
over the line but he knocked it on.

TBH Wales were lucky to come away the winners, Fiji are actually ranked 6 on world rankings.
They missed two tries by knocking on while on the try line.

Quote
A look at the statistics further illustrates what a lucky escape this was for Wales
as possession (61-39) and territory (65-35) were both in Fiji’s favour while the Welsh made
248 tackles to Fiji’s 70 and in attack the islanders finished with 652 metres gained to Wales’ 378.
Fiji must be wondering how they lost this game.

Union Rugby World Cup

Good win by Australia! That was expected really although Georgia are a decent enough
team and would be the best of the second tier teams.

England v Argentina - WTF happened Argentina? they had a man extra after Tom Curry
was sent off in the 3rd minute. VERY frustrating game to watch, the amount of handling
errors and turnovers coughed up by Argentina was shocking, they definitely had a very
big OFF DAY. But just in the final minutes they manage to show a hint of what they can
do by scoring a late try and conversion, Final score 27-10.

I really hope they can get out of the pool stage by beating Japan, Chile and Samoa.

A fucking shame man, i see the whole game, its a real bitter sensation , because we have one man more for 60 minutes!!! and in some ways we play correctly but we cant make so many faults and England played very very smart, winning the game without a trie.

We also have TWO clear tries to make and we made an idiot fault only a 1 meter to the goal......

Also i have to say for me it was a little bit much the red card for the England player. Yellow i think it was correct.

I think everyone is in agreement about that Red card decision for Tom Curry, it
was a bit harsh and the Yellow would have been fairer.

Argentina have a lot of work to do now to get out of the pool. They have almost two
weeks to prepare for Samoa.

Earlier today as expected Japan beat Chile - Not as an impressive win as the scoreboard
would suggest, Japan were not as good as they were in the last WC and first timers Chile
were very good in defeat, they made it difficult for Japan.
Final score 42-12

South Africa - Scotland - tough day at the office for both teams but more so Scotland who
only scored once. They managed to stay with SA in the first half but SA scored 2 try's and
a conversion in the second half in the space of about 15 minutes, in the end the reigning champions
were too strong.

Up shortly Wales v Fiji... Current odds Wales 1.57 v 2.70 Fiji.

... And the last game of this round I'm leaning towards the Knights who have had an impressive winning streak in the latter half of the regular season.

Nice one Timelord, good call on that one, they did impressively well to win,
they were down 8-22 in the second half when I checked it and I thought they were gone,
final score 30-24.

I saw the first half on TV but I was out and about during half time and the first thirty minutes of the second half. When I got in my car with ten minutes to go, the game had been stopped for a few minutes and the commentators were remarking how nasty a fall it was by the Storm player.

The game resumed and shortly after full time they switched to the Storm's head coach Craig Bellymy's press conference. Someone is heard asking "How is he?" And the solom reply was half muttered "yeh, he's got a broken neck ankle" there was an uncomfortably long silence the Craig Bellamy started talking about the inherent dangers in playing League and that it's "early days" for the player's diagnosis... etc

I'll hunt out an online news article and post it here soon.

*Edit*

Ankle. Broken ankle. (I misheard as neck - my blunder)

'We're devastated for Ryan': Storm star targets new year return after surgery

Author Martin Lenehan NRL Senior Journalist
Timestamp Sat 9 Sep 2023, 11:17 AM

Storm superstar Ryan Papenhuyzen has had surgery on Saturday to repair his fractured right ankle, with the club saying they are "devastated" for the 25-year-old.

Playing just his third game back in the NRL after more than a year out with a knee injury, Papenhuyzen was taken from the field on a medicab in the 73rd minute at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

He was immediately taken to hospital in a horror end to a night in which the Storm also lost winger Xavier Coates to an ankle injury and had four players leave the field for HIAs.

Thumping wins in the Rugby World Cup for both Ireland and Australia.

I'm pleased I was able to see the balanced France Vs New Zealand replay a few hours ago. It was a really solid game. As I said earlier, we don't have the booing, cheering (60,000 whistles going off at the same time) and even singing like in the Football matches.

Nothing like that here.

RUGBY WORLD CUP

Italy v Namibia - big gap in performance and level but after Namibia taking the first score
Italy blast ahead and put up 52 points.
Final score 52 - 8

Ireland just finished 82 - 8 against Romania. Again like the Italy game Romania took the
first score with and try. Irelands first half performance was touch and go with a lot of frustrating
handling errors. Performance was mixed and Romania put in some serious tackling.

Up next is England v Argentina, really looking forward to this, I think Argentina have a
really strong chance to win this. I have to travel 130 miles to get home for the start of this

In the NRL, the Broncos had an emphatic win over the Storm (on a rain soaked Lang Park field) one broken neck and two concussions have all but wiped out the Storm for this season with the ABC commentators reluctantly conceding their players are unlikely to win their next game (regardless of who they slated to play).

*Edit* I don't know why, but I thought the Australia Vs Georgia game was on after the Roosters scraped in with a win 12 - 13 against the Sharks (who are now out of the finals)

Well done France (mutter, mutter there goes one of my two teams).

I just heard on the radio that both teams scored two tries but France had more penalty goals awarded to them.

Tomorrow, Australia and Georgia faceoff and Im hoping to see that game.

Instead, at 11 p.m. (barely fifteen minutes ago) the France Vs New Zealand game is on (delayed telecast I'm guessing).

I've got to admit I miss the "old" Haka instead of the New! Improved! Haka that nobody in New Zealand i know can chant along with.

90 seconds in NZ scored then France got a penalty...

Plus there is a LOT of cheering and booing that you don't get here or in New Zealand.

I'll watch this game, but I don't think I'll be up at two a.m. for the live game.

The odds for France went to 2.35 after they went behind early in the second half but their
play was definitely in a different gear and when Penaud went over the tey line on the 55th
minute I felt the tide had changed, and so it had winning 27 - 13.

This is the first pool game New Zealand have lost ever! that game was a big statement
from France after being under pressure in the first half to coming out in the second with
a brilliant response.

What a win for France!

I only see the first minutes of the game, and New Zealand started the game with a fast trie and it was a magnificent one, so i thinked its gonna be a hard and long day for France national team. I shut down the tv and when i check the result i see France win by a good margin, i dont know what happen on the game, but great win for them.

Channel 9 is showing the Australia Vs Georgia game on Sunday, but I haven't been able to check on the other games.

I am lucky to be able to watch the British TV channel ITV1 where almost all games will
be televised, some on ITV4 but I think I will be also able to tune that in too.

While tomorrow is the opening game but Saturday has a very important game scheduled,
England v Argentina because England are weakened and Argentina will see a real chance
of winning and making the first step in securing a top pool spot.

Of course Ireland and Australia are in action and are expected to win their games.

1 gane from each pool will be played.

Not sure Melbourne can get the job done against Brisbane.  If the Auckland beat Penrith it'll be yet another boil over, the Sharks might fumble, but I'm going to back them anyway.  And the last game of this round I'm leaning towards the Knights who have had an impressive winning streak in the latter half of the regular season.

Both Brisbane and the Panthers fielded under-strength teams last round (effectively the Broncos threw the game - loosing the minor premiership in the process) - neither team deserve to win, but I'm backing them as the stronger teams on the day.

Well we will see what team NZ are about in this opening game on Friday, it has all the
ingredients to be an absolute cracker of a game!

League Australian NRL

So from the last round last week the Panthers got top spot and I think it was the Roosters
who kept the Rabbitohs out of the top 8 and managed to get in themselves, I could be wrong.

So finals week 1 of 4 this weekend and its 2nd v 3rd Broncos v Storm, I'm going with
the Broncos, a rematch of last weeks fixture and revenge time for the Broncos . . . hopefully

1st v 4th Panthers v Warriors, Its going to be the Panthers

6th v 7th Sharks v Roosters, IDK I'm not betting on that, it will probably be the Sharks

5th v 8th Knights v Raiders, only based on ladder position I will back the Knights.

@darxiaomi - you can bet on 1 team instead of 2! no pressure though anyway its
great that the times work out, they will be evening games here on the Northern Hemisphere
but at times where you guys can watch but not at silly times.

Yes, Ireland has had some good wins recently (IIRC) as have Argentina, so it's going to make for some thrilling clashes against some of the powerhouses e.g. NZ and France to name a couple.

The New Zealand national competitions wrapped up a few weeks ago, so the team selectors have numerous players to choose from who have honed their game play over a full season.

Rugby peeps. I'm popping in to ask why the All Blacks aren't the overwhelming favourite in the opener against France Don't watch rugby but you know this team is supreme even as an outsider. Yes, they have had horrible losses, yes their last game was shite, and yes I read the news claiming this is the weakest side yet.

But in football, we say teams with experience are "royalty" of competitions and no matter their form, they are always favourites when facing teams who haven't won a comp (France, in this case).

So my question, distilled: France or NZ?

What the hell are you doing here?. Are you follow me? What are you intentions? You want to be destroyed again in other sports Tongue ?. Just joking, nice to see you here, i dont come so often here but here is where i come to cry when i lose on BSFL. (Milhouse meme).

Well guys i dont think im gonna risk any money in this betting only to the champion.

Yes I agree with Timelord, for this I think its nicer to keep it simple, all wagers go into a "pot"
and the winner(s) take/split it!

I cannot access any of my local TV stations without paying a subscription but I
have learned that the UK channel ITV will be showing all the games, AFAIK I can access
the ITV channel's through my SKY box without subscription, i'll check that tomorrow.

Ah b - a very interesting question, one which doesnt have a one word answer....

France have been building up to this WC and have really improved as a TEAM, they have
fantastic players but their weakness could be playing at home. If things dont go according
to plan their supporters can give them a hard time, so there is massive pressure there.

You are right about NZ, they are not the team they were and dont have the same quality
of players in some positions as they once had.

Personally I'll go with France, they will have to make a big statement with this opening game...

As regards royalty.....South Africa are entitled to that royalty tag too in terms of WC's won.

Welcome to the board b, will you be watching some games?
