The Capetown 7's (men's and women's) get underway in about six hours from now.

https://capetown7s.com/

the odds are favouring one side over the other for quite a few of the matches:

Argentina over Spain
New Zealand over Kenya
Samoa over Japan
Ireland over Urugrury
Australia over Uganda

Not sure what the "M" stands for in the next three, but they have

USA over England
France over Canada

and host nation South Africa over Fiji.

Being played in turn, the women's teams are a little bit more mixed:

Canada over Japan
France over USA
Great Britain over Brazil
New Zealand over Fiji (should be a good game)
Spain over hosts South Africa
and the Aussies will pound the Irish team into oblivion (sorry @aoluain  Wink .

The United Rugby Championship is on hold until 23rd of December to allow the "Heineken Cup"
kick into gear.

https://www.epcrugby.com/champions-cup/matches/

This is the pinnacle of European club Rugby with French, English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish,
Italian ....and South African* teams involved.

*Kind of like Australia in the EUROvision Song Contest!

I'm not up to speed with the English or French clubs so I might not do any bets this weekend
until I educate myself a little first on who's who.

Yeh, I only look in on the UK super league from time to time, but those two (Wigan and Hull) always give standout performances.

I'll hopefully get some wagers on the Union games in the next couple of days well ahead of the week-end before things get hectic again.

I'm always wary of points spreads preferring to just place bets on who is going to win a match (I'm reluctantly placing two bets on soccer fixtures win+draw)

I may not get to see these matches, but I'm going for Salford Red Devils, Wiggan Warriors and Hull FC in the English Rugby League on the 18th of December.

plus a parlay on those three to win:

Ah the Super League, I wouldn't be clued in to that competition or the teams other
than famous names like Hull, At. Helen's and Wigan Warriors. I'm not sure I will be
getting involved with that competition. The Rugby Union side is going to get way busier
this weekend with the start up of two more competitions:

European Champions Cup (The Heineken Cup) and
The EPCR Challenge Cup

There is Irish interest in both competitions, Leinster, Munster and Ulster in the
Champions Cup and Connacht in the Challenge Cup so I will be following those as
much as I can but I will be focusing on the URC.

Recap on my bets on this weekends round in the United Rugby Championship:

It worked out with 2 from 4.

My predictions won but I made those two losses wrong, The points difference didn't workout

Munster on the other hand were very good and covered my +3.5 bet by beating Edinburgh by
21 points, I definitely think they will be on a winning roll from now on.

I have 2 more bets on for today, -11.5 on the Stormers to beat the Dragons @1.71 and a straight
ML win by the Lions to beat Scarlets @ 1.23

Connacht v Benneton - Connacht will win today but to get some value I have Benneton +11.5 @ 1.63

Stormers only beat the Dragons by 8 points
Connacht beat Benneton by 19 points.

I might rethink my point spread betting for next week....

Hopefully I'll be able to get home in time to put some wagers on those games. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get myself sorted this last week to put any wagers on, but from what I can tell they were great games.

Indeed Timelord they were!
At a time when the Soccer world cup is on I find it difficult to watch that sport after watching
Rugby and especially those two games last weekend and all the Autumn Internationals I got
to see. There can be really bad games in Rugby but they are in a minority where as IMO really
good games in Soccer are a minority.

Anyway last night's games in the URC threw up wins for my predictions but I didn't put a wager
on the Sharks, I wanted to do a point spread but the lowest I could get on Rollbit was -21.5,
lucky because they only beat the Ospreys by 15 points.

Munster on the other hand were very good and covered my +3.5 bet by beating Edinburgh by
21 points, I definitely think they will be on a winning roll from now on.

Round 9 in the United Rugby Championship kicks off tonight with 2 games:

Cell C Sharks v Ospreys - these two are close enough on the table but I'm backing the
home team for this one with a point spread. Sharks are massive favourites 1.06 - 8.4...
maybe a point spread on the Ospreys would be a consideration too?

The second game tonight is Edinburgh at home to visiting Munster. I think I'll go with a
Munster win. I think they have their game back on winning ways. Odds are 1.75 - 2.14.

I'll go with a +3.5 on Munster @ 1.65

Well betting on draws in Rugby is non-sensical, it rarely happens, I get it though when
betting on Soccer though, draws are the norm.

(I also went to do a wager on the AFLW grand-final and mistakenly bet on Brisbane at $1.40 instead of Melbourne at $7+ - needless to say, Melbourne won and I'm a dollar shorter).

Ouch, that was a missed opportunity.

Did you get a wager on Australia against Wales? that was another missed opportunity!

I thought I'd posted the other day about my wagers for Australia etc in the internationals, but today I can't see it.  Not sure what happened there.  (I also went to do a wager on the AFLW grand-final and mistakenly bet on Brisbane at $1.40 instead of Melbourne at $7+ - needless to say, Melbourne won and I'm a dollar shorter).

I'm also experimenting with betting $1 on a win plus $1 draw (where the odds are 2.0 or better for each) on the World Football cups being played at the moment.

I prefer placing bets "to win" not win or draw.

My two point spreads yielded a 50% return:

Stormers beat Scarlets 36 to 19, so that bet paid out but Ulster only had a winning margin of
16 over Zebre.

I also had a bet on Munster to beat Connacht, Munster had a strong starting team out
while Connacht had a weakened one.

And the final 2 games of the Autumn Internationals were played yesterday, the first: Wales v Australia
was an epic encounter. Before the game I took Australia at +3.5 figuring they have been within a point or
two in their previous games but boy were they value for money to come back from....

Quote
the Wallabies' incredible 39-34 comeback win over Wales from 21 points down with 23 minutes remaining on Saturday night.

The second game between England v South Africa was a frustrating one for England losing
13 - 27.

I have gone for a couple of point spreads for the two games tonight, it's not something
I have done in the past but the two home teams, Stormers and Ulster are big favourites with
very low odds, the only question is by how many points will they win?

Stormers -11.5 @ 1.63
Ulster -26.5 @ 1.72

Other tournaments on the Rugby Union side are back up and running too, The English
Premiership and the French Top14. I'm following them currently though.

URC

So after the Autumn Internationals the United Rugby Championship starts back up again,
this weekend is round 8 with the games listed below:

I'm gonna make a few bets, only made 1 choice already, I'm going against my home team
with Munster to win, they will have a full strength team and Connacht look like losing
Mack Hansen to an injury, that's a big loss for Connacht, he has done so well so far with club
and country.

The World Rugby annual awards were yesterday, Ireland's and Leinster's flanker Josh Van Der Flier
and New Zealand's Ruahei Demant took the Men's and Women's player of the year awards.

There were other awards celebrated:

Best coach of the year
Best Women's breakthrough player
Best Mens breakthrough player (which went to an Italian player, which is nice to see)

And other awards for Rugby 7's, best try, referee etc.

Yes congratulations to Australia, Men's and Women's sides! definitely a different level.
That was a massive score difference in the women's game 54 - 4 and in a final. Obviously
the game has developed way more in Australia than anywhere else.

Rugby Union

My handicap bet on Australia v Ireland yesterday came to pass, Ireland won with just
3 points in a lack lustre game. Johnny Sexton, Ireland's #10 and chief playmaker
picked up a calf injury during warmup, his absence definitely made a difference.
The game was riddled with errors.

The stand out result from the weekend is the win by Georgia over Wales, This
was their first time beating a "Tier 1" team.

Australia's dominance in the Rugby League World Cup was never in doubt in-spite the heavy barrage by the media with Samoa competing in the semi finals, then their elevation to the finals.

Both the Australian Women's then their male counterparts out scored their opponents to win clear with comfortable leads.

OTOH, France's wheel-chair competitors gave their English counterparts a run or their money in a close scoring game.

Autumn Internationals

A lot of games on today, I have one bet on - Australia +13.5 against Ireland. I think and
hope this is a safe one, Australia have lost their last two games by only 1 point so they
will be really itching not to be going home with zero wins

BUT

Ireland are playing a full strength squad!

The first game is at half time now:
Italy 13 - 18 South Africa
Scotland v Argentina up shortly, this will be a big test for Scotland
England v New Zealand - The All Blacks should win that.
Wales also play today against visiting Georga

I unfortunately haven't been able to see many live (or replay games) since the NRL grand final a few weeks back.

I do like International games for something that is very much played at a local team level - different countries will have vastly differing tactics of play that the opponents don't expect.  Usually, the winners will have struck down their opponents.

We don't get to see much Rugby live normally and were surprised to see Amazon Prime
had the rights to show the Autumn Internationals, hopefully it has been a success
for them and will continue to add more.

They already have almost all the big Tennis tournaments so hopefully Rugby will grow for them.

Rugby League

World Cup tomorrow - Australia v Samoa

I don't think there is much point on backing Samoa, Australia are heavy favourites.
