I'm not too well up on the NRL, last year being my first year actively following Rugby
League in Australia

I did a bit of research looking to see how last years finalists performed over the
previous couple of years and it seems to be predominantly Melbourne Storm and
Sydney Roosters who have since 2017 been finalists Top 8 followed by
Cronulla Sharks, Parramatta Eels, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Penrith Panthers each
missing out on one season since 2017

After working out my wagers on the first week if the NRL between Nitrogensports and

Five things we learnt from Reds-Fijian Drua - Sat, 12/03/2022, 9:26 pm - Jim Tucker

Heart rates went up all over Suncorp Stadium tonight when the Fijian Drua nearly pulled off a massive upset over the Queensland Reds.

The Reds squeaked out of it 33-28 when Queensland’s own Fijian hero Seru Uru scored a late try and stole a Drua lineout on full-time when the islanders were pressing.

It was a crazy thriller. The Fijians were down 28-9 before scoring three quick tries to lock the scores at 28-all.

Rugby League Australia.

After one week of game play, our top eight are (in no particular order) Panthers, Knights, Dragons, Storm, Broncos, Raiders, Eels and Bull Dogs.

My wagers during the next couple of weeks are going to be for these teams, however, the Titans kept up with the Eels for the entire 80 minutes in their 32 - 28 loss, so I don't discount the Titans while the Cowboys managed to keep the Bull Dogs pointless loosing 6 - 4 after 80 minutes.  Any one of those three, Titans, Cowboys or Bull Dogs can move into that eighth spot over the next few weeks.  It'll be interesting to see whether or not the Broncos can continue winning.

Going forward, my top six to watch are Panthers, Knights, Dragons, Storm, Raiders and Eels. with the next four being Bull Dogs, Broncos, Titans and Cowboys.

Bottom rung are Sharks, Rabbiohs, West's' Tigers, Warriors, Roosters and Sea Eagles (who are going to have to reverse their poor showing in their first game of the season).

Re: The Parramatta Eels, well we did right in betting them, I woke up to the scoreline
Eels 32 - 28 Titans = nice one!

I was following the Wests Tigers v Storm live score yesterday while out and
about and I was worried about our bets at the break, I think it was 11-4 at half time.

I have seen a few reports about that "Cannonball tackle" to one of the West Tigers players,
obviously its an illegal tackle? it doesnt look safe to me.

What a game between England and Ireland, the final score kind of flatters Ireland
a bit. England lost #5 Charlie Ewels with a red card in the first few minutes resulting
in a penalty kick followed by a quick try and missed conversion so Ireland up 0-8
in the first 6/7 minutes or so.

There was a lot of handling errors which resulted in a good few scrums, the winger
Jack Knowles had to fill the void in the second row of the English scrum and boy did that
scrum function well, England got a lot off the scrum, they were able to bring the score to
9-15 at half time.

Ireland didnt perform as well as expected with the extra man and England were running
on full energy to counter being down a man and bring the scoreboard to 15 - 15 in the second half.

.....until the 65th / 70th minute where Ireland were awarded a penalty and went ahead
15 - 18 and brought on some replacenents and scored another try and conversion.

::::::::::::...….....

Scotland didnt have it all their own way in Italy but at the end were eating Haggis Pizza!!!

They would be dissapointed with the scoreboard but Italy I'm would take big positives
from their performance.

The weekend RU bets gives me 3 wins, I'll update the post with the wagers later.

Parramatta Eels v Gold Coast Titans - Parramatta Eels   Money Line: 1.31   Bet amount: 0.06mBTC   Possible Payout: 0.08mBTC

I've got six wagers placed for the opening round of the 2022 NRL season:

Wests Tigers - Melbourne Storm      Melbourne Storm      Money Line   1.21   Bet amount:0.06 mBTC   Possible Payout:0.07 mBTC
New Zealand Warriors - St George/Illawarra Dragons   New Zealand Warriors   Money Line   1.88   Bet amount:0.06 mBTC   Possible Payout:0.11 mBTC

I'm also expecting the Canberra Raiders to do better this year as their team has now been together for a while and does not appear to be allowing external distractions to hamper their preparations.

I must have been half asleep when I put those wagers on.  If the Storm crashes over the Wests' Tigers, then I'll be three from six in the first round of betting (and not quite broke even).

Not sure how I missed these two:

North Queensland Cowboys - Canterbury Bulldogs Money Line North Queensland Cowboys @ 1.70 Taken Amount: 0.06 mBTC Possible Payout: 0.10 mBTC   -  (Starts in about eight and a half hours times)

(with the money being bet on the Cowboys earlier people are expecting great things from them, but I'll go for the Eels this round.

I was late home yesterday and didnt catch the first half of Wales v France and
the second half was not a great spectacle, 1 score early in play and the remaining
33 minutes resulted in A LOT of broken play and handling errors. Wales came
close a few times to scoring over the line with one opportunity being
held up, in fairness the French defense was good, maybe a bit lucky at times that
Wales attacking didnt fire 100%.

France certainly didnt have it their own way and seemed to me to try a desperation
drop goal attempt inside the last 10 minutes which went wide.

That's disappointing for every backing the Rabbitohs.

I had a feeling that might happen - all three Queensland teams seem to have spent the off season doing some soul searching.  I'm not saying they wil make the finals, (not yet) but it might be worth rethinking who they face over the next couple of weeks (then again they came out strong last season then tanked, so who knows?)

I've got a parlay on England, Scotland and Wales for this round paying over 9:1 (Nitrogen's in maintenance at the moment).

I would have been very surprised had the Panthers NOT won against the Sea Eagles last night.  The highlights looked like it was very one sided with Sea Eagles' players just strolling behind the Panther's players not even trying to make a play for the ball.

Re: England v Ireland - its going to be close for sure. Ireland travel to
Twickenham which is always a difficult place to play for visitors. England
have a very fast off the line game play and will look to disrupt Irelands
set pieces but Ireland it is reconed has more attacking power and options.

I'm going for France, Ireland and Scotland but not on parlay.

New Zealand Rugby has apologised for its International Women's Day tweet made from the All Blacks men's team account, which portrayed an archaic view of women and left the world-champion women's team out entirely.

The post read, "Forever grateful to all the women in our lives that allow us to play the game we love. Partners, mothers, daughters, doctors, physios, referees, administrators and fans. Appreciate you every day."

This was accompanied with images of male players – including Sevu Reece who pleaded guilty to assaulting his female partner in 2018 – with female family members and loved ones, seen to be supporting them from the sidelines.

Nice one Timelord, thanks for that intro!

At this stage its going to be difficult to bet against last seasons top teams
who were the previous seasons top teams also according to the 2020 ladder.

No worries!

The remaining couple of games only have point spread options for placing wagers - at this early stage of the season I'm not prepared to speculate how teams will go (and besides, a team could win, but fall short of the spread so you loose when they win!)

At the start of the 2022 season, the Storm, Panthers, Roosters and Sea Eagles round out the top four for betting odds for the season on a local betting platform with the Rabbitohs, Eels, Sharks and Titans filling the remaining top eight spots.  As I mentioned a few weeks ago, the three Queensland teams (NQ Cowboys, Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans) are looking to rebuild after last years poor showing.  Of the three I would have expected more money being poured into the Broncos, but the punters are expecting big things from the Titans.

Yesterdays set of games in the URC saw what looks to mismatched teams with
big scores for one side and very few scores for the other, a big imbalance. The big
surprise for me was firstly the win over Glasgow by Scarlets and second the
final score, well done to them

The top 6 spots in the URC will qualify those teams into next years Champions Cup

And another break this weekend with the Six Nations.
